Initial Firing Angle Control of Parallel Multi-Pulse Thyristor Dual Converter for Urban Railway Power Substations

  • This paper presents an optimal initial firing angle control based on the energy consumption and regenerative energy of a parallel multi-pulse thyristor dual converter for urban railway power substations. To prevent short circuiting the thyristor dual converter, a hysteresis band for maintaining a zero-current discontinuous section (ZCDS) is essential during mode changes. During conversion from the ZCDS to forward or reverse mode, the DC trolley voltage can be stabilized by selecting the optimal initial firing angle without an overshoot and slow response. However, the optimal initial firing angle is different depending on the line impedance of each converter. Therefore, the control algorithm for tracking the optimal initial firing angle is proposed to eliminate the overshoot and slow response of DC trolley voltage. Simulations and experiments show that the proposed algorithm yields the fastest DC voltage control performance in the transient state by tracking the optimal firing angle.

Coordinated Voltage-Reactive Power Control Schemes Based on PMU Measurement at Automated Substations

  • This paper deals with methodology to control an automatic substation system. The control system can predict the power system condition by a voltage stability index (VSI). The strategies in this paper is called as Voltage-Reactive Power Control (VRPC), which regulates an abnormal voltage of a target substation by using coordination between tap changers and shunt capacitor/reactor. This method is efficient for better voltage profile. The monitoring substation includes whole of substations around the contingency event. The control quantities of the monitoring substations are decided by the calculation of the VSI, called as a Z-index. Case studies with BC Hydro-Quebec system are presented to illustrate this approach using real-time simulator.

  • 도시철도의 전동차는 변전설비로부터 전력을 공급받아 지상, 지하부의 다양한 선로조건(구배)를 지닌 선로를 운행하며, 열차 제동 시 많은 회생전력이 발생하고 있다. 회생제동은 에너지를 재활용 할 뿐만 아니라 기계식 브레이크의 사용을 줄이는 매우 이상적인 시스템이라고 할 수 있다. 또한 중요한 점은 회생제동이 가능한 시스템은 발생된 에너지가 어떤 정해진 흐름을 가지고 소모되고 재활용 가능하다는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 서울도시철도 전력공급소(변전소)의 전동차용 전력의 정밀분석을 실시하였다. 이를 통하여 변전소 전력공급과 전동차 전력사용의 데이터 분석을 통하여 회생전력 활용 연구의 기반작업을 수행하였다.

A Phase-shifter for Regulating Circulating Power Flow in a Parallel-feeding AC Traction Power System

  • A parallel-feeding AC traction power system increases the power supply capacity and decreases voltage fluctuations, but the circulating power flow caused by the phase difference between the traction substations prevents the system from being widely used. A circuit analysis shows that the circulating power flow increases almost linearly as the phase difference increases, which adds extra load to the system and results in increased power dissipation and load unbalance. In this paper, we suggest a phase shifter for the parallel-feeding AC traction power system. The phase shifter regulates the phase difference and the circulating power flow by injecting quadrature voltage which can be obtained directly from the Scott-connection transformer in the traction substation. A case study involving the phase shifter applied to the traction power system of a Korean high-speed rail system shows that a three-level phase shifter can prevent circulating power flow while the phase difference between substations increases up to 12 degrees, mitigate the load unbalance, and reduce power dissipation.

고속철도 변전소 피크부하 저감용 ESS 용량 산정 및 경제성 분석 (Sizing and Economic Analysis of Battery Energy Storage System for Peak Shaving of High-Speed Railway Substations)

  • The paper proposed a sizing method of an energy storage system(ESS) for peak shaving of high-speed railway substations based on load profile patterns of substations. A lithium based battery ESS was selected since it can produce high-power at high speed that peak shaving requires, and also takes up a relatively smaller space for installation. Adequate size of the ESS, minimum capacity which can technically meet a peak shaving target, was determined by collectively considering load patterns of a target substation, characteristics of the ESS to be installed, and optimal scheduling of the ESS. In case study, a local substation was considered to demonstrate the proposed sizing method. Also economic analysis with the determined size of ESS was performed to calculate electricity cost savings of the peak shaving ESS, and to offer pay-back period and return on investment.

전력용 변압기 철심소음 저감기술에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Core Noise Reduction Techniques of Power Transformers)

  • According to the increase of power demand and expansion of downtown, it is necessary to install transformers additionally in operating substations and construct substations in residential area. But the public complaint is increased due to the transformer noise of the substation. KEPCO has used a vibration preventing pad, various soundproof walls and an encloser to transformers in outdoor substations, and a soundproof door, shutter and wind-path soundproof equipment in indoor substations to block the sound propagation of the transformers. But these noise reduction methods are not satisfied. It should be considered to reduce transformer noise itself. In this paper, we investigated core noise reduction techniques to develope a low noise transformer. The techniques to reduce core noise of the transformer are application of high permeability grain oriented silicon sheets, decrease of magnetic flux density of core, application of 6step-lap core stacking method, improvement of core binding method(binding addition, band fixing) and application of rubber damper in oder to reduce transmission of core vibration, etc.

In this paper, we investigated tank noise reduction techniques to develope a low noise transformer. According to the mode analysis of transformer tank, we found out characteristics and locations of noise on the tank, and it's nature vibration was also analysed. On the basis of these analysis, reinforcement equipment was installed around transformer tank, and ellipse shape tank was changed to round shape tank. The effect of noise reduction was evaluated using noise generation source.

  • The testing and evaluating shunting rates of operating substations have become difficult recently due to various factors including increased fault current, limited area of urban substations and construction of substations in mountain location. In this paper, we have analysed the computation and measurement method of shunting currents that be applied grounding system maintenance of power substations. Also, simple and detailed test methods using 70Hz current injection are explained. A computer program is developed for a study on the shunting properties such as grounding impedance and shunting rates of grounding current, and the simulation results are compared with the measurement data to prove validity and effectiveness of the program and measurement method under commercial operation of a GIS type model substation respectively.

  • With increase of load power the case it will not be able to supply the power which is necessary to the vehicle, it establishes dosage increase of main transformer of substation or power compensation equipment, and must supply the power which is necessary. But like this method the expense and the hour when it is considerable are necessary. As an alternative plan, if neighborhood substation can supply power through parallel feeding then it can supply power applying the equipment of existing. So we investigate the possibility of parallel feeding method between neighboring substations through measuring results of voltage phase difference and analysing feeding circuit,

전원 임피던스 제어를 통한 도시철도 최대전력 최적화 (Peak Power Optimization for Metro Railway using by Source Impedance Control)

  • Urban railway with rectifiers is connected by parallel circuits because substations are joined by the power rail. Thus, if an input voltage of a substation is increased, then the voltage of rectifiers is also increased, and which leads to an increase in the peak power of the substation. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new method reducing the peak power of substations by adjusting the operation number of rectifiers. Its feasibility is exemplified by some simulations performed for Incheon subway Line 1 and GA(Genetic Algorithm) method has been applied to obtain the optimal input. Simulation results show that peak power can significantly be reduced using the method proposed in this paper.
