  • A phase shift algorithm based on the closed-loop control of dc-link voltage implemented on a series active voltage quality regulator (AVQR) is proposed in this paper. To avoid pumping-up the dc-link voltage, a general phase shift compensation strategy is applied. The relationships among the operation variables are discussed in detail, which is very important for guiding the design of both the main circuit and the control system. Then on the basis of an investigation of the dc-link voltage pumping-up from viewpoint of the active power flow, a novel phase shift control method based on the closed-loop of the dc-link voltage is proposed. This method can adjust the phase of the output voltage gradually and automatically according to the dc-link voltage variation without introducing a phase jump. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified through simulations of a single-phase 5kVA prototype and laboratory experiments on both a single-phase 5kVA and a three-phase 15kVA prototype.

  • In this paper, it is suggested that the selection method of parameter of Power System Stabilizer(PSS) with robustness in low frequency oscillation for Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor(TCSC) using Geletic Algorithm(GA). A TCSC meddle consists of a stories capacitor and a parallel path with a thyristor valve and a series inductor. Also in in parallel, as is typical with series capacitor applications, is a metal-oxide varistor(MOV) for overvoltage protection. The proposed PSS parameters are optimized using GA in order to maintain optimal operation of TCSC which is expected to be applied in transmission system to achieve a number of benefits under the various operating conditions. In order to verify the robustness of the proposed method, we considered the dynamic response of angular velocity deviation and terminal voltage deviation under a power fluctuation and rotor angle variation.

We find the characteristics of chaos in power load curve and then determine a optimal embedding dimension and delay time, For the load forecast of one day ahead daily maximum power, we use the time series load data obtained in previous year. By using of embedding dimension and delay time, we construct a strange attractor in pseudo phase plane and the artificial neural network model trained with the attractor font mentioned above. The one day ahead forecast errors are about 1.4% of absolute percentage average error.

  • This paper presents a generalized expansion method for calculating reliability index in power generation systems. This generalized expansion with a gamma distribution is a very useful tool for the approximation of capacity outage probability distribution of generation system. The well-known Gram-Charlier expansion and Legendre series are also studied in this paper to be compared with this generalized expansion using a sample system IEEE-RTS(Reliability Test System). The results show that the generalized expansion with a composite of gamma distributions is more accurate and stable than Gram-Charlier expansion and Legendre series as addition of the terms to be expanded.

  • The power loss due to PV module mismatch in PV array system is analyzed and a mismatch compensation method is proposed. A dc-dc converter is used to compensate for series mismatch caused by a low current module in a string. The converter is controlled to maximize the array power output. The proposed compensation method was verified by PSpice simulation.

  • LCL filters are widely used in high-order harmonics attenuation of output currents in grid-connected inverters. However, output currents of grid-connected inverters with LCL filters can become unstable because of the resonance of the filters. Given that the characteristics of output currents in inverters mostly depend on filter performance, the exact analysis of filters by considering parasitic components is necessary for both harmonics attenuation and current control. LCL filters have three or four parasitic components: the series and/or parallel resistance of the filter capacitor and the series resistance of the two filter inductors. Most studies on LCL filters have focused on the parasitic components of the filter capacitor. Although several studies have addressed the parasitic components of the filter inductor at the inverter side, no study has yet investigated the concurrent effects of series resistance in both filter inductors in detail. This paper analyzes LCL filters by considering series resistance in both filter inductors; it proposes an active damping method based on the virtual series resistance of LCL filters. The performance of the proposed active damping is then verified through both simulation and experiment using Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulator(HILS).

  • This paper presents the development of a short-circuit protection mechanism on a high voltage switch (HVS) board which is built by a series connection of semiconductor switches. The HVS board is able to quickly detect and limit the peak fault current before the signal board triggers off a gate signal. Voltage clamping techniques are used to safely turn off the short-circuit current and to prevent overvoltage of the series-connected switches. The selection method of the main devices and the development of the HVS board are described in detail. Experimental results have demonstrated that the HVS board is capable of withstanding a short-circuit current at a rated voltage of 10kV without a di/dt slowing down inductor. The corresponding short-circuit current is restricted to 125 A within 100 ns and can safely turn off within 120 ns.

  • This paper addresses a damping control strategy of Static Synchronous Series Compensator(SSSC) and analysis model for stability study. The effect of injected voltage source generated by SSSC is modelled as equivalent load. This model is thought to be reasonable for the stability study because the dynamics of SSSC is very fast compared with that of power system. Damping controller of SSSC is based on Transient Energy Function method. The proposed control strategy is insensitive to the operating conditions like power flow level because control law depends on the phase angles. The proposed analysis model and control strategy was confirmed by WSCC 9 bus system and two area system. Especially, the robustness of proposed control strategy is demonstrated with respect to multiple operating conditions in two area system.
