  • Education and training of technical staff for the new generation technological equipment has a vital importance for developing countries in order to maintain sustainable development and keep up with new generation technologies. Mechatronics the synergistic combination of mechanical, electronic and software engineering from an engineering perspective to serve the purposes of controlling advanced hybrid systems is a product of new generation technology which can be given as a sample to this phenomenon. Recent marine engines are combination of heavy industry with high technology. Nowadays, ships are built in full automation and equipped with computer controlled mechatronics systems. However, finding qualified officer and engineers who can operate, maintain, control and repair when it is required such full automatic systems with knowledge of a new generation system became a serious issue. Due to importance of this fact STCW Manila amendment has new training and certification requirements for electro-technical officers. In this paper, Mechatronics applications on ship are introduced, importance of it highlighted and a new syllabus is proposed for the training of marine engineers to be nurtured with mechatronics knowledge as it is required.

  • LMTT (Linear Motor based Transfer Technology), which is a new type transfer system used in the maritime container terminal for the port automation, is driven by PM LSM (Permanent Magnetic Linear Synchronous Motor), and largely consists of a controller, shuttle car, and rail. The shuttle car is divided into the frame part, the driving part, and wheels. Because the shuttle car is supported by four wheels in opposition to have five times length for the width of it, a larger deflection than other transfer system using the linear motor occurs. This deflection changes the gap between the mover and the stator, and then brings on an ununiform thrust force. So in this study, we dealt with the structural design for the mover of the shuttle car to generate the uniform thrust force for the efficient control of it. For the investigation, the thickness for each beam of the mover was adopted as design variables, the weight of the mover as objective function, and stress and deflection of the mover as constraint condition.

  • Productivity of container cranes and gantry cranes is influenced by the performance of crane hardware and cycle time. Cycle time in container handling is influenced by the path of containers and relative positioning of containers. So we have to minimize the sway of containers and spreaders to minimize relative positioning time. And sway minimization is influenced by the skill of workers in manual gantry cranes. In this paper, we will survey some anti-sway systems. Each system has some merits and some shortages. And we will show our choice and its experimental equipment which is under construction.

  • In this paper, design specifications for a new generation container crane in year 2013 is investigated. After analyzing the trend of the development of container cranes from the 1950s to date, a prospective size for targeting year 2013 is proposed. Introductory specifications of the frame, trolley, hoist and spreader for the proposed new crane are discussed. Considering that the mega-ships will load and unload more than 15000 boxes at one stop, rough dimensions of the crane including outreach, rail gage, lift, backreach, etc. are also suggested. Although the sheer size of the cranes already present some challenges, the biggest challenge is to improve productivity by maximizing the moves per hour. For this, the speeds of trolleys and hoists, rail loads, stability, etc. are discussed.

  • In this paper, we proposed the micro web-server Implementation on Strong ARM processor with embedded Linux. The parallel port connecting parallel I/O is controlled via HPPT protocol and web browser program. HTTP protocol is ported into Linux and the micro web server program and port control program are installed on-board memory using CGI to be accessed by web browser, such as Internet Explore and Netscape. 8bit LED and DIP switches are connected to the processor port and the switch input status is monitored and the LED output is controlled from remote hosts vie internet. The result of the proposed embedded micro-web server can be used in automation systems, remote distributed control via internet using web browser.

Routing of Linear Motor based Shuttle Cars in the Agile Port Terminal with Constrained Dynamic Programming

  • Linear motor (LM) based shuttle cars will play an important role in the future transportation systems of marine terminals to cope with increasing container flows. These systems are known as agile port terminals because of their significant advantages. However, routing for multiple shuttle cars is still an open issue. We present a network model of a container yard and propose constrained dynamic programming (DP) for its routing strategy with collision avoidance. The algorithm is a modified version of typical DP which is used to find an optimal path for a single traveler. We evaluate the new algorithm through simulation results for three shuttle cars in a mesh-type container yard.

  • Container terminal automation might offer many potential benefits, such as increased productivity, reduced cost, and improved safety. Autonomous trucks can lead to more efficient container transport. A robust lane detection method is proposed using score-based generative modeling through stochastic differential equations for image-to-image translation. Image processing techniques are combined with Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) to ensure lane positioning robustness. The proposed method is validated by a dataset collected from the port terminals under different environmental conditions and tested the robustness of the lane detection method with stochastic noise.

퍼지이론을 이용한 인천항 신국제여객터미널의 항만운영 성공요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Success Factors of Port Operation for New International Passenger Terminal Using Fuzzy Theory)

  • 본 연구는 퍼지이론을 이용하여 신규 건설중인 인천항 신국제여객터미널의 항만운영 성공요인 도출을 연구의 목적으로 하였다. 항만운영 성공요인은 카페리선사와 항만하역사에 종사하는 임직원을 대상으로 1차적으로 설문조사를 진행한 후, 한중카페리 선사 및 해당 하역사의 근무경력 15년 이상 전문가와 심층인터뷰(Indepth-Interview)를 수행하여 최종적으로 선정하였다. 전문가의 지식 추출이 가능한 퍼지방법을 활용하여 성공적 항만운영 요인에 대한 가중치를 산정하였다. 신국제여객터미널을 이용하게 될 선사와 하역사들을 대상으로 "부지 사용적 측면", "생산성 측면", "비용적 측면", "항만서비스 측면"으로 상위평가요인을 분류하여 항만운영의 성공요인을 비교분석하였다. 분석결과 "부지사용적 측면"은 컨테이너장치장 확보(0.857)가 가장 중요한 요소로 나타났으며, "생산성 측면"에서는 터미널의 자동화 시스템 구축(0.806)이 가장 중요하게 분석되었다. "비용적 측면"과 "서비스적 측면"에서는 부지 임대료 산정(0.861)과 선석스케쥴 관리(0.798)가 각각 가장 중요한 요인으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 신국제여객터미널은 적정임대료 산정, CY장치장 적정면적 확보, 터미널의 자동화 시스템 구축 등에 주력하여 항만운영을 해야 한다는 시사점을 지니며 향후 동일 운영형태의 국제여객터미널 비교분석 연구를 진행할 필요성이 존재한다.

  • 컨테이너터미널에서 생산성을 향상시키기 위해서는 야드를 효율적으로 운영하는 것이 중요하다. 자동화 컨테이너터미널의 경 우 수직형 자동화 야드로서 기존의 수평형 장치장과는 다른 장치장 특성을 가지게 된다. 자동화 컨테이너터미널에서 자동화 야드는 자동 화 장비가 운영되므로 자동화 장비와 외부트럭, 본선작업 등과 연계된 효율적인 장치장 계획이 필요하다. 그러나 기존의 장치장 계획은 공간할당 문제이므로 자동화 컨테이너터미널에서 사용된다면 실시간으로 변화하는 장비 및 장치장 상황이 반영되지 않기 때문에 장치장의 효율성이 저하되고 하역시간의 증가를 초래하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 본선계획파 장치장 현황, ATC의 상황을 고려한 실시간 컨테이너의 장치 위치를 결정하는 알고리즘을 제안하고자 한다.
