One of the most important design concept for reinforced concrete structures is to achieve a ductile failure mode, and also moment redistribution for economic design is possible in case that adequate ductility is provided. Flexural ductility index is, therefore, used as a reference for possibility of moment redistribution as well as for prediction of flexural behavior of designed R.C. structures. Ductility index equations, however, provide approximate values due to the linear concrete compressive stress assumption at the tension steel yielding state. Theoretically more exact ductility index is calculated by a numerical analysis with the realistic stress-strain curves for concrete and steel to be compared with the result from tire ductility index equations. Variation of ductility index for the selected variables and the reasonable maximum tension steel ratio for doubly reinforced section are investigated. A moment-curvature curve model is also proposed for future research on moment redistribution.
In this research, damage behavior of singly oriented ply (SOP) fiber metal laminate (FML) subjected to concentrated load was studied. The static indentation tests were conducted to study fiber orientation effect on damage behavior of FML. During the static indentation tests, acoustic emission technique (AE) was adopted to study damage characteristics of FML. AE signals were obtained by using AE sensor with 150kHz resonance frequency and the signals were compared with indentation curves of FML. The damage process of SOP FML was divided by three parts, i.e., crack initiation, crack propagation, and penetration. The AE characteristics during crack initiation show that the micro crack is initiated at lower ply of the plate, then propagate along the thickness of the plate with creating tiber debonding. The crack grow along the fiber direction with occurring 60∼80dB AE signal. During the penetration, the fiber breakage was observed. As fiber orientation increases, talc fiber breakage occurs more frequently. The AE signal behaviors support these results. Cumulative AE counts could well predict crack initiation and crack propagation and AE amplitude were useful for the prediction of damage failure mode.

Knowing the mean free paths (MFPs) of thermal phonons is an essential step in performing heat transfer analysis for nanomaterials, and in determining the optimum design for tailoring the heat transfer characteristics of nanomaterials. In this study, we present a method that can be used to calculate accurately the phonon MFP spectra of nanostructures based on simple phonon kinetic theory. Here, the kinetic theory may be employed by extracting only the diffusive-transport part of the phonon spectrum (i.e., the MFPs are less than a thermal length). By considering phonon dispersion and polarization effects, the phonon MFP distributions of silicon at room temperature are calculated from phonon transport properties and the spectral MFP. Our results are validated by comparison with those of the first principle and MFP spectroscopy data.

An engineering goal in vibration and noise professionals is to develope quiet machines at the preliminary design stage, and various numerical techniques such as FEM, SEA or BEM are one of the schemes toward the goal. In this paper, the research has been focused on the sensitivity effect of mesh sizes for FEM application so that the optimum size of the mesh that leads to engineering solution within acceptable computing time could be generated. In order to evaluate the mesh size effect, three important parameters have been examined : natural frequencies, number of modes and driving point mobility. First, several lower modes including the fundamental frequency of a 2-D plate structure have been calculated as mesh size changes. Since theoretical values of natural frequencies for a simple structure are known, the deviation between the numerical and theoretical values is obtained as a function of mesh size. The result shows that the error is no longer decreased if the mesh size becomes a quarter wavelength or smaller than that. Second, the mesh size effect is also investigated for the number of modes. For the frequency band up to 1.4 kHz, the structure should have 38 modes in total. As the mesh size reaches to the quarter wavelength, the total count in modes approaches to the same values. Third, a mobility function at the driving point is compared between SEA and FEM result. In SEA application, the mobility function is determined by the modal density and the mass of the structure. It is independent of excitation frequencies. When the mobility function is calculated from a wavelength to one-tenth of it, the mobility becomes constant if the mesh becomes a quarter wavelength or smaller. We can conclude that dynamic parameters, such as eigenvalues, mode count, and mobility function, can be correctly estimated, while saving the computing burden, if a quarter wavelength (.lambda./4) mesh is used. Therefore, (.lambda./4) mesh is recommended in structural vibration analysis.

This paper presents the pull-out failure mode on Headed Bars and prediction of tensile capacity, as governed by concrete cone failure. 17 different plate types, three different concrete strengths and three different welding types of specimens were simulated. Test variables are the reinforcing bar diameters connected to headed plate (e.g., 16mm, 19mm and 22mm), the head plate shapes (e.g., circular, square, rectangular), the dimensions of head plates (e.g., area and thickness), the types of welding scheme for connection of reinforcing bars and head plates (e.g., general welding and friction welding). Headed Bars were manufactured in different areas, which shape and thickness are based on ASTM 970-98. Calculation of Embedment length in concrete is based on CSA 23.3-94, and static tensile load was applied. Pullout capacities tested were compared to the values determined using current design methods such as ACI-349 and CCD method. If compare experiment results and existings, Headed bar expressed high strength and bigger breakdown radious than standard by wide plate area and anomaly reinforcing rod unlike anchor.
The compression of video data is intended for real-time transmission of band-limited channels. Compressed video bit-streams are very sensitive to transmission error. If we lose packets or receive them with errors during transmission, not only the current frame will be corrupted, but also the error will propagate to succeeding frames due to the spatio-temporal predictive coding structure of sequences. Error detection and concealment is a good approach to reduce the bad influence on the reconstructed visual quality. To increase concealment efficiency, we need to get some more accurate error detection algorithm. In this paper, We hide specific data into the motion vector difference of each macro-block, which is obtained from the procedure of inter prediction mode in H.264/AVC. Then, the location of errors can be detected easily by checking transmitted specific data in decoder. We verified that the proposed algorithm generates good performances in PSNR and subjective visual quality through the computer simulation by H.324M mobile simulation tool.
The High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard provides superior coding efficiency by utilizing highly flexible block structure and more diverse coding modes. However, rate-distortion optimization (RDO) process for the decision of optimal block size and prediction mode requires excessive computational complexity. To alleviate the computation load, this paper proposes a new moment-based fast CU size decision algorithm for intra coding in HEVC. In the proposed method, moment values are computed in each CU block to estimate the texture complexity of the block from which the decision on an additional CU splitting procedure is performed. Unlike conventional methods which are mostly variance-based approaches, the proposed method incorporates the third-order moments of the CU block in the design of the fast CU size decision algorithm, which enables an elaborate classification of CU types and thus improves the RD-performance of the fast algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed method saves 32% encoding time with 1.1% increase of BD-rate compared to HM-10.0, and 4.2% decrease of BD-rate compared to the conventional variance-based fast algorithm.

Several theoretical and analytical formulations for the prediction of shear strength in reinforced concrete (RC) beam-to-column joints have been recently developed. Some of these predictive models are included in the most recent seismic codes and currently used in practical design. On the other hand, the influence of the stiffness and strength degradations in RC joints on the seismic performance of RC framed buildings has been only marginally studied, and it is generally neglected in practice-oriented seismic analysis. To investigate such influence, this paper proposes a numerical description for representing the cyclic response of RC exterior joints. This is then used in nonlinear numerical simulations of RC frames subjected to earthquake loading. According to the proposed strategy, RC joints are modelled using nonlinear rotational spring elements with strength and stiffness degradations and limited ductility under cyclic loading. The proposed joint model has been firstly calibrated against the results from experimental tests on 12 RC exterior joints. Subsequently, nonlinear static and dynamic analyses have been carried out on two-, three- and four-storey RC frames, which represent realistic existing structures designed according to old standards. The numerical results confirm that the global seismic response of the analysed RC frames is strongly affected by the hysteretic damage in the beam-to-column joints, which determines the failure mode of the frames. This highlights that neglecting the effects of joints damage may potentially lead to non-conservative seismic assessment of existing RC framed structures.
The main aim of this research was to investigate the shear strength of non-prismatic steel fiber reinforced concrete beams under monotonic loading considering different parameters. Experimental program included tests on fifteen non-prismatic reinforced concrete beams divided into three groups. For the first and the second groups, different parameters were taken into consideration which are: steel fibers content, shear span to minimum depth ratio ($a/d_{min}$) and tapering angle (${\alpha}$). The third group was designed mainly to optimize the geometry of the non-prismatic concrete beams with the same concrete volume while the steel fiber ratio and the shear span were left constant in this group. The presence of steel fibers in concrete led to an increase in the load-carrying capacity in a range of 10.25%-103%. Also, the energy absorption capacity was increased due to the addition of steel fibers in a range of 18.17%-993.18% and the failure mode was changed from brittle to ductile. Tapering angle had a clear effect on the shear strength of test specimens. The increase in tapering angle from ($7^{\circ}$) to ($12^{\circ}$) caused an increase in the ultimate shear capacity for the test specimens. The maximum increase in ultimate load was 45.49%. The addition of steel fibers had a significant impact on the post-cracking behavior of the test specimens. Empirical equation for shear strength prediction at cracking limit state was proposed. The predicted cracking shear strength was in good agreement with the experimental findings.

The manufacturing facility is generally operated by a pre-set program under the existing factory automation system. On the other hand, the manufacturing facility must decide how to operate autonomously in Industry 4.0. Determining the operation mode of the production facility itself means, for example, that it detects the abnormality such as the deterioration of the facility at the shop-floor, prediction of the occurrence of the problem, detection of the defect of the product, In this paper, we propose a manufacturing process modeling using a queue for detection of manufacturing process abnormalities at the shop-floor, and detect abnormalities in the modeling using SVM, one of the machine learning techniques. The queue was used for M / D / 1 and the conveyor belt manufacturing system was modeled based on ${\mu}$, ${\lambda}$, and ${\rho}$. SVM was used to detect anomalous signs through changes in ${\rho}$.
