Bioremediation of bacterial algae is one of wastewater treatment by utilizing symbiosis of bacterial algae, which is relatively inexpensive and safe for the environment. The aims of this research were: (1) to investigate initial characteristic of boezem water of Kalidami Surabaya, (2) to investigate the effect of potassium (K) element and carbon source addition toward the reduction of $NH_3-N$ content and organic matter in $KMnO_4$ of boezem water. The research conducted in a laboratory in batches without adding aeration. The initial stage of this research was conducting alga culture until it was obtained chlorophyll-a algae concentration of $3.5{\pm}0.5mg/L$. The best result of range finding test was a comparison of boezem water volume with algal which were about 25%:75%. The research conducted in duplo over 18 d. The result of the research can be concluded that boezem water of Kalidami Surabaya for the parameter of pH, temperature, $NH_3-N$, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand, biological oxygen demand, and number of $KMnO_4$ show that it enables to do bioremediation of bacterial algae. Decrease efficiency occurred in a reactor with the addition of element K 3% and source C. $NH_3-N$ and $KMnO_4$ final content 0.164 mg/L and 30 mg/L, respectively.
The agglomeration characteristics of coal and silica sand were investigated under various conditions using mixed samples consisting of coal, silica sand, and potassium hydroxide, which is an agglomeration accelerator. The samples were prepared by either physically mixing or using aqueous solutions. The experiments using the physically mixed powder samples were performed with a two hour reaction time. The results showed that the number of aggregates generated increased as the reaction temperature and the total potassium content increased. The experiments using aqueous solutions were performed at 880 ℃, which is the operating temperature of a fluidized bed boiler, and at 980 ℃, which assumes a local hot spot. The amount of agglomeration generated as the reaction time increased and the total potassium content increased was identified. In the experiment performed at 880 ℃, the amount of aggregate generated clearly increased with the reaction time, and in the experiment performed at 980 ℃, assuming a local hot spot, a large amount of aggregate was generated in a relatively short time. The aggregates became harder as the potassium content increased. When the total potassium content was less than 1.37 wt.%, the aggregates were weak at both temperatures and collapsed even with a slight impact. Additionally, the surface characteristics of the silica sand and ash aggregates were observed by SEM-EDS analysis. The analysis revealed a large amount of potassium at the bonding sites. This result indicates that there is a high possibility of aggregation in the form of a eutectic compound when the alkali component is increased.
In this study, we investigated the induced defense response and protective effects against Stemphylium vesicarium by application of benzothiadiazole ($Bion^{(R)}$) and di-potassium phosphate salt $(K_2HPO_4)$ to onion. Onion leaves were sprayed with $Bion^{(R)}$ and $K_2HPO_4$, then inoculated 2 days later with a virulent strain of S. vesicarium under greenhouse conditions. Disease severity and activities of peroxidase (PO), polyphenoloxidase, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) and phenol contents were evaluated in the treated leaf tissues. Reduction in the disease severity was observed in plants treated with $Bion^{(R)}$ and $K_2HPO_4$. Onion plants treated with $Bion^{(R)}$ and $K_2HPO_4$ and inoculated with the pathogen showed significantly higher PAL activity, PO activity, and phenol contents than inoculated water-treated plants 2 days after the treatment. In conclusion, the results of this study provide evidence that application of simple non-toxic chemical solutions as di-potassium phosphate and $Bion^{(R)}$ can control Stemphylium leaf blight of onion.
This study was inducted to investigate the effects of microbial fertilizers on the fields of young radish(Raphanus sativus L.), chemical components of plant and soil, and the microbial floras. Six microbial fertilizers, MPK+Husk+Palma, Husk+Palma, MPK+Compost, Compost, BIO Livestock Clean System(BLCS) cattle dropping, and Tomi were used. The yields of young radish were increased in six microbial fertilizer treatments. The fresh matter weight, the number of leaves, and the dry matter weight of young radish in BLCS cattle dropping treatment, the leaf length in MPK+Husk+Palma treatment, the sugar content in Husk+Palma treatment, arid the leaf width in Tomi treatment showed the highest amount, respectively. The effects of microbial fertilizers on chemical characteristics of young radish and soil were examined. Phosphoric acid amount of young radish in Tomi treatment was much higher than other treatments. Potassium amount of young radish showed high significance in all microbial fertilizer treatments compared with control, and shoved the highest in Compost treatment . Two components, phosphoric acid find potassium, in soil inoculated by microbial fertilizers showed significant. Phosphoric acid in the Tomi treatment and Potassium in Husk+Palma treatment were increased. The microorganic populations in soil inoculated with microbial fertilizers were examined. While the number of Bacillus in ceil was increased in MPK+Husk+Palma treatment, the numbers of total bacteria, actinomycetes, and fungi were increased in Tomi treatment.
This study was carried out to understand the seasonal changes in mineral contents of mulberry trees. The shoot barks and the leaves of three mulberry varieties(Kaeryangppong, Shinilppon, Yongcheonppong) were analyzed every 10 days during the year from January to December of 1993, Phosphorus content of the shoot barks and leaves gradually decreased until October in three varieties and increased thereafter. Especially, that of Yongcheonppong decreased 0.18% from 1.33% in January to 1.15% in October. Potassium content of the shoot barks increased 0.7~1.1% from April to August but decreased 0.7~0.9% during winter. That of leaves increased from May to October. Magnesium content of the shoot barks increased until August but decreased after then. And it increased again after October. That of the leaves decreased from May to October. Calcium content of the shoot barks decreased 0.4~0.6% from January to September but increased 0.1~0.4% from October. That of the leaves increased from May to October.
Investigation was made to know the effects of the time of transplanting and harvesting, fertilizer, soil texture and period of storage on tuber yield and starch content of sweet potato. Variety used was Shin-mi, one or the leading varieties in Korea. Late transplanting, early harvesting, and balanced application of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, and loam and coarse sandy loam were more effective in increasing starch content than early planting, late harvesting, and more application of potassium and none application of phosphorous, and light clay respectively. Long storage period resulted in reducing starch content.

The saltiness of emulsion-type sausage of the substitution NaCl with sodium citrate were higher than those of control and the other(P<0.05). The flavor of emulsion-type sausage of the substitution NaCl with calcium ascorbate were higher than those of control(P<0.05).
In order to gain information on the plant characteristics of high yielding paddy from the point of view of mineral nutrition and to learn more about soil conditions under which high yields are produced a number of soil samples collected from the field experiment carried out in The City College of Seoul were analysed. In addition, a laboratory experiment carried out to support the field experiment was also analysed. Results obtained are as follows: 1. Generally, the higher the yield of paddy, the higher is the potassium content in flag leaves, whereas the reverse is true for the content of Ca and Mg in the leaves. From these facts it can conceivably be said that the high yielding paddy should absorb a large quantity of potassium and a lesser quantity of calcium and magnesium in the reproductive stage. 2. Leaves of paddy which produced yields over 600kg/10a (a comparatively high yield in the experiment) contained 30-35mg/100g of potassium, less than 25me/100g of calcium, and 10me/100g of magnesium which brings the ratio of $K/{\sqrt{Ca+Mg}}$ over 5. 3. Correlation studies indicated a remarkable relationship between the paddy yield and exchangeable potassium in soil samples taken after harvesting. A similar relationship was observed between the yield of paddy and $K/{\sqrt{Cae+Mge}}$ ratio of the soil samples. 4. A regression between yield of padcy (Y) and exchangeable potassium (Ke) or $K/{\sqrt{Ca+Mg}}$ in soil samples taken after harvesting was shown to be; Y=183.95+2135.86Ke $$Y=352.45+3114.454\;K/{\sqrt{Ca+Mg}}$$ 5. The regression between exchangeable potassium (Ke) in soil samples taken after harvesting and the amount of lime (L) and potassium (P) to be applied is; $$Ke=0.1246+0.00007037L+0.004444P+0.000004444L{\cdot}P$$.
In the present research to evalulate the chemical composition of wool under Korean feeding conditions have been investicated. The experiment was designed two treatments (washed and non-washed wool) and devided inner and outer side wool each treatment. The criteria for evaluation of wool with chemical composition were protein, fat, ash, amino acid and mineral content. The results which were obtained as follows: 1. Average protein content of non-washed and washed wool were 76.05% and 92.31%, respectively. However it was not different in protein content between inner and outer side wool. 2. Average fat content of non-washed and washed wool were 12.43% and 5.77%, respectively. However inner side wool was more fat content than outer side wool. 3. Average ash content of non-washed and washed wool were 10.50% and 0.90%, respectively. However inner side wool was less ash content than outer side wool. 4. Amino acid composition was not different between inner side and outer side wool. However lysine, arginine, proline, and glycine content of inner side wool were higher than those of outer side wool. 5. Mineral content of non -washed wool were higher than those of washed wool. Potassium content of non-washed wool was very high compare with that of washed wool.
A field experiment was conducted in order to secure the basic information on the rational application of nitrogen and potassium for autumn growing Chinese cabbage (Brassica campastris ssp. pekinensis, var.; Miho 70 days). The results of the experiment are summarized as follows: 1. Potassium effect was observed where nitrogen applied either less than 15kg N/10a and heavy dose of 25kg N/10a. No potassium effect was observed where 20kg N/10a applied. In the case of 25kg N/10a, potassium effect was observed only in total weight but failed yield marketable product weighing over 1 kilogram per cabbage. 2. Nitrogen application, in general, tends to lower the soil pH and it is particularly true when heavy dose of over 20kg N/10a is applied. As a result, Chinese cabbage has increasingly removed soil born potassium and reduced exchangeable potassium content of the soil. 3. Oven dried cabbage which received 25kg N/10a plus potassium showed a low concentration of calcium and this phenomena seems to be attributable to the acidification of soils and it further caused failure in producing cabbages of marketing value.
