The rule of the game of Chomp is simple and the existence of a winning strategy can easily be proved. However, the existence tells us nothing about what strategies are winning in reality. Like in Chess or Baduk, many researchers studied the winning moves using computer programs, but no general patterns for the winning actions have not been found. In the paper, we aim to construct practical winning strategies based on backward induction. To do this we develop how to analyze Chomp and prove and find the winning strategies of the simple games of Chomp.

Database summarization is the procedure to obtain generalized and representative descriptions expressing the content of a large amount of database at a glance. We present a top-down summary refinement procedure to discover database summaries. The procedure exploits attribute concept hierarchies that represent ISA relationships among domain concepts. It begins with the most generalized summary and proceeds to find more specialized ones by stepwise refinements. This top-down paradigm reveals at least two important advantages compared to the previous bottom-up methods. Firstly, it provides a natural way of reflecting the user's own discovery preference interactively. Secondly, it does not produce too large intermediate result that makes it hard for the bottom-up approach to be applied in practical environment. The proposed procedure can also be easily extended for distributed databases. Information content measure of a database summary is derived in order to identify more informative summaries among the discovered results.

This paper presents the description, practical implementation, and stability analysis of a recently proposed, energy-efficient, medium access control protocol for wireless sensor networks, ALOHA-Q, which employs a reinforcement-learning framework as an intelligent transmission strategy. The channel performance is evaluated through a simulation and experiments conducted using a real-world test-bed. The stability of the system against possible changes in the environment and changing channel conditions is studied with a discussion on the resilience level of the system. A Markov model is derived to represent the system behavior and estimate the time in which the system loses its operation. A novel scheme is also proposed to protect the lifetime of the system when the environment and channel conditions do not sufficiently maintain the system operation.

The present study aims at figuring out the potential benefits occured from the practical pplications of the information analysis center concept in Korea. The R&D requirements in Korea at the moment is such that the highly specialized and sophisticated information services are essential. With the general information infrastructure still embryonic the best possible answer is sought in a specialized tried-out method, namely, the information analysis center which is to be planned and serviced as an integral part of a specific research project. The article examines the information exchange activities of scientists; the backgrounds of the development of the information analysis center concept into 'a technical institute'; the processess of information analyses and evaluations; the effects and values of an analysis center; and the applicabilities of the information analysis center concept with a special regard to the developing country's needs. The conclusion confirms of the potential benefits of the information analysis center type facilities for the current needs of the Korean research and development environments.

To gain competitive advantage in a fast changing environment, the higher education institution (HEI) must continuously adjust the strategies to that environment. One important strategy is how to determine appropriate practical actions based on what students really need and want. Despite the abundance of research on service quality management, there is no universal consensus on how best to determine appropriate practical actions in HEIs. The aim of this paper is to develop an integrated model to be used to accurately acquire the most critical service attributes and determine appropriate actions that promote student satisfaction. Drawing on relevant literature, an integrated model is proposed which is based on students' perspective by integrating the fuzzy SERVQUAL, refined Kano, and Blue Ocean model. Subsequently, an empirical case study in the higher education sector is described that illustrates the value of the model in determining the most critical attributes and how to improve them.

GongJu is a historical city. There has been scattered Baekje, Chosun and modern cultural heritages in GongJu. Cultural heritages in Baekje is simply preserved in their current condition. Chosun and modern cultural heritages have left their traces only, so that faded from the memory of the world. We must not lose the historical interconnectedness that is created by these heritages. This study is to analyze the architectural culture contents and its practical use program in urban side, and search for the strategy. The purpose of this study is as follows: The first is to retrieve the scattered heritages according to the age and area(as a spot). The second is to improve the street landscape through the linear linkage connecting from spot to spot.(as a line) The last is to create the image of historical city through the regional development.(as an area)

The concept of soft power presents both theoretical and practical difficulties for researchers and policy makers. This essay examines the practical use of soft power and argues that soft power resources in education are important for attracting individuals to migrate between countries and assimilate to the new language and culture of the new location. Japan's attempts to utilize soft power resources in its educational system have provided mixed results dependent on the target population. Japan has successfully attracted individuals into fields related to higher education much more so than skilled labor programs. This essay discusses the importance of educational soft power resources in Japanese strategy to increase educated working population that is assimilated to Japanese language and culture. After reviewing the literature on soft power in Asia, and Japanese cultural integration policies, the essay examines three cases of Japanese educational soft power - the JET Programme, the caregiver-training program, and internationalization of university programs. In addition, the essay shows that Japan is more successful attracting higher educated individuals seeking higher paying employment rather than skilled labor through these programs.

Todays, there is fast transition about the new manufacturing IT methodologies from the conceptual phase into the practical application phase for the strengthening of enterprise competitiveness in manufacturing industry. One of those new methodologies is PLM (Product Life-cycle Management). PLM methodology consists of 3D CAD for the product design, PDM (Product Data Management) for the data management based on the collaboration platform and lastly DM (Digital Manufacturing). DM has evoluted from the stand-alone computer simulation of early 1980s, and now it covers the overall production development and production. Unfortunately, there exist serious critical problems about the actual application of DM for the real work. This is owing to the transition of the point of view from stand-alone type application (such as flow simulation or robot simulation) to that of business process about product development and production management. In this paper, we propose an application framework for the successful project with the digital manufacturing methodology with the concept of Information Strategy Planning, which enables the systematic diagnosis and the quantitative evaluation. Also, we introduce the actual practice of the proposing framework with the ISP project for 'Analysis & Simulation Technique of manufacturing process project' that is being conducted by Chungnam Techno Park.

This study was conducted to explore the coping strategy of Korean men in an international marriage. To achieve this purpose, we selected 4 Korean husbands who had married after seeking the services of matchmaking agencies, and we used snowball sampling. The data were collected through in-depth interviews, and analyzed according to the case study research method. It was found that the men considered international marriage to be their second choice instead of the best one. But they considered their marriage to be 'a prepared marriage', not 'a rash marriage.' 'The prepared marriage' allowed them to have realistic expectations, and to become 'tied in wedlock' with 'a good person.' The Korean husbands coped with difficulties and problems through flexible thinking, such as considering 'how the woman acts depends on the man', 'finding a model mentor couple', 'keeping an open mind to each other', 'reinforcing family ties', and 'developing their wife's independent capacity.' Based on the results, practical alternatives for Korean husbands were suggested. Lastly, the limitations of this study were mentioned.

The purpose of the study was to investigate what kinds of learning strategies EFL learners use to learn English grammar and what is benefit from structured grammar input processing. Students of the study consisted of 48 college students who took Practical English Grammar at a university in Kyung-Gi area and were divided into two groups based on grammar scores. The students were asked to take two grammar tasks and grammar tests and complete a survey including questions on grammar strategy and input processing. The results of the study are as follows. First, learners' grammar level has an effect on use of grammar attack strategy including asking teachers, using grammar books and given contexts whereas there was no significant difference between groups in the planning strategies, Among memory strategies, using grammar exercise and linking with already known structure demonstrated a significant difference between groups. Second, with regard to input processing, high level students got higher score on how much they understood the structured grammar input compared with low level students. Third, explicit implicit instruction added to input processing seems more comprehensible and more available than structured input only, Finally, it showed that there is positive relationship between perception and score of input processing tasks and grammar tests. Especially, learners' perception of input processing correlated more with final tests and tasks. Therefore, it suggests that the more input processing task need to develop and utilize in order to facilitate learners' intake.
