This study proposes polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) based cogeneration system for greenhouse heating and cooling. The main scope of this study is to examine the proposed cogeneration system's suitability for the 660 m2-class greenhouse. A 25 kW PEMFC system generates electricity for two identical air-cooled heat pumps, each with a nominal heating capacity of 70 kW and a cooling capacity of 65 kW. Heat recovered from the fuel cell supports the heat pump, supplying hot water to the greenhouse. In cooling mode, the adsorption system provides cold water to the greenhouse using recovered heat from the fuel cell. As a result, the cogeneration system satisfies both heating and cooling capability, performing 175 and 145 kW, respectively.

The recently proposed Kalina based power and cooling cogeneration cycles (KPCCCs) have shown improvement in the energy utilization of the system compared to the basic Kalina cycle. This paper suggests a combined tri-cogeneration system for power, heating and cooling based on the Kalina cycle. And thermodynamic performances of the suggested system based on the first and second thermodynamic laws are parametrically investigated with respect to the ammonia mass fraction and the boiler pressure. Results showed that the thermodynamic performance of the system could be greatly improved compared to the former KPCCCs.

The object of this study was to develop an economic assessment program for the optimal design of the cogeneration systems composed of combining engine, generator, waste heat recovery exchanger, absorption chiller, and boiler, etc. The energy demand categorized by electric power, heating, cooling and water supply was determined by statistical data of the existing cogeneration systems. An economic assessment was performed by comparing the total cost of cogeneration system with that of non-cogeneration system. The total cost was evaluated by adding initial investment to operational cost considering efficiency of equipment, cost of equipment, fuel and electricity. To confirm the validity of the developed program, a hotel building with an area of $127,960m^2$ was selected, and the simulated results were compared with the measured data. The difference between the simulated and the measured values for the selected hotel building was approximately 12% for annual electric consumption.

The Kalina cycle (KC) is considered as one of the most efficient systems for recovery of low grade heat. Recently, Kalina based power and cooling cogeneration cycles (KPCCCs) have been suggested and attracted much attention. This paper presents an energy and exergy analysis of a recently suggested KPCCC with flexible loads. The cycle consists of a KC (KCS-11) and an aqua-ammonia absorption refrigeration cycle. By adjusting the splitting ratios, the cycle can be operated with four modes of pure Kalina cycle, pure absorption cooling cycle, Kalina-cooling parallel cycle, and Kalina-cooling series cycle. The effects of system variables and the operating modes on the energetic and exergetic performances of the system are parametrically investigated. Results show that the system has great potential for efficient utilization of low-grade heat source by adjusting loads of power and cooling.

Thermodynamic cycles using binary mixtures as working fluids offer a high potential for utilization of low-temperature heat sources. This paper presents a thermodynamic performance analysis of Goswami cycle which was recently suggested to produce power and cooling simultaneously and combines the Rankine cycle and absorption refrigeration cycle by using ammoniawater mixture as working fluid. Effects of the system parameters such as concentration of ammonia and turbine inlet pressure on the system are parametrically investigated. Results show that refrigeration capacity or thermal efficiency has an optimum value with respect to ammonia concentration as well as to turbine inlet pressure.

The recent development of efficient thermal prime movers for distributed generation id changing the focus of the production of electricity from large centralized power plants to local generation units scattered over the territory. The scientific communality is addressing the analysis and planning of the distributed energy resources(der) with wide spread approaches, taking into account technical, environmental, economical and social issues. The coupling of cogeneration system to absorption/electric chillers or heat pumps as well as the interactions with renewable sources, allow for setting up multi-generation systems for building cooling heating and power(BCHP) systems of different energy vectors such as electricity, heat(at different enthalpy levels), cooling power, hydrogen, various chemical substances and so forth. Adoption of the composite multi-generation systems may lead to significant benefits in term of higher efficiency, reduced $CO_2$ emissions and enhanced economy. This paper outlines the main aspects of the BCHP system framework, illistrating its characteristics and summarizing the relevant distributed multi-generation structures.

Distributed generation(DG) of combined cooling, heat. and power(CCHP)has been gaining momentum in recent year as efficient, secure alternative for meeting increasing energy demands. This paper presents the energy performance of microturbine CCHP system equipped with an absorption chiller by modelling it in hospital building. The orders of study were as following. 1)The list and schedule of energy consumption equipment in hospital were examined such as heating and cooling machine, light etc. 2) Annual report of energy usage and monitoring data were examined as heating, cooling, DHW, lighting, etc. 3) The weather data in 2007 was used for simulation and was arranged by meteorological office data in Daejeon. 4) Reference simulation model was built by comparison of real energy consumption and simulation result by TRNSYS and ESP-r. The energy consumption pattern of building were analyzed by simulation model and energy reduction rate were calculated over the cogeneration. As a result of this study, power generation efficiency of turbine was about 30% after installing micro gas turbine and lighting energy as well as total electricity consumption can be reduced by 40%. If electricity energy and waste heat in turbine are used, 56% of heating energy and 67% of cooling energy can be reduced respectively, and total system efficiency can be increased up to 70%.

Micro gas turbine (MGT) has received attention recently as a small-scale distributed power source. Due to many advantages such as their small size, low maintenance cost and minimal vibrations during operation, they are expected to become widespread in a wide range of applications. The exhaust heat emitted by the MGT is in the form of an exhaust gas that is about $270^{\circ}C$ which is an extremely clean gas. Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) has researched performance characteristics of a cogeneration system combining 28kW class MGT and 13 USRT class absorption hot and chilled water generator in the local condition. The present results of this study can be summarized as follows: (1) in heating mode, the total efficiency of cogen. system is about $65\%$ and heating capacity is 33kW at 25kW MGP power (2) in cooling mode, COP is about 0.6 at 22kW MGT power.

This study was conducted to calculate the LCC of a apartment complex with a type of heating system, district heating and cogeneration system. For the purpose of analyzing LCC according to size of apartment complex, 500, 1,500 and 4,000 houses of model apartment selected. This research performs design of heating system and the life cycle cost analysis including an initial cost, energy cost, maintenance and operation cost, replacement cost and renovation cost during the project period(15years). According to the calculated results, 1) Initial cost of cogeneration system with 500, 1500 and 4000 houses is higher than district heating system each of 20%, 13%, 12%. 2) In case of cogeneration system, the payback period by electric generation is 5.21, 4.92 and 4.47 years and saving cost was calculated 29 billion won, 94 billion won and 262 billion won after payback period. 3) Cogeneration system LCC was 1.12, 1.07 and 1.06 times larger than district system with the size of apartment complex. According to the case of this study district heating system is more efficient than cogeneration system in terms of the reduction of LCC. 4) Gas Engine Co-generation System is more efficient than other systems because it can collect progressive part from electric charge progressive stage system. However, the efficiency is decreasing because of raising of fuel bills(LNG) and lowering of power rate for house use. Especially the engine is foreign-made so the cost of maintenance and repair is high and the technical expert is short. 5) District heating is also affected by fuel bills so we should improve energy efficiency through recovering of waste heat(incineration heat, etc.). Also, we should supply district cooling on the pattern of heat using of let the temperature high in winter and low in summer.
