  • In this paper, when electric train is in dead-section the effect on electric train system was dealt. The feeding system of electrical railway is AC or DC. When the electric train is passed AC feeding system to DC, vice versa or phase is changed in between AC feeding systems, there is a dead section. A dead section usually makes the electrical system complex md may have an adverse effect on the electrical system inside the train. Accordingly, it is important to analyze the effect on trains in dead-section. Modeling an electric train and simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC was accomplished to analyze how power quality problem such as inverter switching surge is propagated to electric train through the feeding line, railway, pantograph.

  • At the railway feeding system, a role of dead section is very important. Because, dead section is essential installation that AC feeding system meets DC feeding system or phase is changed between AC feeding systems. But, in dead section it is possible that an electric train meets interruption. In Korea, a study on the dead section isn't yet accomplished in depth. Accordingly. In this paper, when electric train is in dead-section power quality problem on electric train was dealt. Modeling and simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC was accomplished to analyze.

  • In this research, laser cladding characteristics were investigated for various filler metal feeding methods such as powder, cold wire, and hot wire feeding. Appropriate parameter window, deposition rate, material efficiency and dilution for each filler feeding method were evaluated with same laser power and cladding speed range. Laser powder cladding has wider process parameter window but higher material efficiency and lower dilution were achieved by laser wire cladding. Among these feeding methods, laser hot-wire cladding showed best efficiency in material usage and deposition rate.

  • This paper presents performance comparison between concentrated winding and distributed winding of IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) which is recently used for light-weight railway applications. Motors are designed on various schemes and analyzed by using FEM (Finite Element Method) instead of EMCNM (Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network Method) in order to take into account saturation and non-linear magnetic property. The overall performance such as torque, torque ripple, losses, demagnetization, efficiency, power density and so on are investigated in detail at the rated and maximum operating speed. The results of the analysis found that both concentrated and distributed winding IPMSMs are promising candidates for high power railway traction motor.

  • Constant load model is generally used for an electric train to perform the static analysis of AT feeding systems. In this model, the train will be considered as a constant load model when it drives or as a constant source model when it applies regenerative brake. However there must be some voltage constraints on the catenary in actual operations. These constraints are established for the reason of protecting the feeding facilities from excessive rise of regenerative braking voltage or guaranteeing the minimum traction power of train. In normal operating situation, the pantagraph voltage of the train should be maintained within these limits. Keeping these facts in minds, we suggest new methods of analyzing AT feeding systems using the constant power models with the conditions of voltage constraints. The simulation results from a sample system using the proposed method illustrate both the states of system variables and the supply-demand relation of power among the trains and the systems very clearly, so it is believed that the proposed method yields more accurate results than conventional methods do. The proposed methods are believed to contribute to the assessment of TCR-TSC for compensating reactive powers too.

  • There are some previous studies that utilize constant impedance models or constant current models for electric trains to perform the static analysis of AT feeding systems. These mentioned models have some merits of linear systems but yield erroneous results because of the innate restraints of the models since linear models cannot represent the features of constant power in inverter-driven trains. From these reasons, it is suitable that the train be considered as a constant load model when it drives or as a constant source model when it applies regenerative brake. However, excessive rise of regenerative voltage during the braking may damage the vehicle itself and the feeding systems so the voltage must be restricted below a certain value.

  • This paper presents novel architectures for power amplifier (PA) relying on 3rd harmonic-tuning technique and dual feeding antenna structure for the isolation of the Tx and the Rx ports. Active integrated antenna (AIA) with power amplifier makes the problem of the isolation between the Tx and the Rx ports occur So, this paper suggests dual feeding and dual resonant structures of the AIA with PA are possible to obtain the high isolation between the Tx and the Rx signals. Dual resonant triangular microstrip antenna, which can replace power amplifier tuning circuit, with slots-loaded and characteristic of the isolation between the Tx and the Rx ports using inset microstrip line feeding and probe feeding methods is proposed and experimentally studied for the case of thin substrate.

  • In this thesis, two possible schemes for power feeding are considered. The first one is the network power feeding, and the other is the power feeding from the rechargeable battery. Though each scheme has its merits and demerits, the domestic network operator has proposed the latter due to the large deviation of line resistance, high power loss, and safety. This scheme, however, has several problems. The usage is limited by the life of battery leading to the failure of minimal voice service for many hours. The space occupation of that battery is another serious problem. Moreover, the network opeator should have overhead of maintenance and repair. In order to alleviate such the difficulties, the sealing current is introduced through the subscriber loop. Flowing the current into the loop prevents from rusting. This thesis designs a power controller using PEB2025 to control various amount, duration, and period of this sealing current, to achieve the optimum current supply for sealing.

  • This paper deals with a novel solid state controller (NSSC) for an isolated asynchronous generator (IAG) feeding 3-phase 4-wire loads driven by constant power prime movers, such as uncontrolled pico hydro turbines. AC capacitor banks are used to meet the reactive power requirement of the asynchronous generator. The proposed NSSC is realized using a set of IGBTs (Insulated gate bipolar junction transistors) based current controlled 2-leg voltage source converters (CC- VSC) and a DC chopper at its DC bus, which keeps the generated voltage and frequency constant in spite of changes in consumer loads. The neutral point of the load is created using aT-configuration of the transformers. The IAG system is modeled in MATLAB along with Simulink and PSB (power system block set) toolboxes. The simulated results are presented to demonstrate the capability of the isolated generating system consisting of NSSC and IAG driven by uncontrolled pico hydro turbine and feeding 3-phase 4-wire loads.
