  • Since bovine leukosis caused considerable economic loss to the dairy industry, seroepidemiologi-cal survey on bovine leukosis was carried out for the dairy herds in Kyunggi province. 1. When compared the results of immunodifussion test with those of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) for 94 dairy herds sera, the relationship between the immunodifussion test and ELISA were showen high corresponding rate with sensitivity(97.5%) and specificity(92.6%). 2. In immunodiffusion test for bovine leukosis virus (BLV) antibody in 570 dairy cattle from 30 herds, mean positive rate for BLV antibody was 28.2%. The positive rate by districts were 16.5% in central, 35.4% in east, 17.3% in west, 29.1% in south, 31.6% in north, 43.7% in northeast. 3. When the results of serological studies was analyzed by age groups, the number of positive was increased gradually with the advanced in age of herds. The highest positive rate was found in the age over 6 years. 4. Of 30 dairy herds examined, 5 herds(16.7%) have no reactions against BLV antigen while 15 herds (50%) showed the range of 1∼5 positive cattle and 5 herds(16.7%), the rang of over 11 positive cattle.

  • Purpose - Low fertility rate is a serious problem, and this study analyzes factors affecting total fertility rate using panel data from 16 metropolitan cities and provinces in Korea from 2000 to 2022. Design/methodology/approach - Estimating the SAR model considering the weak cross-sectional dependence that exists in variables related to the regional total fertility rate, and using the DKSE estimation method considering the strong cross-sectional dependence. Findings - Estimation results considering weak and strong cross-sectional dependence were similar, confirming the robustness of the results. Female labor force participation rate has a positive effect on total fertility rate, and employment rate has no effect. However, the interaction term is a negative (-) sign. Crude marriage rate has a positive effect on total fertility rate, and apartment price has a slightly positive effect. Environmental factor has no effect, and policy factor has a negative effect. Research implications or Originality - In order for an increase in the female labor force participation rate to lead to an increase in the total fertility rate, qualitative improvements in female employment must be made. Financial investment policies for childbirth must increase their effectiveness. The problem of low fertility rate requires not only population policy but also social, economic, cultural, environmental, and policy conditions to be considered.

  • We consider the iterative solution of a quadratic matrix equation with special coefficient matrices which arises in the quasibirth and death problem. In this paper, we show that the elementwise minimal positive solvent of the quadratic matrix equations can be obtained using Newton's method if there exists a positive solvent and the convergence rate of the Newton iteration is quadratic if the Fr$\acute{e}$chet derivative at the elementwise minimal positive solvent is nonsingular. Although the Fr$\acute{e}$chet derivative is singular, the convergence rate is at least linear. Numerical experiments of the convergence rate are given.

  • The two-dimensional confusion matrix used in credit assessment, biostatistics, and many other fields consists of true positive, true negative, false positive, and false negative. Their rates, such as the true positive rate (TPR), true negative rate (TNR), false positive rate, and false negative rate, can be applied to measure its accuracy. In this study, we propose the TPR-TNR plot, a graphical method that can geometrically describe and explain these rates based on the confusion matrix. The proposed TPR-TNR plot consists of two right-angled triangles. We obtain that the TPR and TNR describe the acute angles of right-angled triangles in the plot. These acute angles can be used to determine optimal thresholds corresponding to lots of accuracy measures.

  • This paper provides some properties of positive real systems in time domain. It is well-known that a positive real system and a bounded real system are closely related by bilinear transform in a frequency domain. By using supply rate and storage function, we show that a positive real system can be transformed into a bounded real system, and that a positive real system can be transformed into another positive real system with in a time domain. Also, we show that an ESPR(extended strictly positive real) system can be decomposed into a feedback system of lossless positive real system and another ESPR system. These results may be used to design an output feedback controller for mixed H$H_2$ESPR problem.

  • A total of 2,026 leprosy patients of the National Sorokdo Hospital was examined their infestparasites by cellophane thick smear method in January, 1983. The egg positive cases of Taenia spp. were treated with bithionol and the segments of Taenia were collected for species identification. The results were as follows: 1. Total egg Positive rate of any kind helminth was 78.2% and cumulative total was 85.2%. The egg positive rate for each helminth was as follow; Taenia spp. 3.4%, Ascaris lumbricoides 4.5%, Trichuris trichiura 72.1%, Clonorchis sinensis 2.8% and other 0.05%. 2. A total of 66 Taenia eggpPositive cases was treated; out of them proglottids of Taenia were collected from 26 cases. All of the collected worms were identified as T. saginata. The results revealed signiBicantly high egg positive rate of T. trichiura. However, A. lumbricoides was found to be controlled considerably by repeated chemotherapy during past 3 years. If chromotherapeutic agent is replaced with oxantel-pyrantel tablet, better result is expected. No clue was found for prevalence of T. sodium from both human and the pig in the island.

  • In this experiment, we studied the sero-positive rate of akabane virus in cattle from Jeju-do and analyzed the seroepidemiological features. In an analysis of 1,051 samples, the positive rate for neutralizing antibody in sera collected in nine regions on Jeju-do was 56.7%. The rate varied with the region. The positive rate was 69.6% in Aewol, 63.1% in Jeju city, 54.4% in Anduck, 51.0% in Hallim, 69.8% in Jocheun, 47.6% in Pyosun, 40% in Daejeong, 30.0% in Harkyung, 71.6% in Namwon, 24.5% in Sungsan, 133.,3% in Seokypo and 44.5% in Gujwa, respectively The rate also depended on the age of the cattle. The positive rate was 67.2% in calves 0- to 12-month old, 48.3% in cattle 13- to 24-month old, 65.4% in cattle 25- to 36-month old, and 65.4% in cattle more than ,B7 months old. To isolate the virus from calves with malformations including arthrogryposis and hydranencephaly, cerebral homogenates were inoculated into Vero cells, which were determined for cytopathic effect (CPE). Vero cells with CPE were examined for Akabane virus using an electron microscope (EM) and indirect immunofluorescent antibody test (EM). Typical virus particles with a width of 90-130nm and specific immunofluorescence in the cytoplasm of infected cells were sought for identification.

  • This study describes (1) the impact of positive sampling artifacts caused by not only a filter-based sampling, but also a denuder-based sampling in the determination of particle-phase organic carbon (POC), (2) the effect of sample flow rate on positive artifacts, and (3) an optimum flow rate that provides a minimized negative sampling artifact for the denuder-based sampling method. To achieve the goals of this study, four different sampling media combinations were employed: (1) Quartz filter-alone (Q-alone), (2) quartz filter behind quartz-fiber filter (QBQ), (3) quartz filter and quartz filter behind Teflon filter (Q-QBT), and (4) quartz filter behind carbon-based denuder (Denuder-Q). The measurement of ambient POC was carried out in an urban area. In addition, to determine gas-phase OC (GOC) removal efficiency of the denuder, a Teflon filter and a quartz filter were deployed upstream and downstream of the denuder, respectively with varying sample flow rates: 5, 10, 20, and 30 LPM. It was found that Q-alone sampling configuration showed a higher POC than QBQ, Q-QBT, and Denuder-Q by 12%, 28%, and 23%, respectively at a sample flow rate of 20 LPM due to no correction for positive artifact caused by adsorption of GOC onto the filter. A lower quantity of GOC was collected from the backup quartz filter on QBQ than that from Q-QBT. This was because GOC was not in equilibrium with that adsorbed on the front quartz filter of QBQ during the sampling period. It is observed that the loss of particle number and mass across the denuder increases with decreasing sample flow rate. The contribution o f positive arti facts to POC decreased with increasing sample flow rate, showing 29%, 25%, and 22% for 10, 20, and 30 LPM, respectively. The 20 LPM turns out to be the optimum sample flow rate for both filter and denuder-based POC sampling.
