The purpose of the study was to identify the characteristics of classroom inquiry features exhibited on a web-based discussion board, which is called the Message Board. Approximately 4,000 students from 80 schools with 60 on-line scientists were participated in the study. During the study, a total of 639 messages in the selected cluster and several patterns were identified and analyzed. Three main features of the classroom inquiry were analyzed in terms of: 1) learner gives priority to evidence in responding to questions; 2) learner formulates explanations from evidence; 3) learner communicates and justifies explanations. The results are as follow. First, once learners identified and understood the questions posed by the curriculum, they needed to collect evidence or information in responding to the questions. Depending on the question that students were given, types of evidence/data students needed to collect and how to collect the data could vary. Second, students' formulated descriptions, explanations, and predictions after summarizing evidence were observed on the Message Board. However, the extent to which students summarized evidence for descriptions, explanations, and predictions varied. In addition, students were able to make a better use of evidence over time when they formulate descriptions and explanations. Third, the Message Board was designed to allow the great amount of learner self-direction. Classroom teachers and on-line scientists played an important role in providing guidance in developing inquiry. At the same time, development of content understanding also contributed to inquiry development.

The contents of the study were as follows. First, to establish an assessment plan, 14 achievement standards were analyzed in the assessment area, and the elements of the questions were developed including the content elements of a total of 29 questions. Second, to develop the assessment tools, preliminary questions suited to the structure of essay questions were developed, and the method of presenting data and scoring criteria to be utilized in the questions was selected. Third, to prepare the answers and the scoring criteria tables, the answers to the sample questions for each score were prepared in form of a scoring criteria table, and the objectives of the assessment, the scoring items, and the scores for each item were reviewed. Fourth, the developed questions and answers were revised and supplemented by teachers of the professional learning community through preliminary and mutual review on the components of the questions, the embodiment of the assessment objectives, the implementation of the assessment intent, and the grading. This study can be used as a foundational study for the development of essay-type questions and scoring criteria in essay assessment in the field of education. Furthermore, the results of this study could help teachers enhance their learners' ability to apply knowledge in the future.
This presents the preliminary results from work in progress of a paired study of the acquisition of voiceless stops by Spanish speakers learning English, and American English speakers learning Spanish. For this study the hypothesis was that the American speakers would have no difficulty suppressing the aspiration in Spanish unaspirated stops; the Spanish speakers would have difficulty acquiring the aspiration necessary for English voiceless stops, according to Eckman's Markedness Differential Hypothesis. The null hypothesis was proved. All subjects were given the same set of disyllabic real words of English and Spanish in carrier phrases. The tokens analyzed in this report are limited to word-initial voiceless stops, followed by a low back vowel in stressed syllables. Tokens were randomized and then arranged in a list with the words appearing three separate times. Aspiration was measured from the burst to the onset of voicing(VOT). Both the first language (Ll) tokens and second language (L2) tokens were compared for each speaker and between the two groups of language speakers. Results indicate that the Spanish speakers, as a group, were able to reach the accepted target language VOT of English, but English speakers were not able to reach the accepted range for Spanish, in spite of statistically significant changes of p<.OOl by speakers in both groups of learners. A closer analysis of the speech samples revealed wide variability within the speech of native speakers of English. Not only is variability in English due to the wide range of VOT (120 msecs. for English labials, for example) but individual speakers showed different patterns. These results are revealing for the demands requied in experimental designs and the number of speakers and tokens requied for an adequate description of different languages. In addition, a simple report of means will not distinguish the speakers and the respective language learning situation; measurements must also include the RANGE of acceptability of VOT for phonetic segments. This has immediate consequences for the learning and teaching of foreign languages involving aspirated stops. In addition, the labelling of spoken language in speech technology is shown to be inadequate without a fuller mathematical description.
This paper presents a virtual laboratory system which can be creating efficiencies in the learning process. The proposed virtual laboratory system for electrical circuits provides interactive learning environment under which the multimedia capabilities of world-wide web can be enhanced. The virtual laboratory system is implemented to describe the on-campus laboratory, the learners can obtain similar experimental data through it. In the proposed virtual laboratory system, every activity occurred in the virtual laboratory will be recorded on database and printed it out on the preliminary report form. The database connectivity is made by PHP and the virtual laboratory environment is set up slightly differently for each learner The virtual laboratory system is composed of four important components : Principle classroom, Simulation classroom, Virtual experiment classroom and Management system. This study analyzed learners' satisfaction and in-depth interviews with teachers after operating a software practical curriculum as a real-time video class for fifth and sixth graders in elementary school. The correlation between learner's presence, class overall, interaction, and real-time video class satisfaction showed that the positive correlation between presence, class overall, interaction, and satisfaction with real-time video classes was somewhat high. There were some differences in the real-time video class participation environment and real-time video class satisfaction, but it was not found to be statistically significant. In the case of teachers, it was difficult to respond to problems occurring in each student's individual environment, interactions between students, and individual feedback problems for a sluggish student. To solve this problem, opinions such as preliminary guidance and verification of real-time video class connection environment, error support for sluggish students and individual class participation environment, and feedback on individual tasks using LMS were suggested.
Purpose: Due to the coronavirus infection-19 (COVID) pendemics, all educational institutions were required to provide full non-face-to-face real-time education, and fire officials were required to provide fire-fighting education by applying non-face-to-face education. In this difficult situation, the National Fire Service Academy tries to find the direction of the non-face-to-face real-time education and suggest ways to improve it through a survey of the status of non-face-to-face real-time education conducted by the NFSA to fire officials. Method: A survey was conducted on fire officials under the theme of "Consciousness Survey for Improving the Quality and Specialization of Non-face-to-face Real-Time Remote Education" and an in-depth analysis was conducted based on the results. Result & Conclusion: First, professors or educational operators shall actively utilize remote education programs suitable for educational characteristics by utilizing various programs. Second, a dedicated notebook for non-face-to-face training should be provided to provide an educational environment where all learners can participate in the training without difficulty. Third, in the case of education and training that requires the use of equipment due to the nature of fire officials' education and training, it is necessary to consider it as a non-face-to-face training place by arranging educational equipment at each fire station. Fourth, it is hard to expect a satisfactory educational effect to cope with practical education with theoretical education. Therefore, facilities and programs that enable non-face-to-face real-time hands-on training should be developed. It is worth considering the proper combination of face-to-face education while maintaining the social distance as much as possible until such non-face-to-face training is possible. Fifth, non-face-to-face education is considered to have high eye fatigue due to the light and electromagnetic waves of the computer screen, and as time goes by, the concentration level decreases. Therefore, it is necessary to form an education time to reduce the eye fatigue of learners and increase concentration through proper class and rest time. Finally, professors should operate a learner participation-oriented education that allows professors and learners to interact rather than one-sided knowledge transfer education. In addition, technical problems of non-face-to-face remote education should be thoroughly prepared through preliminary system checks to ensure that education is not disrupted.
This study was conducted to provide information useful in developing a nursing curriculum. The sample consisted of 158 nursing students in Hanyang University and 34 faculty members who has taught them in their college & the practical area. Data were collected by using a structured questionnaire, which consisted of general characteristics of the students & their self-concept, teacher's perception of student's professional roles. The results are summarized as follows; 1. General characteristics of the students When the students applied for the university, they decided what they would specialized in. Because the motive of application for their major was simply based on their high school records, they were admitted to their university without previous knowledge of their major. The reason why they wanted to tranfer to another course after the admission was the same as above. The level of satisfaction of their major was the highest in Freshman, but in other grades the higher the;, grades were, the more they satisfied with their major and they had a better prospects about their speciality. 2. Self-concept in profermance for their major Self-concept in horne aspects was more positive perception than in social aspects & self control aspects. It resulted from tile fact that all students were females and the nursing uniqueness was based on the spirit of humanity & service. The students who had graduated from the high school in rural area wanted to tranfer to another course and taken counsel their personal problems with their parents had higher self-concept in horne aspects. As their grades were higher, the self-concept in social aspects bacame higher. The students who were satisfied with their major and took counsel their personal problems with their parents had more positive self - concept in social aspects. Self-concept in self control aspects was lower than other aspects. The students who didn't take counsel their problems with their parents, were burdened with their educational expenses and their curriculum had more negative self-concept in self control aspects. Therefore the university should be concerned about student's welfare and provide detailed orientation about their curriculum. 3. Teacher's perception about learner's professional role The role model of democratic group leader, role models for learners facilitator in a students' reach for knowledge and teaching based on soundly researched theory showed more positive perception than other factors. Their mean values were over 4. 32. The professionalism of allnurshing area, reinforcement with reinforcement for learning, nursing as part of the meaningful context of the whole showed nagative perception. Their mean values were below 3. 00. Therefore the nurse as a teacher should try to promote the locus of nursing profession and participate in their research actively.
This study organize a self-directed learning in complex structures. And based on this, It was developed self-directed learning scale for university students. It was a analyzing literature and reviewing previous studies for developed scale. Therefore, Self-directed learning model was configured into motives, performance behaviors, and learning management behaviors. On the basis of this, the present study constructed 19 sub-factors and developed 114 scale items. First, a preliminary scale was developed and its reliability was assessed by administering the scale to 128 students attending A university. The result showed that the reliability of every sub-factor was good and, therefore, the scale was developed with no item removed. To verify the validity of the scale, this study evaluated reliability and construct validity by administering the scale to 674 students going to A university. The reliability and validity of all sub-factors were found to be good. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed to verify construct validity and the result revealed that the first model was not an appropriate model. For this reason, the first model was modified once by taking the model modification index into account and it was found that ${\chi}^2$ (563.254), CFI=.963, NFI=.951, RMSEA=.064. Thus, the model was verified as a valid model. The results of this study imply that it is possible to point out learners' weaknesses and strengths by measuring activities taking place in the learning process in detail.
This was to investigate how the slow learners who specially belonged to low-SES, or North Korean defectors showed their errors in mathematical learning. To conduct the study, two groups for each minority group participated in the study volunteerly during the Winter vacation, in 2011. Based on the preliminary interviews, a total of 15 units were given, focusing on building mathematical basic concepts. As results, they had some errors in common. They both were in lack of understanding of the terminologies and not able to apply the meanings of definitions and theorems to a problem. Because of uncertainty of basic knowledge of mathematics, they easily lost their focus and were apt to make a mistake. Also, they showed clear differences. North Korean defectors were not accustomed to using or understanding the meanings of Chines or English in Korean words in expressing, writing mathematical terminologies and reading data on the context. Technical errors, and misinterpreted errors were found. However, students from the low SES showed that they were familiar with mathematical words and terminologies, but their errors mostly belonged to carelessness because of the lack of mastering mathematical concepts.
