In the development of the totally implantable artificial heart (TAH), the information of the preload condition is important to ind appropriate condition or the automatic control of the heart. Our TAH configuration consists of two artificial ventricles, and brushless DC motor within actuator. The pressure between ventricles could indicate the preload condition during the TAH operation. If we can measure accurately inspite of the noise induced from TAH and environmental condition. We suggested integrating a feedback loop to remove an unexpected DC drift. NPI 19-series Nova sensor was used which could measure pressure in gas and liquid. This method and sensor enabled us to develop the pressure transducer compact so (that) the systems can be implanted with TAH into patient. This system has been verified in vitro and in vivo test. This results showed that the output waveform of this system was stable irrespective of animal condition.
Resilient mounting is effective measures to reduce the structure-borne noise and radiated noise for many applications. The acoustic stiffness (frequency-dependent stiffness) of resilient mounts is an important parameter required in order to model vibration isolation with high accuracy. It is general to use measurement method for obtaining acoustic stiffness of complex resilient mounts under static preload. In this paper, the principles of measuring acoustic stiffness were described and the developed test apparatus was introduced. Also, the feasibility of the test apparatus is illustrated by measurement results of a resilient mount.
The valve performance has been evaluated from the theoretical equation based on design information such as packing thrust, spring preload and friction coefficient(${\mu}$). The accuracy of those data can be lower than that of vendor's initial design data. Especially, the friction coefficient can be degraded with time than the original condition and the valve performance calculated using the previous friction coefficient can not be available. Accordingly, this paper is describing a new performance evaluation method of valve based on diagnostic test data which are acquired from a site valve tested in static and dynamic conditions. Especially, this paper provides a new method using friction coefficient(${\mu}$) which is derived from the diagnostic test data acquired in the valve's design basis condition.
The goal of this study is to develop an effective control system for cardiac output regulation based upon the preload and afterload conditions without any transducers and compliance chambers in the moving actuator type total artificial heart. Motor current waveforms during the actuator movement are used as an input to the automatic control algorithm. While the current waveform analysis is performed, the stroke length and velocity of the actuator are gradually increased up to the maximum pump output level. If the diastolic filling rate of either right or left pump begins to exceed the venous return, atrial collapse will occur. Since the diastolic suction acts as a load to the motor, this critical condition can be detected by analyzing the motor current waveforms. Every time this detection criterion is met, the control algorithm decreases the stroke velocity and length of the actuator step by step just below the critical detection level. Then, they start to increase. In this way the maximum pump output under given venous return can be achieved. Additionally the control algorithm provides some degree of afterload sensitivity. If the aortic pressure is detected to exceed 120 mmHg, the stroke length and velocity decrease in the same way as the response to the preload. Left-right pump output balance is maintained by proper adjustment of the asymmetry of the stroke angle. In the mock circulatory test, this control system worked well and there was a considerable range of stroke volume difference with adjustment of the asymmetry value. Two ovine experiments were performed. It was confirmed that the required cardiac output regulation according to the venous return could be achieved with adequate detection of diastolic function, at least in the in vivo short-term survival cases[2-3 days . We conclude that this control algorithm is a promising method to regulate cardiac output in the moving actuator type total artificial heart.
Fastening systems have a significant role in the response of railway slab track systems. Although experimental tests indicate nonlinear behavior of fastening systems, they have been simulated as a linear spring-dashpot element in the available literature. In this paper, the influence of the nonlinear behavior of fastening systems on the slab track response was investigated. In this regard, a nonlinear model of vehicle/slab track interaction, including two commonly used fastening systems (i.e., RFFS and RWFS), was developed. The time history of excitation frequency of the fastening system was derived using the short time Fourier transform. The model was validated, using the results of a comprehensive field test carried out in this study. The frequency response of the track was studied to evaluate the effect of excitation frequency on the railway track response. The results obtained from the model were compared with those of the conventional linear model of vehicle/slab track interaction. The effects of vehicle speed, axle load, pad stiffness, fastening preload on the difference between the outputs obtained from the linear and nonlinear models were investigated through a parametric study. It was shown that the difference between the results obtained from linear and nonlinear models is up to 38 and 18 percent for RWFS and RFFS, respectively. Based on the outcomes obtained, a nonlinear to linear correction factor as a function of vehicle speed, vehicle axle load, pad stiffness and preload was derived. It was shown that consideration of the correction factor compensates the errors caused by the assumption of linear behavior for the fastening systems in the currently used vehicle track interaction models.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM. Screw loosening has been a common complication and still reported frequently. PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate abrasion of the implant fixture and TiN coated abutment screw after repeated delivery and removal with universal measuring microscope. MATERIAL AND METHODS. Implant systems used for this study were Osstem and 3i. Seven pairs of implant fixtures, abutments and abutment screws for each system were selected and all the fixtures were perpendicularly mounted in liquid unsaturated poly-esther with dental surveyor. After 20 times of repeated closing and opening test, the evaluation for the change of inner surface of implant and TiN-coated abutment screw, and weight loss were measured. Mann-Whitney test with SPSS statistical software for Window was applied to analyze the measurement of weight loss. RESULTS. TiN-coated abutment screws of Osstem and 3i showed lesser loss of weight than non-coated those of Osstem and 3i (P < .05, Mann-Whitney test). CONCLUSION. Conclusively, TiN coating of abutment screw showed better resistance to abrasion than titanium abutment screw. It was concluded that TiN coating of abutment screw would reduce the loss of preload with good abrasion resistance and low coefficient of friction, and help to maintain screw joint stability.
A shadow mask inside the Braun tube of a TV is sustained by springs attached to the glass panel, its vibration cause the picture image to discolor, which is called the microphonic phenomenon. It is found that it results from resonance when the natural frequency of the shadow mask coincides with that of built-in speaker sound. This paper describes experimental and analytical investigations by using FEM on the vibration problem of the shadow mask assembly. The simulation scheme may be efficiently used to develop a new design for a large-screen flat TV.
Fatigue fracture of engine connecting-rod bolts is encountered frequently during the developement of high-speed engines. Only the engine dyno test is a currently reliable fatigue durability assessment method. It is because the available rig tests cannot mimic the engine running condition completely, and because the finite element analysis cannot provide realistic stresses near the bolt thread that is modeled as a cylinder. This paper introduces a methodology to assess the fatigue durability of the connecting-rod bolts using the finite element analysis. The methods to contruct the bolt model, to extract the critical bolt stresses for the fatigue analysis, and to obtain the bolt fatigue endurance limit experimentally are discussed. Reliability of the method is verified indirectly.
This paper show the designing, manufacturing and performance test procedure of a high speed, fixed ratio planetary roller type traction drive as a speed reducer. The arrangement and size design for sun roller, planetary rollers and ring roller are carried out and a proper pre-load mechanism are adopted. To improve transmitting power capacity and endurance limit, nitro-carburized bearing steel and a synthetic traction oil are used. The manufactured and assembled traction drive operated successfully under unloaded conditions. Further tests for various load and speed conditions are executing now to improve the performance of the traction drive.
Rubber Components have been playing important role for the isolation of noise and vibration of vehicle. This paper is presented the new method of dynamic modeling of rubber component for simulating the dynamic characteristics of it under the varing loading condition. Rubber dynamic model consists of the hyperelastic, viscoelastic and elasto-plastic characteristics of rubber. Dynamic proporties of rubber are calculated at each preload and frequency conditions, compared to test data, and evaluated the validity of rubber dynamic model. This technique is expected to understand and improve the characteristics of noise and vibration with relation to rubber components.
