Design and Implementation of a DSP-Based Multi-Channel Power Measurement System

  • In order to improve energy efficiency and solve power disturbances, power components measurement for both the supply and demand side of a power system must be implemented before appropriate action on the power problems can be taken. This paper presents a DSP (Digital Signal Processor)-based multi-channel (voltage 8-channel and current 10-channel) power measurement system that can simultaneously measure and analyze power components for both supply and demand. Voltage 8-channel and current 10-channel measurement is made through voltage and current sensors connected to the developed system, and power components such as reactive power, power factor and harmonics are calculated and measured by the DSP. The measured data are stored in a personal computer (PC) and a commercial program is then used for measurement data analysis and display. After voltage and current measurement accuracy revision using YOKOGAWA 2558, the developed system was tested using a programmable ac power source. The test results showed the accuracy of the developed system to be about 0.3 percent. Also, a simultaneous measurement field test of the developed system was implemented by application to the supply and demand side of the three-phase power system.

  • 리튬이차전지의 수요가 소형 휴대용 전자기기에서 중대형 전기자동차와 에너지저장장치로 변화함에 따라, 요구되는 전지 특성도 크게 달라지고 있다. 10년 이상의 장기 신뢰성, 팩 수준의 안전성, 가격 경쟁력 확보 등 기존 소형 전지보다 크게 강화된 요구 조건뿐만 아니라, 고출력 특성도 함께 필요로 한다. 그런데, 출력을 측정하기 위해서는 전압과 전류가 동시에 측정 및 제어되어야 하기 때문에, 기존의 단위셀 용량 측정보다 훨씬 어렵다. 또한, 측정 방법의 선택뿐만 아니라 출력유지시간, 충전상태(State-of-Charge, SOC), Cut-off 조건, 측정온도 등의 측정 조건에 따라서도 그 측정값이 크게 달라지는 경향이 있다. 본 논문에서는 HPPC (Hybrid Pulse Power Characterization)법, J-pulse(Japan Electric Vehicle Association Standards, JEVS D 713)법, 정출력 측정법(Constant Power Measurement)의 측정 원리 및 실제 실험에 어떻게 적용해야 하는지 설명하고, HEV(Hybrid Electric Vehicle)용 단위셀을 이용해 출력법간 측정 결과를 비교 분석한다.

  • Electrical power system has very complexity problem that it is plan measurement system to achieve Harmonic State Estimation (HSE). This complexity problem depends on discord of necessary accuracy, certainty of noise that exist in data communication damage and converter, adaptability of network modification and minimum of expense size of system, estimated monitering. Also, quantity of available measurement equipment for harmonic measurement has been limited. Therefore, systematic method that choose measurement location for harmonic state estimation. This paper is that see proposed HSE that use Observability Analysis(OA) for harmonic state estimation of electrical power system. OA depends on measurement number, measurement location and measurement form here, it is analysis method that depend on network form and admittance of the system. OA used achieve harmonic state estimation that it is Applied to New Zealand electrical power system to prove validity of HSE algorithm that propose. This study result about harmonic state estimation of electrical power system displayed very economical and effective method by OA.

원자력발전소의 급수유량 측정에 대한 초음파유량계의 적용성 연구 (A Study on Applicability of Ultrasonic Flowmeter to Feedwater Flow Measurements in Nuclear Power Plants)

  • The measurement uncertainties of an ultrasonic flowmeter were analyzed to evaluate its applicability to the measurement of the steam generator feedwater flow-rate in a nuclear power plant. The analyses of measurement uncertainties of a reactor power were also performed with the analyses of feedwater flow measurement uncertainties. Two ultrasonic flowmeters based on a cross-correlation technique and a transit time method were used in this study. The ultrasonic flowmeters were installed on a feedwater pipe line of a typical 1000 MWe Korea-standardized nuclear power plant to take the necessary data. The results have shown that the measurement uncertainties of the ultrasonic flowmeters are adequately smaller than those or a venturi meter. The research has also indicated that the measurement uncertainties of the reactor power based on the ultrasonic flowmeter uncertainties are sufficiently bounded by the uncertainty range usually assumed in nuclear safety analyses.

바이패스 스위치와 저항센서를 이용한 저손실 전류 측정방법 (Low Power-loss Current Measurement Technique Using Resistive Sensor and Bypass Switch)

  • This paper proposes a low power-loss current measurement using a resistor and bypass switch. Conventional current sensing method using a resistor has a disadvantage of power loss which degrades the efficiency of the entire systems. On the other hand, proposed measurement technique operating with bypass-switch connected in parallel with sensing resistor can reduce power loss significantly the current sensor. The propose measurement works for discrete-time sampling of current sensing. Even while the analog-digital conversion does not occur at the controller, the sensing voltage across the sensor still causes ohmic conduction loss without information delivery. Hence, the bypass switch bypasses the sensing current with a small amount of power loss. In this paper, a 90[W] prototype hardware has been implemented for photovoltaic MPPT experimental verification of the proposed low power-loss current measurement technique. From the results, it can be seen that PV power observation is successfully done with the proposed method.

  • A Study of Improvement in Reactor Thermal Power Measurement Method using Kalman Filter. The objectives of the safety analysis of nuclear power plants are to maintain the surface temperature of fuel and fuel cladding within limit value in case of Loss of Coolant accident (LOCA) so that it ensures the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants. The new technique evaluating the reactor power and improvement of existing plant system increase the safety margin of nuclear power plant operation, and accordingly, economic effect will be anticipated. Hereby, 1 would like to introduce reactor power measurement method using Kalman filter that enables to calculate the reactor power more precisely combining the parameters, for example, turbine output as the 1 st stage pressure of high pressure turbine, and reactor power using energy equilibrium relation. It is expected that the new technique will enhance the accuracy of measurement of reactor power and maintain the reliability of nuclear power operation by increasing operational safety margin, and gain the economic benefit

Research of an On-Line Measurement Method for High-power IGBT Collector Current

  • The on-line measurement of high-power IGBT collector current is important for the hierarchical control and short-circuit and overcurrent protection of its driver and the sensorless control of the converter. The conventional on-line measurement methods for IGBT collector current are not suitable for engineering measurement due to their large-size, high-cost, low-efficiency sensors, current transformers or dividers, etc. Based on the gate driver, this paper has proposed a current measuring circuit for IGBT collector current. The circuit is used to conduct non-intervention on-line measurement of IGBT collector current by detecting the voltage drop of the IGBT power emitter and the auxiliary emitter terminals. A theoretical analysis verifies the feasibility of this circuit. The circuit adopts an operational amplifier for impedance isolation to prevent the measuring circuit from affecting the dynamic performance of the IGBT. Due to using the scheme for integration first and amplification afterwards, the difficult problem of achieving high accuracy in the transient-state and on-state measurement of the voltage between the terminals of IGBT power emitter and the auxiliary emitter (uEe) has been solved. This is impossible for a conventional detector. On this basis, the adoption of a two-stage operational amplifier can better meet the requirements of high bandwidth measurement under the conditions of a small signal with a large gain. Finally, various experiments have been carried out under the conditions of several typical loads (resistance-inductance load, resistance load and inductance load), different IGBT junction temperatures, soft short-circuits and hard short-circuits for the on-line measurement of IGBT collector current. This is aided by the capacitor voltage which is the integration result of the voltage uEe. The results show that the proposed method of measuring IGBT collector current is feasible and effective.

  • In real-time power system control, it is essential to measure the power system variables which are voltage. current, real and reactive power, power factor, system frequency and etc. this variables can be estimated or calculated by the synchronized phasor informations of voltage and current. Therefore, the synchronized phasor measurement of voltage and current is very important to real-time power system control. So, we develop SPMD(Synchronized Phasor Measurement Device) for synchronized phasor measurement of voltage and current. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of SPMD for real-time phasor measurement and prove its performance by the test results.

  • Power system is composed of a number of power devices and equipment. This factor affects the power quality is also displayed very complicated and varied. The accurate measurement and analysis of the causes of power quality problems is difficult. In preparing for these issues, there are many difficulties. In this study, Power quality of A public establishment of Chungbuk province were measured and analyzed. Measurement results of the fifth harmonic current was very large. Accordingly, the harmonic reduction will be needed. This research will be utilized as fundamental data to improve power quality for power utility and customer.

  • Non-linear loads are the sources of power systems harmonics, and the power quality is influenced by harmonics, Recently, the requirements of power quality is important. For the power quality problems. it is very important that the development of power measurement circuit for non-linear load. In this paper, it is discoursed on that high speed sampling circuit and efficient power analysis algorithms. The sampling circuit is implemented using FPGA. Since the power measurement circuit system is composed by FPGA and efficient power algorithms. it is practicable application that accurate power measurement, stable protection relaying, and low cost system configuring.
