  • In an effort to gain competitiveness, recently many companies are trying to outsource their logistics activities to the logistics specialists, while concentrating on their core and strategic business area. Because of this trend, the third party logistics comes to the fore, catching people's attention, and expanding its market rapidly. Under these circumstances, the third party logistics companies are making every effort to improve their logistics services and to develop an information system in order to enhance their competitiveness. In particular, among these efforts one of the critical parts is the decision support system for effective transportation network planning. To this end, this study has developed an efficient decision support system for an optimal transportation network planning by comprehensively considering the transportation mode, routing, assignment, and schedule. As a result of this study, the new system enables the expansion of the third party logistics companies' services including the multimodal transportation, not to mention one mode of transportation, and also gets them ready to plan an international transportation network.

  • As competition increases among ports, new marketing strategies and differentiated means in addition to the existing core services are needed to prevent existing container shipping companies from escaping and to attract new customers. The additional services and reward programs are investigated. How these variables affect relational commitment in terms of customer retention is examined. Customers of the container terminals are examined in terms of psychological behavior. This study presents the structural equation model that shows the connection among benefits, rewards, switching costs and relational commitment. The empirical analysis is done with the subject of the container terminal users and the implications are derived.

  • This paper presents a methodology to analyze the interference of maritime traffic control radar by wind turbines installed in the sea, and the interference result of the maritime traffic control radars by a small number of wind turbines installed in sea near Gunsan port (Gunsan vessel traffic services). A ray based electromagnetic analysis software is used to analyze the interference. The geographic information system map containing altitude data, drawing of wind turbines, and sea with waves are imported to the software to analyze the effect of the terrain and the wind turbines. According to the analysis, a small number of wind turbines, not large scale wind farms, has no severe impact on the operation of the radar.

  • The decline of railway industry been a world-wide phenomenon. Recently, increased attention has therefore of railway systems has considerable impacts on the existing transport systems. Korea is expecting a era of high-speed railway and thus the need for the preexamination of such system emerges. This study is therefore concerned with the impacts on the conventional railway systems of the planned high-speed railway and its policy implication. The results revealed that the high-speed railway is almost exclusive to the conventional railway system emerges. This study is therefore concerned with the impacts on the conventional railway systems of the planned high-speed railway and its policy implication. The results revealed that the high-speed railway is almost exclusive to the conventional railway systems. The only impact is to induce some users of the conventional railway services, resulting in some excess track capacity of Kyungbu line. It dose however appear not to have any influence on the level of service for the conventional passenger services and rail freight transport. Consequently, it appears desirable to pay as much attention to the conventional railway systems as to the high-speed railway.

  • World ports and shipping markets are changing dynamically. The 9,000TEUs classed container vessels are avaiable to enter service now, so liner services are ready to start. With regard to the changing environment, the world ports ease regulations as well as invest funds to be leading ports. As a result, the importance of port logistics industry is getting bigger than before. It has an effect on improvement of service quality when a shipping company selects a port. The importance of tally, one cf the necessary elements in the port logistics industry is overlooked and there is no researches for tally yet. This paper suggests plans for the development of domestic tally after the investigations and analysis of survey are conducted.

  • The purpose of this article is to provide data to be utilized for marketing to attract future container cargo to the Korea-China Car Ferry Service and to estimate container traffic for the development of the International Passenger Terminal to be newly built in the Incheon Southern Port. An analysis of container traffic through the Passenger Terminal of Incheon Port showed that the container throughput of Incheon Port comprised 20% of traffic. The export cargo traffic in the International Passenger Terminal, 71.4%, or 111,698 TEU of 156,284 TEU in total, was brought from metropolitan areas. To increase the container traffic of the car ferry service currently concentrated on the metropolitan areas, more endeavor is required to strengthen marketing competence to attract container traffic to other regions apart from the metropolitan areas as well as provide general services.

  • IMO introduced the concept of e-Navigation and proposed MSPs(Maritime Service Portfolios) concept to reduce marine accidents, to improve efficiency of ship operation, port operation, and ship operation technology. Korean e-Navigation defines S1 ~ S5 services, as the service concept focused on domestic e-Navigation service corresponding to IMO MSPs, and is constructing a system as an ongoing project. S2 service (onboard system remote monitoring service) among the concepts of Korean e-Navigation services, is a service concept that judges the emergency level according to risk if an abnormal condition occurs during navigation, and provides corresponding guidance to accident ships based on emergency level. The purpose of this paper is to provide a basic architecture proposal of Korean e-Navigation S2 service navigation safety module, based on the S2 service operation concept. To do this, we conducted a questionnaire survey to ask experts with experience with sailors, to respond to the subjective risk experienced by sailors considering effects of anomalies, including equipment failure relative to sailing and navigational safety. Risk level for each abnormal condition was classified. The basic algorithm design of the navigation safety module is composed of safety index (SI) calculation module based on results of questionnaire and expert opinions, safety level (SL) determination module according to safety index, and corresponding guidance generation module according to safety level. To conduct basic validation of basic architecture of the navigation safety module, simulation of the ship anomaly monitoring was performed, and results have been revealed.

  • This paper aims to derive the strategies for the container terminal in Pusan. So it has focused on analyzing the current conditions of Pusan container terminal while evaluating the difficulties arising from the existing facilities/equipment and the operating system in the Pusan Korea Container Terminal through the workers at the container terminal and at off-dock CY. The object of this study is to assist the existing terminals to operate the facilities/equipment reasonably and to contribute shaping the ports policy which will be the basis of constructing new ports that will remain competitive while maintaining superiority over the ports in northeast area. According to the analysis 68% of the supplier answered that their terminal services which are the most important factor in running a terminal were superior to the other while only 28% of the user answered that they thought the current services were superior. For the areas of supplementing the terminal the people working at the terminal answered in the order of business operation equipment the number of berth service and management ability while the user answered in the order of service computer system transportation system and equipment. According to the regression analysis it became clear that there should be more effort toward improving or supplementing the facility scale facility usage charge transportation facilities which will assist in developing competitiveness of the terminal. It was also noted that management ability and business ability were mentioned as the important factors in operating a terminal.
