  • Power-saving PC software enables the inexpensive power control, but the installation of the power-saving software in all computers in the organization is not an easy task. Computer users in the organization are usually not cooperative as they do not think the power-saving cost is directly related to themselves. The PC power-saving system provides advantage to driving active participation in which users installs the power saving software by restricting IP address through the power management server. However, the problem with this approach is the security vulnerability to IP spoofing attacks, therefore we need to solve the problem that disrupt the entire network system rather than saving electric power. This paper proposes the security authentication system that can implement the efficiency saving power by providing high security for the members' computer system of the public institutions based on the PC power-saving system. Also, by analyzing it in comparison with other method, it is possible to check that the prospects of safety and efficiency are strengthened.

  • Power saving is one of the most important features that extends the lifetime of portable devices in mobile wireless networks. The IEEE 802.16e mobile broadband wireless access system adopts a power saving mechanism with a binary truncated exponent algorithm for determining sleep intervals. When using this standard power saving scheme, there is often a delay before data packets are received at the mobile subscriber station (MSS). In order to extend the lifetime of a MSS, the battery energy must be used efficiently. This paper presents a dynamically alternating sleep interval scheduling algorithm as a solution to deal with the power consumption problem. We take into account different traffic classes and schedule a proper sequence of power saving classes. The window size of the sleep interval is calculated dynamically according to the packet arrival rate. We make a tradeoff between the power consumption and packet delay. The method achieves the goal of efficiently reducing the listening window size, which leads to increased power saving. The performance of our proposed scheme is compared to that of the standard power saving scheme. Simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of our power saving scheme and its ability to strike the appropriate performance balance between power saving and packet delay for a MSS in an IEEE 802.16e mobile broadband wireless access system.

  • 3GPP(Third Generation Partnership Project) LTE system that is the next step forward in cellular 3G services address the issues related to power saving at LTE base station. This is because that most of the energy in a typical telecommunication network is consumed by the wireless network's base station site. Power saving at LTE base station fall in with low-carbon green technology. This thesis proposes a power saving MAC protocol for LTE base station which utilizes different graded DRX/DTX(Discontinuous. Reception/Transmission). Considering traffic type in UE, proposed MAC protocol controls adaptive DRX/DTX cycle. The proposed method is more improve power saving performance than another method which is unchanged DRX/DTX by conditions. In this thesis, I propose an power saving MAC protocol in an environment where LTE base station are communicated with UE and prove improvement in performance through simulations.

  • When the WiBro/WLAN hierarchical network is structured, a dual mode access terminal should keep WLAN module with power on state for operating in WiBro network outside of WLAN hotspot zone. Power consumption of user's access terminal can be increased to maintain WLAN module power on state of dual mode access terminal in WiBro network outside of the hotspot zone. This paper focuses on power saving strategy for a dual mode access terminal in WiBro/WLAN Hierarchical network to overcome problems regarding power. We will apply information about hotspot in WiBro network to establish the efficient power saving strategy for dual mode access terminal.

  • The green IT technology is being introduced in diverse sectors, especially in the data center and green computer sectors. Rack-type PCs, which have been developed by improving the computer hardware, are effective for data centers and large businesses, but they are not usually introduced in small organizations such as small and medium businesses and schools because they require high initial costs. Power-saving PC software enables the inexpensive power control, but the installation of the power-saving software in all computers in the organization is not an easy task. Computer users in the organization are usually not cooperative as they do not think the power-saving cost is directly related to themselves. In this paper, a technique wherein the server has a restriction in providing the IP address to the computers that has no power-saving software is proposed, so that users will cooperate in the PC power-saving system to avoid inconvenience. In order to provide restricted IP address periodically, the server makes a request of power-saving software installation check for user's PC. Proposed technique is more effective ways to save computer energy, because it does not depend on specific systems or organizations.

  • We propose and demonstrate an efficient power-saving optical network unit (ONU) based on upstream traffic monitoring for 10-Gb/s wavelength division multiplexed passive optical networks (WDM-PONs). The power-saving mode controller uses a ${\mu}$-processor and traffic monitoring modules followed by the proposed power-saving processes to operate the sleep mode ONU. The power consumption of the ONU is effectively reduced from 19.3 W to 6.4 W when no traffic from the users is detected. In addition, we design a power-saving mechanism based on a cyclic sleep mode operation to allow a connectivity check between the optical line terminal and ONU. Our calculation results show that the WDM-PON ONU reduces the power consumption by around 60% using the proposed mechanism.

  • The power saving mechanism of IEEE 802.16e operates in two modes; awake mode and sleep mode. While the user terminal transmits and receives packets in awake mode, it sleeps for a given interval to save the power consumption in sleep mode. The IEEE 802.16e specifies that the user terminal increases the sleep interval exponentially unless it has to wake up. In this paper, we analyze the performance of IEEE 802.16e power saving mechanism by considering down link traffic conditions. With the extensive simulations, we observe the trade-off between the power saving performance and the average packet delay. In addition, we observe that various performance parameters of IEEE 802.16e power saving mechanism are affected by the traffic patterns.

  • This thesis proposes a power saving MAC protocol for LTE base station which utilizes different graded DRX/DTX(Discontinuous. Reception/Transmission) that specified by 3GPP(Third Generation Partnership Project). Considering QoS in UE, proposed MAC protocol controls adaptive DRX/DTX cycle. When Packet delay of UE is less than normal time, LTE base station economize power by increasing DRX/DTX. When Packet delay of UE is more than normal time, delay of UE is decreased by guaranteed QoS. It depends on the traffic which is sent by UE. The proposed method is more improve power saving performance than another method which is unchanged DRX/DTX by conditions. Especially when set DRX/DTX up in conditions, it will meet the requirements of UE. In this thesis, I propose an power saving MAC protocol in an environment where LTE base station are communicated with UE and prove improvement in performance through simulations.

  • This paper considers a power saving technique of set-top box (STB) that turns the signal into content which is then displayed on the television (TV) screen. A traditional power saving scheme, Auto Power Down (APD), was devised to reduce the power consumption of STB. APD checks whether the user is watching TV over a period of time and enforces STB into stand-by mode when the check result reveals the user is not watching TV. This paper proposes an enhanced power saving scheme that transits STB operation mode to 'stand-by' immediately when STB recognizes the change of TV's external input signal. The proposed scheme does not require the monitoring time to check the users' watching TV, and transits to standby mode faster than the conventional APD, which results in better performance in power saving. The simulation result shows that the proposed scheme achieves 2 to 11% improvement in power consumption compared with the conventional APD.
