This paper proposes an online adaptive neuro-controller for a wind energy conversion system (WECS) that is a highly nonlinear system intrinsically. In real application, to obtain exact system parameters such as power coefficient, many measuring instruments and implementations are required, which is very difficult to perform. This shortcoming can be avoided by introducing neural network in the controller design in this paper. The proposed adaptive neural control scheme using radial-basis function network (RBFN) needs no system parameters to meet control objectives. Combining derivative estimator for wind velocity, the whole closed-loop system is shown to be stable in the sense of Lyapunov.
The wind power is known as the most promising future energy source to obtain the electricity. Induction generator is a simple energy conversion wit in the wind power generation system but it consumes the reactive power from the interconnected power system. Switched capacitor banks are normally used to compensate the reactive power, which bring about the transient overvoltage. This paper proposes a method for compensating the reactive power with STATCOM. A detail simulation model for analyzing the interaction between the wind power system and the commercial power system was developed using EMTDC software. The developed simulation model can be effectively utilized to plan the reactive power compensation for newly designed wind power system.

More than 80% of electric loads need DC electricity rather than AC at the moment. If DC power could be supplied directly to the terminal loads, power conversion stages including rectifiers, converters, and power adapters can be reduced or simplified. Therefore, DC microgrids may be able to improve energy efficiency of power distribution systems. In addition, DC microgrids can increase the penetration level of renewable energy resources because many renewable energy resources such as solar photovoltaic(PV) generators, fuel cells, and batteries generate electric power in the form of DC power. The integration of the DC generators to AC electric power systems requires the power conversion circuits that may cause additional energy loss. This paper discusses the capability and feasibility of DC microgrids with regard to energy efficiency analysis through detailed dynamic simulation of DC and AC microgrids. The dynamic simulation models of DC and AC microgrids based on the Microgrid Test System in KEPCO Research Institute are described in detail. Through simulation studies on various conditions, this paper compares the energy efficiency and advantages of DC and AC microgrids.
A new control technique which generates high-quality sinusoidal output voltage from a single-phase resonant do link inverter suitable for the UPS systems is presented. The inverter output voltage control system has the PID controller with a minor loop of the filter inductor current and tile feedforward controller. The proposed control scheme also solves resonant voltage overshoot without any additional switch or passive component, resulting in pulses with uniform amplitude and high efficiency. Experimental results in the case of linear and nonlinear loads are presented to confirm the usefulness of the Proposed control algorithms.
SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) on DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is a multi-functional after-treatment device which integrates soot filtration and DeNOx function into a single can. Because of its advantage in package and cost, the SCR on DPF is considered as a potential candidate for future application. It inherently employes wall flow type monolithic reactor so ash included in exhaust gas may deposit inside the inlet channel of this device. This study is intended to identify the impact of ash deposit on SCR reaction under wall flow type monolithic reactor. Simulation approach is used so relevant species transport equations for wall flow type monolith is derived. These equations can be solved together with momentum conservation equations and give solution for conversion performance. Both ash deposit and clean catalyst case are simulated and comparison of these two cases gives an insight for the impact of ash deposit on conversion performance. Ash deposit can be classified as ash layer and ash plug. and impact of ash deposit is described along with different morphology of ash deposit.
This paper proposes a MATLAB Simulink simulator for photovoltaic (PV) systems. The main contribution of this work is the utilization of a two-diode model to represent a PV cell. This model is known to have better accuracy at low irradiance levels which allows for a more accurate prediction of PV system performance. To reduce computational time, the input parameters are reduced to four and the values of $R_p$ and $R_s$ are estimated by an efficient iteration method. Furthermore, all of the inputs to the simulator are information available on a standard PV module datasheet. The simulator supports large array simulations that can be interfaced with MPPT algorithms and power electronic converters. The accuracy of the simulator is verified by applying the model to five PV modules of different types (multi-crystalline, mono-crystalline, and thin-film) from various manufacturers. It is envisaged that the proposed work can be very useful for PV professionals who require a simple, fast and accurate PV simulator to design their systems.

Cracking ammonia inside solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stack is a compact and simple way. To prevent sharp temperature fluctuation and increase cell efficiency, the decomposition reaction should be spread on whole cell area. This leading to a question that, how does anode thickness affect the conversion rate of ammonia and the cell voltage? Since the 0D model of SOFC is useful for system level simulation, how accurate is it to use equilibrium solver for internal ammonia cracking reaction? The 1D model of ammonia fed SOFC was used to simulate the diffusion and reaction of ammonia inside the anode electrode, then the partial pressure of hydrogen and steam at triple phase boundary was used for cell voltage calculation. The result shows that, the ammonia conversion rate increases and reaches saturated value as anode thickness increase, and the saturated thickness is bigger for lower operating temperature. The similar cell voltage between 1D and 0D models can be reached with NH3 conversion rate above 90%. The 0D model and 1D model of SOFC showed similar conversion rate at temperature over 750℃.

In this paper, three-phase power equalizing system (PES) with UPS function is proposed. This system is based on NiMH battery with battery management system. The power conversion circuit is composed with the three-phase converter/inverter, the bi-directional converter, and the thyristor switches. The three-phase converter/inverter provides the power to the grid or get the power from the grid. Also, it operates as a UPS. The bi-directional converter charges or discharges the battery. The thyristor switches are used for connecting/disconnecting with the grid and the load. A 15 kW prototype is implemented for the verifying the performance of the proposed system.
It is known that the reactive component of AC power in the Power system gives no energy to outside and causes enlargement of power apparatus, voltage fluctuation and unstability of power system. The power conversion system and control system which are composed of power semiconductor devices such as Thyrisor, transistor, GTO and so on have been appeared as new sources of Harmonics. So the reduction of harmonics in power semiconductor system is one of impending problems on the point of energy conservation and improvement of power factor. This paper treates the fundamental review of the harmonics reduction by Current type PWM-Inverter. This Inverter-detects not only the fundamental wave but also that of all harmonics created in the power semiconductor system and is scheduled to control by sampled value.
