An analytical approach for the free vibration behavior of a sandwich cylindrical shell with a functionally graded (FG) core is presented. It is considered that the FG distribution is in the direction of thickness. The material properties are temperature-dependent. The sandwich cylindrical shell with a FG core is considered with two cases. In the first model, i.e., Ceramic-FGM-Metal (CFM), the interior layer of the cylindrical shell is rich metal while the exterior layer is rich ceramic and the FG material is located between two layers and for the second model i.e., Metal-FGM-Ceramic (MFC), the material distribution is in reverse order. This study develops Carrera's Unified Formulation (CUF) to analyze sandwich cylindrical shell with an FG core for the first time. Considering the Principle of Virtual Displacements (PVDs) according to the CUF, the dependent boundary conditions and governing equations are obtained. The coupled governing equations are derived using Galerkin's method. In order to validate the present results, comparisons are made with the available solutions in the previous researches. The effects of different geometrical and material parameters on the free vibration behavior of a sandwich cylindrical shell with an FG core are examined.
This paper presents a thermoelastic analysis of variable thickness plates made of functionally graded materials (FGM) subjected to mechanical and thermal loads. The thermal load is applied to the plate as a temperature difference between the top and bottom surfaces. Temperature distribution in the plate is obtained using the steady-state heat equation. Except for Poisson's ratio, all mechanical properties of the plate are assumed to vary linearly along the thickness direction based on the volume fractions of ceramic and metal. The plate is resting on an elastic foundation modeled based on the Winkler foundation model. The governing equations are derived based on the third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT) and are solved numerically for various boundary conditions using the differential quadrature method (DQM). The effects of various parameters on the stress distribution and deflection of the plate are investigated such as the value of thermal and mechanical loads, volume fractions of ceramic and metal, and the stiffness coefficients of the foundation.
The present investigation is concerned with the effect of two temperatures on functionally graded (FG) nanobeams subjected to sinusoidal pulse heating sources. Material properties of the nanobeam are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a novel exponential distribution law in terms of the volume fractions of the metal and ceramic constituents. The upper surface of the FG nanobeam is fully ceramic whereas the lower surface is fully metal. The generalized two-temperature nonlocal theory of thermoelasticity in the context of Lord and Shulman's (LS) model is used to solve this problem. The governing equations are solved in the Laplace transformation domain. The inversion of the Laplace transformation is computed numerically using a method based on Fourier series expansion technique. Some comparisons have been shown to estimate the effects of the nonlocal parameter, the temperature discrepancy and the pulse width of the sinusoidal pulse. Additional results across the thickness of the nanobeam are presented graphically.

Nowadays, composite plates are widely used as high-strength structures to fabricate a dynamic loading-resistant armours. In this study, the shock load is applied by an explosion of spherical TNT charge at a specified distance from the circular composite plate. The composite plate contains a two-layer ceramic-metal armour and a poly-methyl methacrylate (PMMA) target layer. The dynamic behavior of the composite armour has been investigated by measuring the transferred effective stress and maximum deflection into the target layer. For this purpose, the simulation of the blast loading upon the composite structure was performed by using the load-blast enhanced (LBE) procedure in Ls-Dyna software. The effect of main process parameters such as the thickness of layers, and scaled distance has been examined on the specific stiffness of the structure using response surface method. After validating the results by comparing with the experimental results, the optimal values for these parameters along with the regression equations for transferred effective stress and displacement to the target have been obtained. Finally, the optimal values of input parameters have been specified to achieve minimum transferred stress and displacement, simultaneously with reducing the weight of the structure.
In this work, a simple four-variable integral plate theory is employed for examining the thermal buckling properties of functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich plates. The proposed kinematics considers integral terms which include the effect of transverse shear deformations. Material characteristics and thermal expansion coefficient of the ceramic-metal FGM sandwich plate faces are supposed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a "simple power-law" variation in terms of the "volume fractions" of the constituents. The central layer is always homogeneous and consists of an isotropic material. The thermal loads are supposed as uniform, linear, and nonlinear temperature rises within the thickness direction. The influences of geometric ratios, gradient index, loading type, and type sandwich plate on the buckling properties are examined and discussed in detail.
This paper investigates the vibration phenomenon of a nanobeam subjected to a time-dependent heat flux. Material properties of the nanobeam are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a novel exponential distribution law in terms of the volume fractions of the metal and ceramic constituents. The upper surface of the functionally graded (FG) nanobeam is pure ceramic whereas the lower surface is pure metal. A nonlocal generalized thermoelasticity theory with dual-phase-lag (DPL) model is used to solve this problem. The theories of coupled thermoelasticity, generalized thermoelasticity with one relaxation time, and without energy dissipation can extracted as limited and special cases of the present model. An analytical technique based on Laplace transform is used to calculate the variation of deflection and temperature. The inverse of Laplace transforms are computed numerically using Fourier expansion techniques. The effects of the phase-lags (PLs), nonlocal parameter and the angular frequency of oscillation of the heat flux on the lateral vibration, the temperature, and the axial displacement of the nanobeam are studied.

This manuscript presents impacts of gradation of material functions and axial load functions on critical buckling loads and mode shapes of functionally graded (FG) thin and thick beams by using higher order shear deformation theory, for the first time. Volume fractions of metal and ceramic materials are assumed to be distributed through a beam thickness by both sigmoid law and symmetric power functions. Ceramic-metal-ceramic (CMC) and metal-ceramic-metal (MCM) symmetric distributions are proposed relative to mid-plane of the beam structure. The axial compressive load is depicted by constant, linear, and parabolic continuous functions through the axial direction. The equilibrium governing equations are derived by using Hamilton's principles. Numerical differential quadrature method (DQM) is developed to discretize the spatial domain and covert the governing variable coefficients differential equations and boundary conditions to system of algebraic equations. Algebraic equations are formed as a generalized matrix eigenvalue problem, that will be solved to get eigenvalues (buckling loads) and eigenvectors (mode shapes). The proposed model is verified with respectable published work. Numerical results depict influences of gradation function, gradation parameter, axial load function, slenderness ratio and boundary conditions on critical buckling loads and mode-shapes of FG beam structure. It is found that gradation types have different effects on the critical buckling. The proposed model can be effective in analysis and design of structure beam element subject to distributed axial compressive load, such as, spacecraft, nuclear structure, and naval structure.
The vibration and stability analysis is investigated for composite cylindrical shells that composed of ceramic, FGM, and metal layers subjected to various loads. Material properties of FG layer are varied continuously in thickness direction according to a simple power distribution in terms of the ceramic and metal volume fractions. The modified Donnell type stability and compatibility equations are obtained. Applying Galerkin's method analytic solutions are obtained for the critical parameters. The detailed parametric studies are carried out to study the influences of thickness variations of the FG layer, radius-to-thickness ratio, lengths-to-radius ratio, material composition and material profile index on the critical parameters of three-layered cylindrical shells. Comparing results with those in the literature validates the present analysis.
In this study, the problem of discontinuous contact in two functionally graded (FG) layers resting on a rigid plane and loaded by two rigid blocks is solved by the finite element method (FEM). Separate analyzes are made for the cases where the top surfaces of the problem layers are metal, the bottom surfaces are ceramic and the top surfaces are ceramic and the bottom surfaces are metal. For the problem, it is accepted that all surfaces are frictionless. A two-dimensional FEM analysis of the problem is made by using a special macro added to the ANSYS package program The solution of this study, which has no analytical solution in the literature, is given with FEM. Analyzes are made by loading different Q and P loads on the blocks. The normal stress (σy) distributions at the interfaces of FG layers and between the substrate and the rigid plane interface are obtained. In addition, the starting and ending points of the separations between these surfaces are determined. The normal stresses (σx, σy) and shear stresses (τxy) at the point of separation are obtained along the depth. The results obtained are shown in graphics and tables. With this method, effective results are obtained in a very short time. In addition, analytically complex and long problems can be solved with this method.
In this paper, the nonlinear vibration behavior of the spiral stiffened multilayer functionally graded (SSMFG) cylindrical shells exposed to the thermal environment and a uniformly distributed harmonic loading using a semi-analytical method is investigated. The cylindrical shell is surrounded by a nonlinear viscoelastic foundation consisting of a two-parameter Winkler-Pasternak foundation augmented by a Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model with a nonlinear cubic stiffness. The distribution of temperature and material constitutive of the stiffeners are continuously changed through the thickness direction. The cylindrical shell has three layers consisting of metal, FGM, and ceramic. The interior layer of the cylindrical shell is rich in metal, while the exterior layer is rich in ceramic, and the FG material is located between two layers. The nonlinear vibration problem utilizing the smeared stiffeners technique, the von Kármán equations, and the Galerkin method has been solved. The multiple scales method is utilized to examine the nonlinear vibration behavior of SSMFG cylindrical shells. The considered resonant case is 1:3:9 internal resonance and subharmonic resonance of order 1/3. The influences of different material and geometrical parameters on the vibration behavior of SSMFG cylindrical shells are examined. The results show that the angles of stiffeners, temperature, and elastic foundation parameters have a strong effect on the vibration behaviors of the SSMFG cylindrical shells.
