  • This paper suggested an algorithm that uses a multiplier, 'w bit $\times$ w bit = 2w bit', to process $\frac{N}{D}$ integer division of 2w bit integer N and w bit integer D. An algorithm suggested of the research, when the divisor D is '$D=0.d{\times}2^L$, 0.5 < 0.d < 1.0', approximate value of $\frac{1}{D}$, '$1.g{\times}2^{-L}$', which satisfies '$0.d{\times}1.g=1+e$, e < $2^{-w}$', is defined as over reciprocal number and the dividend N is segmented in small word more than 'w-3' bit, and partial quotient is calculated by multiplying over reciprocal number in each segmented word, and quotient of double precision integer division is evaluated with sum of partial quotient. The algorithm suggested in this paper doesn't require additional correction, because it can calculate correct reciprocal number. In addition, this algorithm uses only multiplier, so additional hardware for division is not required to implement microprocessor. Also, it shows faster speed than the conventional SRT algorithm. In conclusion, results from this study could be used widely for implementation SOC(System on Chip) and etc. which has been restricted to microprocessor and size of the hardware.

  • Satellite imagery with high resolution of about one meter is used widely in commerce and government applications ranging from earth observation and monitoring to national digital mapping. Due to the expensiveness of IKONOS Pro and Precision products, it is attractive to use the low-cost IKONOS Geo product with vendor-provided rational polynomial coefficients (RPCs), to produce highly accurate mapping products. The imaging geometry of IKONOS high-resolution imagery is described by RFs instead of rigorous sensor models. This paper presents four different polynomial models, that are the offset model, the scale and offset model, the Affine model, and the 2nd-order polynomial model, defined respectively in object space and image space to improve the accuracies of the RF-derived ground coordinates. Not only the algorithm for RF-based ground coordinates but also the algorithm for accuracy improvement of RF-based ground coordinates are developed which is based on the four models, The experiment also evaluates the effect of different cartographic parameters such as the number, configuration, and accuracy of ground control points on the accuracy of geopositioning. As the result of a experimental application, the root mean square errors of three dimensional ground coordinates which are first derived by vendor-provided Rational Function models were averagely 8.035m in X, 10.020m in Y and 13.318m in Z direction. After applying polynomial correction algorithm, those errors were dramatically decreased to averagely 2.791m in X, 2.520m in Y and 1.441m in Z. That is, accuracy was greatly improved by 65% in planmetry and 89% in vertical direction.

  • Despite orthodontic treatment(tooth moving) is dynamic act many orthodontists have used mainly static evaluation method for evaluating effectiveness of the orthodontic appliances. They want to find which is better appliance, especially in the treatment results and treatment period when they chose one appliance from sugessted appliances for obtaining same treatment goal. The author and colleagues invented and manufactured new machine for getting information about the relative effectiveness from many suggested orthodontic appliances and we named it Calorific machine. We used this Calorinc machine to find the relative differences about tooth moving mechanism and tooth moving time between the Burstone's PLA(single force mechanism) and Molar-up's PLA(couple mechanism) for correcting the posterior cross bite. We measured the distance of tooth moving on the occlusal X-ray film and recorded the moving time of the anchored(control elctro-thermal tooth) and lingually tipped lower second molars(experimental electro-thermal tooth) and then processed paired t-est by SAS program. The results were as follows. 1. Molar-up's PLA showed more extrusive and horizontal movement than Burstone's PLA at the lingually tipped molar(p=0.0000). 2. There is no finding of tooth movement by Molar-up's PLA at the uprighted molar(p=o.3475) but Burstone's PLA showed a little change(0.2 m) at the same molar(p=0.0001). 3. Burstone's PLA took 17.8 minutes for tooth moving but Molar-up's PLA took only 3.8 minutes(p=0.0001)

  • Plutonium is by far the most important of the transuranic elements which have been released into the environment due to radio-toxicity and long term radiation effects on humans. And Pu isotope ratio ($^{240}Pu/^{239}Pu$) is of great interest because this ratio is used as a fingerprint for different sources. Mass spectrometry has been used as an useful atom counting technique with several advantages over decay counting techniques for the determination of Pu isotopes. It enables a determination of Pu isotope ratio in the environmental samples with a low detection limit and a short determination time. An ICP-MS is the representative mass spectrometry for Pu determination. In this study, the precision of $^{240}Pu/^{239}Pu$ isotope ratio was improved by using 4 multiple ion counters of MC-ICP-MS. The detection limit of $^{239}Pu$ and $^{240}Pu$ were $0.10\;fg\;ml^{-1}$ ($0.24\;{\mu}Bq\;ml^{-1}$), $0.12\;fg\;ml^{-1}$ ($0.97\;{\mu}Bq\;ml^{-1}$), respectively. The relative standard deviation of $^{240}Pu/^{239}Pu$ isotope ratio was less than 1 % in trace level. The various reference materials (seawater, soil and sediment) were analyzed to verify this method and their analytical results were in good agreement with the certified (or recommended value) value.

  • A number of existing cadastral control stations have been destroyed and shifted by a long lapse of time and careless management. Also, results of them are partly poor owing to dependence on conventional survey method. Because of these, it is very difficult in use of results. Hereupon, correction of cadastral results is necessary in level of government. But it is very consumable to check and adjust results with existing equipments and related techniques only. It is required that this problem can be resolved efficiently. This study analyzed the conformability for cadastral control network to GPS, GPS, which determine precise 3-D coordinates on a short time, to positioning of cadastral stations. We chose DaeJon city for the test area of this study and analyzed the precision of network composed of sixteen cadastral control stations. We made comparision the old result and the new outcome which obtained from coordinate transformation method and horizontal network adjustment method. As a result of this, we detected the blunder of cadastral stations. Furthermore, we suggested effective network type according to precision analysis of GPS observation network. Therefore, there is no doubt that GPS surveying can be applied to checking and adjustment of cadastral control network. Hereafter, it is expected that the practical use of GPS is advanced in a field of cadastration.

  • With the recent global and domestic development of Earth observation satellites, the applications of satellite images have been widened. Research for improving the geometric accuracy of satellite images is being actively carried out. This paper studies the possibility of automated ground control point (GCP) generation for CAS-4 satellite, to be launched in 2025 with the capability of image acquisition at 5 m ground sampling distance (GSD). In particular, this paper focuses to check whether GCP chips with 25 cm GSD established for CAS-1 satellite images can be used for CAS-4 and to check whether optimalspatial resolution for matching between CAS-4 images and GCP chips can be determined to improve matching performance. Experiments were carried out using RapidEye images, which have similar GSD to CAS-4. Original satellite images were upsampled to make satellite images with smaller GSDs. At each GSD level, up-sampled satellite images were matched against GCP chips and precision sensor models were estimated. Results shows that the accuracy of sensor models were improved with images atsmaller GSD compared to the sensor model accuracy established with original images. At 1.25~1.67 m GSD, the accuracy of about 2.4 m was achieved. This finding lead that the possibility of automated GCP extraction and precision ortho-image generation for CAS-4 with improved accuracy.

  • This paper introduces step by step procedures for the design, fabrication and operation of a solar tracking system. The system presented in this study consists of motion controllers, motor drives, step-motors, feedback devices and other accessories to support its functional stability. CdS sensors are used to constantly generate feedback signals to the controller, which assures a high-precision solar tracking even under adverse conditions. It enables instant correction if the system goes off track by strong winds causing gear backlash. A parabolic dish concentrator is mounted on the tracking system whose diameter was 30cm. The solar position data, in terms of azimuth and elevation, sunrise and sunset times were compared with those of the Astronomical Applications Department of the U.S. Naval Observatory. The results presented here clearly demonstrate the high-accuracy of the present system in solar tracking, which are applicable to many existing solar systems.

  • In this work, the buckling analysis of material sandwich plates based on a two-parameter elastic foundation under various boundary conditions is investigated on the basis of a new theory of refined trigonometric shear deformation. This theory includes indeterminate integral variables and contains only four unknowns in which any shear correction factor not used, with even less than the conventional theory of first shear strain (FSDT). Applying the principle of virtual displacements, the governing equations and boundary conditions are obtained. To solve the buckling problem for different boundary conditions, Galerkin's approach is utilized for symmetric EGM sandwich plates with six different boundary conditions. A detailed numerical study is carried out to examine the influence of plate aspect ratio, elastic foundation coefficients, ratio, side-to-thickness ratio and boundary conditions on the buckling response of FGM sandwich plates. A good agreement between the results obtained and the available solutions of existing shear deformation theories that have a greater number of unknowns proves to demonstrate the precision of the proposed theory.

  • Many problems need to be solved before vision systems can actually be applied in industry, such as the precision of the kinematics model of the robot control algorithm based on visual information, active compensation of the camera's focal length and orientation during the movement of the robot, and understanding the mapping of the physical 3-D space into 2-D camera coordinates. An algorithm is proposed to enable robot to move actively even if the relative positions between the camera and the robot is unknown. To solve the correction problem, this study proposes vision system model with six camera parameters. To develop the robot vision control algorithm, the N-R and EKF methods are applied to the vision system model. Finally, the position accuracy and processing time of the two algorithms developed based based on the EKF and the N-R methods are compared experimentally by making the robot perform slender bar placement task.

  • Mass spectrometric analysis was carried out using multicollector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS) for the precise and accurate determination of the isotope ratios of ultratrace levels of uranium dissolved in 3% $HNO_3$. We used the certified reference material (CRM) 112-A at a trace level of 100 pg/mL for the uranium isotopic measurement. Multiple collectors were utilized for the simultaneous measurement of uranium isotopes to reduce the signal uncertainty due to variations in the ion beam intensity over time. Mass bias correction was applied to the measured U isotopes to improve the precision and accuracy. Furthermore, elemental standard solution with certified values of platinum, iridium, gold, and thallium dissolved in 3% $HNO_3$ were analyzed to investigate the formation rates of the polyatomic ions of $Ir^{40}$ $Ar^+$, $Pt^{40}$ $Ar^+$, $Tl^{40}$ $Ar^+$, $Au^{40}$ $Ar^+$ for the concentration range of 50-400 pg/mL. Those polyatomic ions have mass-to-charge ratios in the 230-245 m/z region that it would contribute to the increase of background intensity of uranium, thorium, plutonium, and americium isotopes. The effect of the polyatomic ion interference on uranium isotope measurement has been estimated.
