  • The supercritical $CO_2$ Brayton cycle energy conversion system is presented as a promising alternative to the present Rankine cycle. The principal advantage of the S-$CO_2$ gas is a good efficiency at a modest temperature and a compact size of its components. The S-$CO_2$ Brayton cycle coupled to a SFR also excludes the possibilities of a SWR (Sodium-Water Reaction) which is a major safety-related event, so that the safety of a SFR can be improved. KAERI is conducting a feasibility study for the supercritical carbon dioxide (S-$CO_2$) Brayton cycle power conversion system coupled to KALIMER(Korea Advanced LIquid MEtal Reactor). The purpose of this research is to develop S-$CO_2$ Brayton cycle energy conversion systems and evaluate their performance when they are coupled to advanced nuclear reactor concepts of the type under investigation in the Generation IV Nuclear Energy Systems. This paper contains the research overview of the S-$CO_2$ Brayton cycle coupled to KALIMER-600 as an alternative energy conversion system.

V-band MMIC Downconverter 개발에 관한 연구 (High performance V-Band Downconverter Module)

  • GaAs pHEMT 기술로 V-band 수신단 각 MMIC 회로들을 설계 제작하였다. 또한 이를 집적하여 V-band downconverter module을 제작하였다. 제작된 downconverter는 24 dBm의 출력을 내는 LO 구동 전력 증폭기, 20dB의 소신호 이득을 가지는 저잡음증폭기, -1.6dBm의 출력을 내는 active parallel type의 발진기, 6 dB 이상의 변환이득 특성을 나타내는 cascode type의 혼합기로 구성되어 있다. 이처럼 혼합기의 우수한 변환이득 특성은 밀리미터파 대역에서 변환 이득 특성을 키우기 위해 반드시 필요한 거대한 IF buffer amplifier의 필요를 없애 주었다. 완성된 downconverter module의 측정결과 별도의 IF buffer amplifier없이 57.5 GHz와 61.7 GHz 사이에서 20 dB 이상의 높은 변환이득을 얻을 수 있었다.

  • This study is focused on developing a program which can edit different formats of power system data used by system operators PSS/E program, which has been widely used as a tool for power system analysis. Provides only a limited function of editing PSS/E input data. Considering that more and more power system analysers will be developed and applied for power system planning and operation in the near future, unified handling of multi-types of power system data format, such as conversion of one input data format into another, is indispensible. In this paper, a new power system data editor, functionally augmented from PSS/E editor, is introduced. The new editing program was developed in GUI environment for users to conveniently edit input data for EUROSTAG program without running several editors. Considerable savings in time and manpower are expected.

Performance Improvement of the Linear BLDC Generator in a NASA Deep Space Explorer

  • This paper presents methods to improve performance of the power supply system in a NASA deep space explorer. In the Stirling engine driven reciprocating Brushless DC (BLDC) generator, the accurate position information of the prime mover is important to diagnose the performance of the engine and prevent distortion of the output power. Since sensors to detect the position are fragile and unreliable, and conventional sensorless techniques have drawbacks in the low speed region, a novel sensorless position detection technique for the prime mover has been proposed and verified. Another major issue of the generator for the spacecraft is power density maximization. The mass of the power system is important to the mass of the satellite. Therefore, the components of the spacecraft should be lightweight. Conventional rectification methods cannot achieve the maximum power possible due to non-optimal current waveforms. The optimal current waveform for maximizing power density and minimizing machine size and weight in a nonsinusoidal power supply system has been derived, incorporated in a control system, and verified by simulation work.

  • 온실가스 및 대기오염물질 배출 규제는 고효율 및 친환경에 적합한 새로운 선박용 동력장치의 필요성을 제기하고 있다. 최근 이와 같은 문제들을 근본적으로 해결하기 위한 지속가능한 방법으로서 연료전지를 선박의 동력발생장치로 도입하고자 하는 검토가 진행되고 있다. 본 논문은 선박용 연료전지시스템에 사용될 수 있는 최적의 연료를 파악하기 위하여 다양한 탄화수소계 및 알코올계 연료의 수증기 개질특성을 열역학적으로 검토하고 있다.

  • This paper presents a power supply of railway signal system using a Z-source inverter. The Z-source inverter overcomes the conceptual and theoretical barriers and limitations of the tradition voltage-source inverter and current-source inverter and provides novel power conversion concept. The Z-source inverter is a Buck-Boost inverter that has a wide range of obtainable voltage.

  • A RF-DC converter is one of the most important components for a wireless power transmission. It has been developed for many applications such as space solar power system, and Radio Frequency Identification(RFID). In this paper, we designed three types of RF-DC converter and compare the performance of each. All types RF-DC convertoer have a maximum conversion efficiency at input power level of 0 dBm~5 dBm and RF-DC converter of third type was the best performance that has a 21.9% of conversion efficiency.

  • In this paper, we propose the battery charging device for electric bicycle using photovoltaic power. DC voltage from the solar cells is low, it needs to be step-up by the power conversion device. The power conversion device applied to this paper is phase-shift full-bridge converter. This converter steps-up from 12${\sim}$22[Vdc] to 36[Vdc] for charging the battery of electric bicycle. Phase-shift full-bridge converter(PSFB) can obtain twice as much DC voltage compared with half-bridge converter, thus it has lower current stress less than half-bridge converter. It is simulated and tested the battery charging device using photovoltaic power.

  • The growth in IT industry has brought a corresponding rise in the number of connected digital devices in the distribution network. These digital loads lead to AC to DC conversion losses in order to supply power to them. The more the renewable energies and plug-in electrical vehicles penetrated our lives, the more the electrical losses are caused by AC to DC conversion process. Hence, this paper suggests the methodology for evaluating the amount of power supplied according to the ratio of DC power supply and performs an economic analysis of DC distribution system considering grid parity. In here, the cost of carbon emission reduced by renewable energy is also concerned.

  • PMCR은 600MWe CANDU-PHW의 지역 과출력 제어 계통의 일환으로 발전소 내에 설치된 computer를 이용하여 off-line으로 계산을 수행한다 이 프로그램은 계산된 중성자속 분포로부터 연료 연소도를 고려한 출력 분포를 계산하여 정확한 channel 출력 분포를 얻는다. PMCR은 따라서 발전소의 제어 프로그램과 별도로 연료 연소도를 계산한다. 이 논문에서는 기존의 균일 중성자속-출력 전환법을 이용한 계산결과와 비교하여 PMCR이 매우 정확한 출력 분포를 얻고 있음을 보여 준다.
