  • Purpose: The selective laser melting (SLM) process for dentistry, which is one of the additive manufacturing technologies (AM) allows for rapid production of a three-dimensional model with complex shape by directly melting metal powder. This process generates detailed items of a three-dimensional model shape through consolidation of a thin powder layer by utilizing both selective melting and laser beam simultaneously. In regard to SLM process, Fe-base powder, Ti-6AI-4V powder, AI-base powder, etc. have been researched. It is believed that the aforementioned technologies will be widely utilized in manufacturing metal parts using metal powder of raw material. This study chose Ni-Cr-Mo metal powder in order to manufacture metal powder materials that would be used in the selective laser melting for dentistry. Methods: This study manufactured metal powder using mechanical alloying technique (MA) among those metal powder manufacturing techniques. Moreover, this study aimed to utilize the metal powder manufactured after observing the characteristics of powder as preliminary data of Ni-Cr-Mo metal powder. This study could obtain the following conclusions within the experimental limitations. Results: As a result of mechanically alloying Ni-Cr-Mo powder over time, its mean particle size was $66.93{\mu}m$ $54.4{\mu}m$ and $45.39{\mu}m$ at 10h, 20h and 30h, respectively. The gtain form of metal powder by mechanical alloying technique was a sponge-like shape of irregular plate; however, the gtain form manufactured by high-pressure water aromization process had the following three types: globular type, chain type and oval type. Conclusion: This study found $37.65{\mu}m$ as the mean particle size of Ni-Cr-Mo metal powder, which was manufactured using water atomization technique under the following conditions: water atomization flux of 300 liter/min, hydraulic pressure of $400kgf/cm^2$ and injection angle of $45^{\circ}$. This study confirmed that the grain form of powder (solid particle form) would vary depending on the manufacturing process.

  • Glibenclamide is a second generation sulfonylurea that is orally active as a hypoglycemic drug. It exists as a crystalline powder which is sparingly soluble in water. It was investigated that the potential of glibenclamide to exhibit polymorphism. Three polymorphic modifications (form 1, form 2 and form 3) and three pseudopolymorphic modifications (form 4, form 5 and form 6) were obtained by crystallization from different organic solvents. The isolated crystal forms were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and X-ray crystallography powder diffraction studies. Form 1 was the most stable and melt at $175.4^{\circ}C$. Form 2 was metastable and melt at $151.0^{\circ}C$. Form 3 was a new polymorphic modification because it was different from form 1 and form 2 in X-ray crystallography powder diffraction data. Form 4 was a 1 : 7(toluene : glibenclamide) toluene solvate; form 5 was a 1 : 5(toluene : glibenclamide) toluene solvate; form 6 was a 3 : 8(pentanol : glibenclamide) pentanol solvate. All forms were stable in 3-month storage under 0% or 100% humidity condition. The dissolution rate of form 4 was highest; those of form 2, form 3, form 1, form 5 and form 6 followed.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influences on mechanical properties of motor pistons manufactured by casting, conventional forging and powder forging, using the comparison of characteristics like microstructure, hardness, tensile strength, and elongation. To form conventional forging piston, the experiment of visioplasticity was performed. As the model material, plasticine was used. To form powder forging piston, the shape of piston was simplified as simple cup shape. Material properties like workability, density variation before and after forging, and strain loci of material during forging were investigated. Powder forging and conventional forging technologies were effective to gain dense microstructure. In powder forging, distribution of such dense microstructuer was uniform. For hardness, pistons from powder forging and conventional forging technologies were much better than that from casting. For tensile strength and elongation, powder forging and conventional forging technologies were also advantageous.

  • Four crystal forms of ketorolac have been obtained by recrystallization in organic solvents under variable conditions. Different ketorolac polymorphs and pseudo polymorph were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction crystallography (XRD), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). In the dissolution studies in water at $37{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$ four crystal forms showed different patterns. The solubility of Form I were the highest. The solubility decreased in rank order: Form I> Form II > Form III > Form IV. Form land Form III were shown to have a good physical stability at room temperature for 60 days. However, Form II is converted to Form III and Form IV is converted to Form I after 60 days storage. Therefore, these observations indicate that crystalline polymorphism for ketorolac is readily inter-convertible and the relationship may have to taken into consideration in the formulation of the drug.

  • In this study, nano-sized cobalt oxide powder with an average particle size below 50 nm was prepared from a cobalt chloride solution by the spray pyrolysis process. The influences of reaction temperature on the properties of the generated powder were examined. The average particle size of the particles formed based on the spray pyrolysis process at a reaction temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ is roughly 20 nm. Moreover, most of these particles cannot appear with an independent type, thereby coexisting in a droplet type. When the reaction temperature increases to $800^{\circ}C$, the average particle size not only increases to roughly 40 nm but also shows a more dense structure while the ratio of particles which shows a polygonal form significantly increases. As the reaction temperature increases to $900^{\circ}C$, the distribution of the particles is from roughly 70 nm to 100 nm, while most of the particle surface is more intricately close and forms a polygonal shape. When the reaction temperature increases to $1000^{\circ}C$, the particle size distribution of the powder shows an existing form from 80 nm to at least 150 nm in an uneven form. As the reaction temperature increases, the XRD peak intensity gradually increases, yet the specific surface area gradually decreases.

  • Prescription filling in powder form is performed in community pharmacy practice to adjust dose for children and patients who cannot swallow whole tablet. However, there are few reports regarding the stability of the active ingredient and possible microbial growth after the medication is dispensed to powder form. This study examined the stability of atenolol, an antihypertensive agent, and microbial growth in the unit dose pouches dispensed at twenty-one community pharmacies located in Taegu area. Randomly chosen first unit dose pouch contained 77.4% of the prescribed dose of the drug and there were only four community pharmacies that dispensed the drug within 10% deviation from the dose prescribed by physician. Surprisingly, there were three community pharmacies that dispensed the drug with greater than 40% deviation, which may pose a major concern regarding the efficacy and safety of the drug prescribed for the treatment of hypertension. Atenolol content during a month did not indicate significant change, showing 5.4%, 4.3%, and 3.3% of decrease in 50%, 80%, and 90% relative humidity conditions, respectively. Microbiological examination during a month showed less than 0.5 microorganism in high power field (hpf) in all the relative humidity conditions tested. Based on this study, pharmacy practice in community pharmacy needs to be rigorously regulated to ensure that the dose of the prescribed drug is properly incorporated into the unit dose pouch dispensed as powder form.

  • It is well recognized that physicochemical properties of drugs are affected by the type of polymorphic crystalline form of drugs. Clarithromycin is known to exist in at least three polymorphic crystalline forms. Since conventional means to obtain the most thermodynamically stable form (Form II) for the antibiotics is known to be associated with a low purity of the stable form, we developed a novel method to improve the purity of the crystalline form by a modification of the preparation process. The new method involved a simple recrystallization of clarithromycin in solvents having 5-12 carbon atoms (e.g., hexane and heptane) or ethers with 4-10 carbon atoms (e.g., isopropyl ether) and, thus, less likely to be associated with the problem in purity of resulting crystal. Differential scanning calorimetry and powder X-ray diffraction were used to compare the crystalline form of the resultant powder with Form IIcrystal prepared by the conventional method. The crystal prepared by the new method was identical to Form IIcrystal of the conventional method as evidenced by the lack of the exothermic peak near 11$0^{\circ}C$ in differential calorimetry scan, indicating that Form IIcrystal could be readily prepared by the new process. Therefore, these data indicated that the improvement in the purity of the Form IIcrystal for clarithromycin as well as a significant cost reduction is likely by the novel method.

  • Generally, liquid radioactive wastes generated in nuclear power plant exist in powder form which do not contain moisture through the evaporating process of the Liquid Waste Management System and drying process of the Concentrated Waste Drying System. This powder form wastes are blended homogeneously with paraffin solidification agent and packed in metal drum to ensure its stability during handling and disposal. However, it was experienced that the powder form wastes were not blended homogeneously and separated into two layers in metal drum, on the other hand, a Portion of powder was adhered and solidified to the Inside parts of facility during the blending process. And the flaw of blending process above would come in case the mole ratio of Boron to Sodium in liquid radioactive wastes exceeds 0.2.
