  • This study details a researcher's self-study journey in advancing from a computational thinking (CT) novice to an expert. The researcher went through a four-stage process, with a preliminary literature review preceding the four stages. From the literature review, the computational thinking analysis (CT_AT) tool was developed for use in stage one to analyze science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematic (STEAM) modules. Although no discernable patterns were found in analyzing the five science and five engineering-based modules, the analysis revealed which CT practices were missing or weakly exposed. In stage two activities were suggested to promote these missing or weakly exposed practices. Stage three required the researcher to develop his own STEAM module from the viewpoint of exposing students to CT. The fourth stage was to validate the CT_AT through interviews with pre-service and in-service teachers. These interviews led to changes in the CT_AT tool and, as a result, the researcher produced a guidebook that could be used by teachers in their own CT studies. This guidebook can be used by teachers to develop and become competent in CT skills.

  • Objective: The objective of this study is to classify the personality types of early childhood teachers and examine the variations in teacher self-efficacy and play support based on these personality types. Methods: The subjects of this study consisted of 302 early childhood teachers responsible for children aged 3 to 5 years old. The collected data were analyzed using cluster analysis and analysis of covariance. Results: Early childhood teachers were categorized into four types: the "sensitive group" (29%), the "conservative group" (10%), the "passive group" (28%), and the "active group" (34%). Significant differences in mean scores were observed for teacher self-efficacy and play support across these personality types. Notably, the active group demonstrated the highest levels of both teacher self-efficacy and play support. Consequently, the active group emerged as the most effective and functional personality type among early childhood teachers. Conclusion/Implications: This study emphasized the significance of early childhood teachers' personality types in their teaching practices, underscoring the importance of developing in-service and pre-service teacher education programs that take into account these personality types.

  • Using computer technology in teaching school mathematics creates new instructional environments. The emphases on the use of computer technology in the classrooms and in particular the use of computer-based exploration as a context of mathematics instruction have been reflected in the recommendation of the NCTM (Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics, 1989). Although the power of using computer technology in the exploration of mathematical problems has been recognized and stressed by many educators, we do not have many research studies on mathematics in computer-based explorations. Especially research has failed to clarify how computer technology can contribute to the construction of procedural and conceptual knowledge of mathematics. Up to now most researches on procedural and conceptual knowledge in computer environments have only focused on classifying programming languages which program language has more random access and rich interrelationship characteristic in relation to conceptual knowledge in humans, and which computer language has more characteristic flavor of procedural knowledge. How computer-based explorations affect the knowledge construction of mathematics, therefore, emerges as an issue of research on teacher education program for theoretical framework. This situation leads to do research on the effectiveness of using computer explorations in pre-service teacher education in terms of procedural and conceptual knowledge construction.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the research trends of 114 papers about mathematical creativity published in domestic journals from 1997 to 2011 with regard to the years, objects, subjects, and methods of such research. The research of mathematical creativity education has been studied since 2000. The frequent objects in the research were non-human, middle and high school students, elementary students, gifted students, teachers (in-service and pre-service), and kindergarteners in order. The research on the teaching methods of mathematical creativity, the general study of mathematical creativity, or the measurement and the evaluation of mathematical creativity was active, whereas that of dealing with curricula and textbooks was rare. The qualitative research method was more frequently used than the quantitative research one. The mixed research method was hardly used. On the basis of these results, this paper shows how mathematical creativity was studied until now and gives some implications for the future research direction in mathematical creativity.
