Smoothing Filter Design Applying a Parameter of a Homo-polar Generator (단극발전기의 내부 인자를 적용한 평활필터 설계)

  • For satisfying a recommended value of the quality factor which is one of the important elements in a filter design, a new design method of smoothing filter using an internal parameter of a homopolar generator is proposed. The method increases the efficiency and minimizes the size of the smoothing filter by removing the damping resistor. By considering the resonant frequency as well as the quality factor, the new method can improve the stability of the system which has high boosting converters with negative resistance characteristics.

Quality Characteristics of Bread Dough added with Immature Chalssalbori Flour (미성숙 찰쌀보리가루를 첨가한 식빵반죽의 품질특성)

  • This study investigated both the chemical and antioxidative characteristics of wheat flour added with 10, 20 and 30% immature chalssalbori flour; further, the quality characteristics of bread dough during yeast fermentation were assessed. As the addition rate of chalssalbori flour into wheat flour increased, the DPPH radical scavenging capacity, water absorption index, water solubility index and viscosity were all increased. Moreover, the bread dough with an increased addition rate of chalssalbori flour demonstrated an increased pH, reduced fermentative expansion power and a darker yellowish color. The bread dough added with chalssalbori flour after mixing showed higher hardness, gumminess and adhesiveness, but lower cohesiveness and springiness compared to the control; however, these texture characteristics were changed during fermentation. In the present study, the mixed flour with 10% immature chalssalbori flour conveyed similar pasting characteristics to those of wheat flour; moreover, its bread dough showed higher springiness and fermentative expansion power. Furthermore, a delay effect of starch retrogradation can be expected compared to the control.

Quality Characteristics of Barley Varieties Related to Enzymatic Activity in Malt (엿기름의 효소활성과 관련한 보리의 품질특성)

  • Sixteen domestic barley varieties and subsequently produced malts were evaluated for quality characteristics. Diastatic power(DP), complementary actions of amylases in malt, had a wide $variation(139{\sim}220^{\circ}L)$ among the barley varieties. Some 6-row barley varieties demonstrated significantly high DP values. ${\beta}-\;and\;{\alpha}-amylase$ activities in malts were also significantly influenced by barley varieties. Diastatic power was highly correlated with ${\beta}-amylase$ activity, indicating that the ${\beta}-amylase$ activity was a predominant factor determining saccharifying action in malt. Amylograph was used to indirectly estimate starch-degrading enzymatic activity, and the reduction in amylograph viscosity was associated with ${\alpha}-amylase$ activity. Barley quality factors in relation to enzymatic activity of malt were analyzed, and the barley variety with lower kernel weight and less plumper kernels tended to produce higher starch-degrading enzyme activity. Potential diastatic power, an estimate of bound ${\beta}-amylase$ in raw barley, was associated with diastatic power in the final malt. Potential diastatic power turned out to be an important factor for predicting good malting barley.

  • The broadband Power Splitters and Tap-Offs are needed to transmit a number of channels of signals with the high quality of signals. In this paper the design theories and analysis of the theoretical frequency characteristics of the Wilkinson's Power Splitters and Tap-Offs are reviewed. Then it has been showned that the theoretical frequency characteristics of the proposed compensated Wilkinson's Power Splitter and Tap-Off are improved much in comparison with the prototype wikinson's Power Splitter and conventional weakely-coupled Tap-Off. Furthermore the measured results of frequency characteristics for the fabricated circuits show agreement with the theoretical results and hence the validity of the proposed design and analysis methods has been confirmed.

  • The three-phase diode rectifier with capacitive Inter is highly sensitive to line voltage unbalance. Because of its inherent nonlinear characteristics small line voltage unbalance may cause highly unbalanced line current causing detrimental effects on power quality. This paper presents a theoretical basis on this 'unbalance amplification effect' and derives an analytical model of line current characteristics under unbalanced line voltage condition for various modes of operation. The results provide a basic and important guideline for optimal design of a three-phase diode rectifier with capacitive filter that is most commonly used for interfacing various power conversion equipments to power lines.

Quality Characteristics of Salad Dressing Added with Acaiberry Powder (아사이베리를 첨가한 샐러드드레싱의 품질특성 및 항산화활성)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of salad dressing prepared with acaiberry powder (0, 1, 3, and 5%). The pH and titratable acidity increased as the acaiberry powder increased. The sugar content showed no significant differences between samples. The viscosity was lowest in the controls and increased with increasing amounts of the acaiberry powder. The lightness and yellowness values decreased, while the redness values increased with increasing amounts of acaiberry powder. The total polyphenol content ranged from 10.26-45.19 mg GAE/100 g, increasing with increased acaiberry powder levels. The antioxidant activities measured via DPPH radical scavenging activity, reducing power and FRAP also increased with increasing acaiberry powder concentrations. Finally, a consumer acceptance test revealed that up to 3% acaiberry powder could be added to salad dressing to provide high antioxidant activity without sacrificing sensory quality.

  • Local malt barleys have been examined for the quality characteristics. Regional differences in quality characteristics of malt barley were observed in a single variety. Promising barley varieties for brewing, in terms of protein contents, germinating power and diastic power were Sacheon No. 2,6,9, Mokpo 11 and 12. Possible use of certain malt barleys is suggested and discussed.

  • The lateral-mode characteristics of 850-nm GaAs/(Al,Ga)As multiple-quantum-well laser diodes and their influence on the kinks in output optical power are investigated. For the investigation, self-consistent electro-thermal-optical simulation and measurement of fabricated devices are used. From this investigation, the optimal P-cladding thickness that provides single-lateral-mode operation is determined, so that high beam quality can be achieved even at high output powers.

  • A strong need to improve the quality of electric power is increased because of increasing use of the sensitive and small-sized electronic devices. The surges on the low-voltage ac power lines are induced by nearby lightning return strokes, and the facilities for HA, OA, FA, ME as well as computer are easily damaged by high-voltage transients. The behaviors of lightning surge characteristics transferred from the primary winding to the secondary winding in distribution transformers using a Marx generator were experimentally investigated. The transfer characteristics of lightning surge associated with a custom service ground of secondary side were also examined.

A Study on Wellness and Quality of Life Related With Demographic Characteristics

  • This study aimed to inquire the relationship among wellness, quality of life and socio-demographic variables in Korean middle school students. 'Korean Wellness Scale for Middle school students(K-WSM), Quality of Life Scale, and other socio-demographic data were surveyed to 1,200 students in national wide area. For the results, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation, and Multiple regression were conducted. With demographic variables, sex, religion, & academic achievement of students, social economic status(SES) and living with both of parents were positively related to wellness and quality of life. But grade and physical disease of student didn't show significant relationships. The relationship between wellness and quality of life showed high correlation (r=.66, p < .05). Among the wellness subscales, spiritual and social wellness showed significant predictive power. In the end, the contributions and limitations of this study were discussed.
