  • This study was conducted for the optimization of ingredients in salad dressing using Hwangdo peach (Prunus persica L. Batsch). The experiment was designed according to the D-optimal design of mixture design, which included 14 experimental points with 4 replicates for three independent variables (olive oil 40~65%, peach puree 27~50%, vinegar 8~20%). The linear regression models for pH, viscosity and color value and the quadratic regression models for emulsion stability, all sensory evaluation of the products were proven to be valid by the F-test for the overall significance of the regression model at a 5% level. Viscosity and pH of the products increased as olive oil content. Color value, viscosity and pH of the products increased as peach puree content. pH, viscosity, redness, and yellowness of the products decreased as vinegar content. Sensory evaluation result of the products showed that general preference for the products were increasingly affected by the increases in contents then decreased as they exceeded the optimum levels. In consequence, according to result from the first stage of the experiment, the optimum ingredients ratios of the raw materials were set in olive oil 52.43%, peach puree 35.07%, and vinegar 13.91% for ingredients of apricot dressing. These results provided the possibility that peach can be applied to the preparation of a dressing, and thereby present baseline data for the development of new dressings. This is also presumed to meet demands of customers who are always in pursuit of new products.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) is an infrastructure of physical objects that could be connected to the Internet. Most of these are low performance to ensure a reasonable cost for the smart physical objects. Thus, these devices usually use a lightweight messaging protocol: message queue telemetry transport with SSL/TLS. Cipher suites in device are fixed by default and selected based on preference in SSL/TLS. However, the selected cipher suite provides high security level more than expected. This limitation causes energy waste and overhead of devices. In order to counter this problem, we proposed fuzzy logic based cipher suite decision method to improve energy efficiency. Our proposed method saved 36.03% energy.

  • This study aims to analyze the design of current nurse uniforms, investigate the state of nurse uniforms, and uniform design preferences in order to ultimately develop functional nurse uniform, which satisfy their needs. First, observing photos of nurses' campaign on wearing a badge showed that opening of top uniform almost always incorporated buttons, and sleeves were mostly set-in half sleeves while collars tended to be mandarin collars. The colors were mostly white for both top and bottom, while the top showed a bit more variety in colors. White tops often incorporated hospital logos on them. Second, in terms of the nurse uniform distribution, each nurse is given one top and one bottom per year. In addition, either a cardigan or a jacket on top of the regular summer uniform constitutes the winter uniform, whereas the availability of cardigans differed by hospitals. Third, the main source of contamination of uniforms was blood, and the level of satisfaction was all low in terms of the design, function, and material of the uniform, calling for the enhancement and development of new uniforms. Design preferences were two-piece with pants, color preferences were blue and pink, and pattern preferences were hospital logo, stripes, and check patterns in the listed order of preference. Complaints were usually made on the contamination of front pocket of the top, lack of sufficient pockets for storage, and tightness of the sleeves. Some preferences on finishing were the princess seams, mandarin collar, set-in half sleeves, and button closing on top. The preferred belt was a mixed form of straight-lined belt and rubber belt, and straight lined hem and spandex blended fabrics were favored for the clothing.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the effects of low-dose intravenous N-acetylcysteine on the prevention of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) in patients undergoing computed tomography (CT). Methods: All patients presenting to our emergency department and undergoing CT with intravenous contrast media between August 2014 and April 2016 were retrospectively enrolled. We included hospitalized patients with renal dysfunction [estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) between 30 and $89mL/min/1.73m^2$]. A 600-mg injection of N-acetylcysteine was given to patients once before and once immediately after CT, depending on the preference of physician. The primary outcome was CIN defined as an increase in creatinine level of ${\geq}25%$ or ${\geq}0.5mg/dL$ from the baseline within 48 to 72 hours after CT. A trained person blindly reviewed all medical records. Results: Of the 1903 admitted patients, CIN occurred in 9.8% of patients who received 1200 mg intravenous N-acetylcysteine (24/244) and 6.8% of patients who did not (113/1659, p=0.090). In a multivariable regression analysis, N-acetylcystine was not relevant to the prevention of CIN (odds ratio=1.42 [95% CI, 0.90-2.26]). Even in the stratified analysis using the propensity score matching, N-acetylcysteine was irrelevant (GFR 30-59: odds ratio=1.06 [95% CI, 0.43-2.60]; GFR 60-89: odds ratio=1.76 [95% CI, 0.75-4.14]). After adjustment, crystalloids were significantly associated with the reduction in CIN compared with dextrose water (odds ratio=0.60 [95% CI, 0.37-0.97]). Conclusion: No effect was found when low-dose intravenous N-acetylcysteine was used to prevent CIN. However, there seems to be an association between crystalloids and reduction in CIN.

  • The effect of the instructional approach that asked students to check their problem-solving processes through a paired think-aloud problem solving after presenting molecular-level pictures and a four stage-problem solving strategy was investigated. Four high school classes (N = 191) were randomly assigned to St group (using Strategy individually), SL group (Solver Listener), St-SL group (using Strategy-Solver Listener), and control group. Although the test scores of the St-SL group on strategy performing ability were significantly higher than those of the control group, there was not significant difference for the scores in the multiple-choice algorithmic problems. Regarding the subcategories of strategy performing ability test, students' ability of understanding given of problems and deriving the proper physical quantity was improved, but their ability of setting up subgoals and reviewing their solving process was very low. The preference to the strategy of the St-SL group was more positive than that of the St group.

  • This study investigates coffee consumers' perceptions of coffee shops, using the Importance-Performance Analysis and the Fishbein Attitude Model approach. A survey was carried out in coffee shops(2010, 12/6~12/20), and 175 out of 200 copies of questionnaire were returned from the coffee shops. After excluding 27 unusable cases which had an unacceptable level of missing data, 148 cases were used for analysis. The IPA showed that an attractive facade, toilet cleanliness, coffee freshness, coffee taste were included in the area of maintaining good results while coffee price was in the area of concentrating efforts, which coffee shop managers should improve. Also, the analysis using the Fishbein attitude model showed that coffee taste, an attractive facade, toilet cleanliness, and coffee freshness were in order of importance, and Starbucks, Angelinus, Caffebene, and Pascucci are in order of brand preference. Although this study has some limitations(such as self-report, common method bias), it shows significant implications to coffee shop managers.

  • Recently, we have reported that animals with telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) overexpression exhibit reduced social interaction, decreased preference for novel social interaction and poor nest-building behaviors-symptoms that mirror those observed in human autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Overexpression of TERT also alters the excitatory/inhibitory (E/I) ratio in the medial prefrontal cortex. However, the effects of TERT overexpression on hippocampal-dependent learning and synaptic efficacy have not been investigated. In the present study, we employed electrophysiological approaches in combination with behavioral analysis to examine hippocampal function of TERT transgenic (TERT-tg) mice and FVB controls. We found that TERT overexpression results in enhanced hippocampal excitation with no changes in inhibition and significantly impairs long-term synaptic plasticity. Interestingly, the expression levels of phosphorylated CREB and phosphorylated $CaMKII{\alpha}$ were significantly decreased while the expression level of $CaMKII{\alpha}$ was slightly increased in the hippocampus of TERT-overexpressing mice. Our observations highlight the importance of TERT in normal synaptic function and behavior and provide additional information on a novel animal model of ASD associated with TERT overexpression.
