This paper presents an on-line correction method of current measurement errors for a pure-integration-based flux estimation down to 1-Hz stator frequency. An observer-based approach is taken as one possible solution of eliminating the dc offset and the negative sequence component of unbalanced gains in the synchronous coordinate. At the same time, the positive sequence component estimation is performed by creating an error signal between a motor model reference and an estimated q-axis rotor flux established by a permanent magnet (PM) in the synchronous coordinate. The compensator utilizes a PI controller that controls the error signal to zero. The proposed technique further contains a residual error compensator to completely eliminate miscellaneous disturbances in the estimated flux. The developed algorithm has been implemented on a 1.1-kW permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

An AC electrical railroad system has rapidly changing dynamic single-phase load, and at a feeding substation, three-phase electric power is transformed to the paired directional single-phase electric power. There is a great difference in electrical phenomenon between the load of AC electrical railroad system and that of general power system. Electric characteristics of AC electrical railroad's trainload are changed continuously according to the traction, operating characteristic, operating schedule, track slope, etc. Because of the long feeding distance of the dynamic trainload, power quality problems such as voltage drop, voltage imbalance and harmonic distortion my also occur to AC electrical railroad system. These problems affect not only power system stability, but also power quality deterioration in AC electrical railroad system. The dynamic simulation model of AC electrical railroad system presented by PSCAD/EMTDC is modeled in this paper, andthen, it is analyzed voltage drop for AC electrical railroad system both with single-phase distributed STATCOM(Static Synchronous Compensator) installed at SP(Sectioning Post) and without.
This paper introduces a new scheme to balance the DC bus voltages of a cascaded H-bridge converter which is used as a Distribution Static Synchronous Series Compensator (D-SSSC) in electrical distribution network. The aim of D-SSSC is to control the power flow between two feeders from different substations. As a result of different cell losses and capacitors tolerance the cells DC bus voltage can deviate from their reference values. In the proposed scheme, by individually modifying the reference PWM signal for each cell, an effective balancing procedure is derived. The new balancing procedure needs only the line current sign and is independent of the main control strategy, which controls the total DC bus voltages of cascaded H-bridge. The effect of modulation index variation on the capacitor voltage is analytically derived for the proposed strategy. The proposed method takes advantages of phase shift carrier based modulation and can be applied for a cascaded H-bridge with any number of cells. Also the system is immune to loss of one cell and the presented procedure can keep balancing between the remaining cells. Simulation studies and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in the balancing of DC bus voltages.
The modified sinusoidal pulse-width modulation (SPWM) is one of the PWM techniques used in three-phase AC-DC buck converters. The modified SPWM works without the current sensor (the converter is current sensorless), improves production of sinusoidal AC current, enables obtainment of near-unity power factor, and controls output voltage through modulation gain (ranging from 0 to 1). The main problem of the modified SPWM is the huge starting current and voltage (during transient) that results from a large step change from the reference voltage. When the load changes, the output voltage significantly drops (through switching losses and non-ideal converter elements). The single-input single-output (SISO) approach with minor-loop voltage feedback controller presented here overcomes this problem. This approach is created on a theoretical linear model and verified by discrete-model simulation on MATLAB/Simulink. The capability and effectiveness of the SISO approach in compensating start-up current/voltage and in achieving zero steady-state error were tested for transient cases with step-changed load and step-changed reference voltage for linear and non-linear loads. Tests were done to analyze the transient performance against various controller gains. An experiment prototype was also developed for verification.
FACTS technology is developed into the sophisticated system technology which combines conventional power system technology with power electronics, micro-process control, and information technology. Its objectives are achieving enhancement of the power system flexibility and maximum utilization of the power transfer capability through improvements of the system reliability, controllability, and efficiency[1]. As a series and shunt compensator, UPFC consists of two inverters with common dc link capacitor bank. It controls the magnitude of shunt bus voltage and real and reactive power flow of transmission line[2]. In this paper, we present the design and control algorithm of UPFC simulator for KERI simulator. As a control algorithm is implemented by digital controller, we consider sample-and-hold of signals In this simulation, we use EMTDC/PSCAD V3.0 software which can simulate instantaneous voltage and current.
In this paper, the control algorithm and control methods for a combined system of shunt passive filter and series active filter in 3-phase 4-wire system are discussed. Moreover, the 3-phase 4-wire system is widely employed in distributing electric energy to several office building and manufacturing plants. In such systems, the third harmonic and odd multiples of $3^{rd}$($9^{th}$, $15^{th}$, etc.) are termed as triple and zero sequence components that do not cancel each other in the system neutral. As a result, the triple harmonics add together creating a primary source of excessive neutral current. Regarding this concern, this paper presents a new control scheme for a series hybrid active system. This series active power filter acts not only as a harmonic compensator but also as a harmonic isolator. Hence the required rating of the series active filter is much smaller than that of a conventional shunt active filter. However, the performance of the combined system is greatly influenced by the filtering algorithm employed in the active power filter. This paper proposes a series active power filter scheme based on performance function. Some experiments was executed and experimental results from a prototype active power filter confirm the suitability of the proposed approach.

High voltage direct current(HVDC) systems has been an alternative method of a power transmission to replace high voltage alternate current(HVAC), which is a traditional AC transmission method. Due to technical limitations, Line commutate converter HVDC(LCC-HVDC) was mainly used. However, result from many structural problems of LCC-HVDC, the voltage source converter HVDC(VSC-HVDC) are studied and applied recently. In this paper, after analyzing the reactive power and output voltage ripple, which are the main problems of LCC-HVDC, the characteristics of each HVDC are summarized. Based on this result, a new LCC-HVDC structure is proposed by combining LCC-HVDC with the MMC structure, which is a representative VSC-HVDC topology. The proposed structure generates lower reactive power than the conventional method, and greatly reduces the 12th harmonic, a major component of output voltage ripple. In addition, it can be easily applied to the already installed LCC-HVDC. When the proposed method is applied, the control of the reactive power compensator becomes unnecessary, and there is an advantage that the cut-off frequency of the output DC filter can be designed smaller. The validity of the proposed LCC-HVDC is verified through simulation and experiments.
The increase of triplen harmonics in three-phase four-wire systems leads to overloaded neutral conductor, common-mode noise problems, derating of transformers, and so on. Various compensator has been designed to prevent the problems associated with the triplen harmonics. But these can not protect distribution system effectively because the triplen harmonic source is distributed extensively and distribution system type is diverse. This paper explain the operation and installation of single phase active power filter to eliminate triplen harmonics and then it is verified by simulation.
For commercialized servo drives of the motion stage to include embedded controller, external terminal is provided for tracking command and encoder output, but internal terminal is not for control input. Thus, it is difficult to combine out signal of embedded controller with that of external compensator such as disturbance observer. In this study, for precise tracking control of motion stage without hardware change of the servo drive, tacking control system is composed of an inner loop of servo drive and an outer loop of disturbance observer. Then, the control system is designed so that the output response of actual plant corresponds with nominal model's in transient state as well as in steady state. Finally, the experiment results show that the designed control system is effective to reconcile actual plant behavior with nominal model under nonlinear friction and parameter perturbation.
A motor cylinder is widely used as an apparatus for transportation of a small scale load. It is, however, difficult for only one motor cylinder to transfer a large scale load such as a weir. The large scale load is transferred by two motor cylinders which are mounted on right and left of load itself. In this case, the displacement difference generated between two motor cylinders, namely, the synchronous error has a bad influence on the transportation. In this study, a synchronous control system is designed to restrain synchronous error caused by skew disturbance. The control system is composed of two disturbance observers and one synchronous controller. Each disturbance observer is designed to restrain the skew disturbance. And the synchronous controller is designed to achieve stable and accurate synchronization. Finally, the simulation results show that the designed control system is effective for the skew disturbance which lead to synchronous error.
