The purpose of this study was to explore and classify the types of portal sites' preferences among korean elderly in Korea by using the Q-methodology. 35 q-samples were adopted based on literature reviews and interviews with elderly and staff in charge of information education for the elderly. As results, types of portal sites' preferences among Korean elderly were categorized into four: 1) universality and popularity, 2) personal interests, 3) social relationship, and 4) convenience. This study also explored attributes of each type of perception and delivered implication to prepare and improve better portal sites for the elderly and finally help them use portal site more effectively and enhance their quality of life.

This study analyzed the perception types of women over the age of 60 in regards to attitude and the effect of wearing brassiere. In addition, it was also to provide the basic data demand for the development of a brassiere for elderly women. Q methodology was used for this study. Analyze the data using the QUANL pc program. Type 1 was the nipple cover non-preferred type. Type 1 thought brassiere has uplifting effect, but is uncomfortable and only worn when going out. Type 2 was a function-oriented preference type. They wore a brassiere for beauty and psychological satisfaction. The brassiere push-up the breast and enhanced volume. Type 3 was the pursuit of vibration reducing and beauty type. The brassiere reduced breast vibration and kept armpits comfortable. The brassiere was worn for beauty. In the future, the actual development of brassieres for elderly women should be investigated for wearing sensation and satisfaction.

Preferences on living arrangement and residence of the elderly depend on various changing factors as they get old. Among those factors, predictable and crucial factors are the condition of their health and spouse. Thus, this study is focused on living arrangement and the residential preference of the elderly according to their health and existence of a spouse. A sample of 500 elderly aged over 65 is analyzed by $x^2$ test, and multiple logistic regression. The results could be summarized as follows; First, 45.2% of the elderly who participated in this survey prefer 'living apart from their children but living close by'. And 19.8% of the elderly want to 'live with their children'. Second, the elderly with a spouse and the elderly who live apart from their children tend to prefer living independently. Third, the elderly with good health living in single-family houses and the elderly with high self-esteem tend to prefer the residential facilities for the elderly. Fourth, the elderly with health problems who have generous allowances and live in a city tend to prefer the residential facilities for the elderly. Fifth, factors such as gender, age, condition of health, allowances, living regions, type of house, self-esteem influence residential preferences of the elderly without a spouse. Older men with more allowances, in good health, living in row house and apartment, in a mid-size city tend to prefer living in the residential facilities for the elderly.

The purpose of this study aimed to evaluate the elderly women's preference to purchase, wear and launder underwear. After having one-to-one interviews with 567 elderly women who they were over 60 in their age in Incheon during the winter of 2000/2001, the differences of their preferences to practicability, economic/comfort, esthetic, symbolic, brand and service were analyzed by SPSS Win pack. When they bought their underwear, they were interested in its practicability most but not its esthetic, brand and service. The more learned and richer economically they were, the shorter sleeves and pants underwear thor had preferences to wear. Most of them wear underwear to keep warm during winter, but some of them wear habitually. They frequently boiled their underwear after washing in warm water with hands. From these tendency underwear for the elderly women should be specified both in bust circumference and in the length of sleeves or pants.
The objective of this paper is to propose rural housing planning guidelines by conducting a survey on the needs of the elderly people engaged in farming activities and looking into complaints about their houses targeting 120 people from 50s to 70s. The method employed was a survey with questionnaires. The survey results showed the needs of the elderly for the rural housing are different from those of general retired elderly people because they still engage in farming activities even if they grow old. The needs are as follows. First, the respondents show high preference for the foyer storage to store equipments and goods related to agriculture. Second, the respondents have needs for enough kitchen area accommodating their house work and rural life. Lastly, the respondents highly prefer well planned storehouses in the exterior. In addition, they also want the storehouses directly connected with the house because this plan can save their workforce. They recognize storehouses are the most poorly planned space in the rural house because of the unsatisfactory space area and interior space planning. These needs should be reflected on the planning of rural housing for the elderly engaged in farming activities.
This study was conducted as a survey to find out middle-aged persons's housing preferences for a future elderly housing and to grasp background characteristics of persons influencing the preferences and the effect of elderly's aging situations on the changes of their preferences. A sample of 300 middle-aged people was selected purposely from parents of university students living in Gwang-ju city. Questionnaires were administered to parents by students and analysed with SPSS Windows 10 program. Middle-aged persons's housing preferences were differed according to elderly's aging situations, in the case of healthy situation, they tended to prefer to stay present house without their children in irrespective to couple or single, whereas in the case of unhealthy situation, they tended to prefer to live with their children. and couples showed preferences for planned housing for the elderly and singles showed preferences for elderly housing facilities with care services. The most important characteristics of elderly housing among middle-aged people was a places where they can enjoy leisure and provide home-help services, located in the suburbs. Also middle-aged persons were likely to prefer to a green spaces such as garden, path for walking, and madang for the elderly housing. Needs for community care services (NCCS) were required above the average. Among the items of NCCS, a visiting medical examination was the most demanding, and a visiting nursing services, a emergency calling bell, and home repairs were sequently followed in the level of needs. The characteristics of the elderly housing which preferred to and needs for community care services were influenced by middle-aged persons's age, gender, subjective evaluation of economic abilities, tenure status, the cost of living, and the size of housing. This findings suggests that it must to be considered to develop various types of the elderly housing depending on socioeconomic status.
The daily food intake and its related factors of the elderly(aged over 60) living in Incheon were compared. Self administered questionnaires were collected from 418 elderly. Statistical data analysis was completed using a SPSS v. 10.0 program. The results are summarized as follows: About 70% of elderly took grains and starch foods relatively high. The daily intakes of them was significantly influenced by ages of elderly, self-perceived health status, degree of drinking, meal regularity and nutritional balance of meals. More than 80% of elderly responded to take the food group of meat, fish and eggs poorly. Among various factors, the residence type and snack intake frequency influenced the daily intake of those foods statistically. A half of elderly took the vegetables and fruits everyday more than average. The daily consumption of vegetables and fruits was significantly influenced by sex, ages, exercise, snack intake frequency and preference of spices. Most elderly consumed fewer servings of milk and dairy products. About 60% of them did not take milk and dairy products daily. The daily contribution of those foods was significantly influenced by residence and exercise. 45.5% of elderly took oils and sugars more than average everyday which was influenced significantly by residence, exercise, snack intake frequency and meal regularity. In conclusion, the important influencing factors on the daily food intakes of elderly might be related to ages, residence, family, smoking, drinking, exercise, snack intake frequency and meal regularity. Therefore, a situation-oriented and practically organized nutrition education and ingestion support programs which consider the elderlies' socioeconomic status may help to improve the daily food intake of elderly in Incheon area.

The purpose of this study is to compare food habits of four institution(public boarding home, public mursing home, private boarding home, meal service in welfare center) in Pusan, Korea. Data were collected from 119 of were more than 65 years in the above institutions. Chi-square test was the main data analysis method. More than a quarter of the respondents(27%) showed fairly good level of activity, while a half of them(52.9%) answered the middle level. More than 80 percent of the respondents reported that their food attitude was "Good". There were more elderly women than elderly men among the four institutions. Although the four institutions have served snacks on the regular basis, they did not provide the residents with nutritious food. Most of the residents want to have snacks between meals, but they did not perfer candy. All the subjects didn't point out any particular problem of institution. They were accustomed with their old food served by their institution. As food perferences, almost all of the respondents preferred cooked rice and cooked rice with cereals. Only the residents of private boaring home liked cooked rice with red bean. In case of soup, all of residents liked any kind of soup. The most preferred most menu was beef. But only residents of private boarding home did not like pork. All residents like any all kind of kimchi except kimchi made by radish. In preference of cooking method of a side dish, seasoned food and vegetables were the most favorable menu by the respondents. Compared to the private home, the institutions give residents effective plan to prepare meals. Even though this study tried to find differences in attitudes of dietary life among the institutions, it could not find any meaningful difference among them. Korean elders in the institutions seem to have no proper that they do not have any proper sense of evaluating their dietary life.
To promote health status, strategies and interventions to improve nutrition should be based on the proper diagnosis of the subject's eating patterns. The elderly usually have traditional food habits and preferences, and it is very difficult to change them. This study was designed to identify dietary behavior and food preference of the elderly, in order to provide baseline data for the Elderly Nutrition Intervention Program for the Public Health Center. A survey questionnaire was made for use by trained interviewers to query 151elderly people from 5 community elderly centers located in Suwon, Korea. The majority of them ate regularly and partook of all available side dishes. Their major dietary problems were frequent consumptions of salty foods, and eating too quickly. They consumed grains and vegetables regularly, but seldomly ate dairy products, fruits, meat and food prepared with oil. They also tended to eschew ready made processed food, high cholesterol food, and fast food. Also they did not dine out as much as younger people. Desirable eating habit score were not significantly influenced by socioeconomic variables and nutrition-related characteristics. These included nutrition knowledge, Nutritional Risk Index(NRI) and a score of health concerns. However, meal balance scores were significantly higher in the younger group(p<.05), the higher household income group(p<.05). According to stepwise multiple regression analysis, NRI was the most important determinant of a desirable eating habit score for the male elderly, whereas the score of health concerns was mo9st important for female elderly subjects. The greatest predictor of the meal f balance score was nutrition knowledge. The elderly liked sweet tasting food, grains, rice, stews and Korean style soups. They disliked sour food, dairy products, processed food, and bread. The results indicate that the Elderly Nutrition Education Program should focus on increasing consumption of dairy products, fruits and food with oil, prepared by traditional Korean cooking methods. It also suggests that the program planning should consider the socioeconomic status of the elderly, such as income and education level, as well as concern for health.
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the peak torques of the knee and ankle joint and local stability of the lower extremity's joints, and muscle activation patterns of the lower extremity's muscles between fallers and non-fallers in the elderly women during walking. Method: Four elderly women (age: $74.5{\pm}5.2yrs.$; height: $152.1{\pm}5.6cm$; mass: $55.3{\pm}5.4kg$; preference walking speed: $1.19{\pm}0.06m/s$) who experienced falls within six months since experiment had been conducted (falls group) and thirty-six subjects ($74.2{\pm}3.09yrs.$; height: $153.6{\pm}4.9cm$; mass: $56.7{\pm}6.4kg$; preference walking speed: $1.24{\pm}0.10m/s$) who had no experience in falls (non-falls group) within this periods participated in this study. They were measured torque peaks of the knee and ankle joint using a Human Norm and while they were walking on a treadmill at their natural pace, kinematic variables and EMG signals were collected with using a 3-D motion capture system and a wireless EMG system, respectively. Lyapunov Exponent (LyE) was determined to observe the dynamic local stability of the lower extremity's joints, and muscles activation and their co-contraction index were also analysed from EMG signals. Hypotheses between falls and non-falls group were tested using paired t-test and Mann-Whitey. Level of significance was set at p<.05. Results: Local dynamic stability in the adduction-abduction movement of the knee joint was significantly lower in falling group than non-falling group (p<.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, muscles which act on the abduction-adduction movement of the knee joint need to be strengthened to prevent from potential falls during walking. However, a small number of samples for fallers make it difficult to generalize the results of this study.
