  • The electricity supply industry for which high stability and quality of power are the primary aim of power company and the first order of business target. As the facilities of generations, transmissions and substations are increased every year, power system becomes more complex and hard to control. The complexity of the power system causes harmful influence on its security and power facilities. Moreover, difficulty of predicting weather condition in these days with its complexity increases the level of uncertainty of energy demand. Wide area online monitoring of power system offers lots of informations and solutions which clear the causes of insecurity in power system. In this paper, we presents the development of synchrophasor data measurement and transmission system using satellite network for power system online monitoring.

  • Power distribution system has been changed from radial system to closed loop or mesh system due to connection of distributed generation growth. Data from distribution equipments which are installed at distribution line is required to be accurate for the performance of DMS(Distribution Management System). This paper analyzes the voltage measurement data from distribution equipment. However, the results of the analysis are confirmed to have some errors in voltage measurement data from distribution equipment. These errors come from aging of voltage sensor in distribution equipment and inaccurate data transfer to FRTU(feeder remote terminal unit) through the controller. The main problem is that the voltage measurement data of distribution equipment can not be assessed after it's first installation at the distribution line. The voltage measurement accuracy assessment system is to assess the voltage measurement data from distribution equipment on hot-line. This study had a field test to verify the performance of system.

  • Currently, high data rate PLC(Power Line Communications), up to 100 Mbps, which use frequency bandwidth between 2 MHz and 30 MHz is investigated very hard, and commercial PLC modem for low voltage powerline network (indoor) is coming soon into communication market. For the purpose of developing a fit communication system which has little distortion of signal and attenuation, it is surely necessary to know about channel environments of powerline. Especially, the impedance measurement of the powerline and impedance matching are very important. As is known, since medium-voltage powerline (22.9 ㎸) is still working, it is not so simple to measure the powerline impedance. In our study, a portable impedance measurement equipment is developed. It consists of coupling capacitor, a drain coil and impedance matching transformer. The equipment is easily connected to medium voltage line and impedance of power line is measured using a network analyzer. Also, measurement results are used for impedance matching of PLC signal. In fact, matching transformer with several different impedances are used. The matching transformer is connected between coupling capacitor and signal port. In this paper, the developed portable impedance measurement equipment and impedance measurement results are presented. Also impedance matching technique using matching transformers will be explained. We showed the result of the improved performance by the impedance matching.

  • Harmonics happened due to nonlinear systems such as UPS, SCR controlled motors, and fluorescent lighting in distribute power system is very important subject to optimal operate and control of power system. Harmonics sometimes takes place incorrect operation of protective relaying system under normal condition on power system. This paper presents the actual recording data of transformer located at substation of industrial installation for harmonic analysis in detail.

Aerodynamic Force Measurement of Counter-Rotating System (동축 반전 시스템의 공력측정)

  • In the case of the general helicopter among rotorcraft, length of the rotor blade for thrust-generation is longer than that of fuselage and tail rotor is required in order to compensate moment of the fuselage. For those reasons, enough space for take-off and landing should be secured and an accessibility for building is low. Also, the accidents caused by tail rotor occur frequently. However, the case of counter-rotating has merits that tail rotor is unnecessary as well as length of the rotor blade can be shortened but has a weakness that the weight of body is increased. In the present study, aerodynamic force measurement on single rotor system equipped with NACA0012 airfoil, which has aspect ratio of 6 and chord length of 35.5 mm, was carried out. And measurement was conducted with blade which has a half size of the former blade by using single motor counter-rotating. Aerodynamic force measurement was acquired by using 6-component balances and coefficients of thrust and power were derived along the pitch angle varying from 0$^{\circ}$ to 90$^{\circ}$ with the increment of 10$^{\circ}$. Those aerodynamic force data will be utilized for the design and production of brand-new counter-rotating rotor blade system which has same thrust with single blade system and provides a good accessibility to building by reducing its blade length.

  • Recently, need of power stability and reliability has been increased as the spread of the sensitive electronic loads. Therefore, the power quality(PQ) problems become the hot Issue of public interest in these days. Many kinds of algorithms have been studied for the monitoring of PQ problems using the monitoring algorithms with RMS or FFT scheme, but it is still not enough to measure all of the PQ problems. This paper proposed the application of discrete wavelet transform(WT) for the PQ problems monitoring with the Introduction of WT theory, and the design of PQ monitoring data acquisition system Is described with some experimental results to verify the validity of the proposed PQ monitoring algorithm.

  • This paper proposes the new method based on the availability of three points measurement and convexity of photovoltaic (PV) curve characteristic at the maximum power point (MPP). In general, the MPP tracking (MPPT) function is the important part of all PV systems due to their power-voltage (P-V) characteristics related with weather conditions. Then, the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and low pass filter (LPF) are required to measure the voltage and current for MPPT by the digital controller, which is used to implement the PV power conditioning system (PCS). The measurement and quantization error due to rounding or truncation in ADC and the delay of LPF might degrade the reliability of MPPT. To overcome this limitation, the proposed method is proposed while improving the performances in both steady-state and dynamic responses based on the detailed investigation of its properties for availability and convexity. The performances of proposed method are evaluated with the several case studies by the PSCAD/EMTDC$^{(R)}$ simulation. Then, the experimental results are given to verify its feasibility in real-time.

  • Recently, there has been a surge in interest in equipment diagnosis and monitoring technology from the perspective of providing quality electricity in terms of reliability and safety. In order to meet the electrical demands of consumers, reliability of power supply needs to be maintained. For this purpose, a monitoring system for power cable is very important. Since real-time measuring equipment has many advantages, it is highly applicable. By measuring the load current and the surface temperature of power cables, we have monitored and identified the deterioration phenomena of power cables in operation. Since direct measurement of the cable conductor temperature is not easy, we have measured the surface temperature instead, and converted that temperature to obtain the conductor temperature of the cables. In addition, we have designed a system to detect the deterioration processes of the power cables in operation.

  • This paper presents a digital instrument for the power quality analysis in three phase power system where current waveform is non-sinusoidal. It is based on C31 DSP and on a special high-speed data acquisition system. Voltage and current waveforms are acquired and processed by using a simple average power algorithm, The paper also goes on to discuss the performance of an instrument prototype both in terms of accuracy and speed of measurement.
