The use of tugboats for the safe berthing/unberthing of ships is the most crucial factor in the safe and efficient operation of the harbor. However, the adequate number and size of tugboats that should be held based on the characteristics of the port have not been investigated in detail, which causes disputes between involved parties. Therefore, the suitable number of tugboats and the ratio of the tugboat horsepower were determined in this study using simulation techniques, with focus on Ulsan Port. First, the ship and tugboat-operating models were designed for simulation application. Next, the input variables defined in the model design were standardized in an inputtable form using ARENA software. In addition, the arrival and division process of the ship was designed and simulated as an ARENA model. Finally, the simulation results for six scenarios showed that an effective tugboat operation could be achieved when 42 tugboats were held at Ulsan Port.
This study examines the impact of the changes to the port logistics before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, the study focuses on analyzing the changes to Korea's container ports network. Furthermore, this study examines the influence of the ports in the container port network before and after the COVID-19 Pandemic using the network analysis method such as centrality indexes (degree centrality, closeness centrality, and betweenness centrality) to identify changes in the structure and properties of the networks between 2018 and 2021. In this study, We analyzes the changes in the container port networks of Busan, Gwangyang, Incheon, Ulsan, and Pyeongtaek-Dangjin, the five largest ports in Korea. As a result, in case of the Busan port, Singapore port plays an important role, while Busan port plays key roles in ports of Gwangyang, Incheon, and Ulsan. In case of the Gwangyang port, Port Kelang in Malaysia has become increasingly influential as a result of the Malaysian government's policies to overcome the pandemic. In the Incheon port, Japanese ports are playing intermediary roles between their ports and those in the Incheon port network. In the case of Ulsan port, the influence of Korean ports is high, and in the case of Pyeongtaek-Dangjin port, Southeast Asian ports play a role as intermediaries between ports. By analyzing the changes in Korea's port logistics networks, this study can be used as a reference point when responding to uncertainty situations that cause changes to port logistics, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, in the future.

As vessels become larger and competition between ports intensifies, there has been an increase in the number of cases where vessels that exceed the available berths are berthed at the pier. Therefore, there has been an increase in the number of cases in which the bow or stern of a ship is projected and moored. The risk of overhanging berthing is that mooring safety can be compromised because it is not possible to connect the bow and stern mooring line to the ship properly. In addition, collision accidents may occur between moving vessels if the view of a vessel moving in the port is obstructed. Therefore, in this study, the simulation of mooring safety was performed according to the overhanging range in Piers No. 6 and 7 in Ulsan's main port to propose the overhanging limit and operational standards according to each ship. As a result of the assessment, 30,000 DWT bulkers are able to overhang up to 0.75B, and 50,000 DWT bulkers can overhang up to 0.50B. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data for setting the allowable overhang limit, as well as clear usage criteria for safe unloading operations.
Recently, air pollution from the marine ports has become a serious issue all over the world. Because marine trade accounts for 99.7% of Korea's trade, efforts are required to recognize the level of port pollution and establish environmental policies. This study estimates air pollution emitted during the berthing process in the Gwangyang and Ulsan ports. Data on ship activity and characteristics are collected and reasonable methodologies and factors from EEA and EPA are adopted. The results show that 253.09 tons of CO, 1986.61 tons of NOx, 684.01 tons of SOx, 47.88 tons of $PM_{10}$, and 44.69 tons of $PM_{2.5}$ are emitted at the Gwangyang port. Further, the Ulsan port emitted 212.28 tons of CO, 1712.54 tons of NOx, 573.72 tons of SOx, 40.16 tons of $PM_{10}$, and 37.48 tons of $PM_{2.5}$. A stage-by-stage plan for installing AMP infrastructure is suggested as part of a green port policy. This research provides the current pollution status and contributes guidelines for the direction of future policy.
The phase sensitivity of the coincidence detection in one output port of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer is analysed for twin Fock state inputs. Firstly, the ideal detectors with quantum efficiency of unity are assumed for the detection of the output photons. The sensitivity is found out to be independent of the photon number of input light, which means that the Heisenberg limit cannot be reached in the coincidence detection even with ideal detectors. Secondly, the practical detectors with quantum efficiencies less than unity are discussed.
According to the Marine Traffic Safety Law, revised in 2009, Marine Traffic Safety Audit is introduced to secure the safe navigation, to prevent the marine accident and to maximize the efficiency of the port. In this audit system, marine traffic safety assessment is the most important scheme because the primary purpose of the audit system is to identify potential risk elements affecting safe navigation. Even though the reliability of audit result depends on the selection of assessment models, there are no independent assessment models for Korean coastal waters and most of models used in Korea currently are developed by foreign countries. Therefore, the development of the independent assessment model for Korean coastal water is required. This study, prior to the development of independent assessment model, aims to provide a basic data by comparing two foreign assessment models in Ulsan port area with marine accident statistics data.

We have experienced five cases of atrial septal defect closure under complete port access using the da Vinci system. We used only six 8∼12 mm ports without thoracotomy or sternotomy for operation.
Ulsan pilotage is one of the most busy pilots boarding among the korean pilotages. The route layout of ulsan port is simple but the complex degree of marine traffic flow is high because there are many navigating ships from/to piers and anchorages nearby route. So, this paper is surveyed and analysised the navigating dangerous factors as to navigation danger elements in/near the route, the proper distance between piers at the ulsan waterways. And this research assures the same place where shiphandling bunder is occurred to compare the danger sense of pilot with environment stress to represented the mariner's shiphandling stress quantitatively at the ulsan route.

With the development of the 4th industrial revolution technology, smartization in various fields is accelerating. The shipping and logistics industry is also promoting smartization by combining advanced new technologies such as digital twin, Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence. In Korea, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is promoting a strategy to spread the smart shipping logistics system in line with the changing global shipping logistics trend, and through this, it is creating a foundation for smart shipping logistics. This study aims to present the concept of a communication tool that recognizes the importance of communication between each logistics entity and exchanges opinions between logistics entities in a virtual digital twin environment to cope with the changing shipping logistics process. In addition, for the development of these communication tools, this study derive a software design model, including architecture.
Environmental problems and safety problems in coastal area is one of the most important factors for designing coastal structures and maintaining facilities in coastal zone. And thus study on Wave transformation around coastal area is very important to develope a new port or on industrial area. Delft 3D-WAVE is applied to Ulsan new port area and the culculated results are analysed and compared with measured data Delft 3D-wave module is based on SWAN model which considers wave shoaling and refraction for irregular wave. This module also covers wind effect, bottom friction. white-capping and wave breaking effect. The results of this study show a good agreement with measured data and thus Delft 3D-WAVE module can be applied to simulate irregular wave transformation in coastal area.
