Complete prediction of second order permeability tensor for three dimensional circular braided preform is critical to understand the resin transfer molding process of composites. The permeability can be predicted by considering resin flow through the multi-axial fiber structure. In this study, permeability tensor for a 3-D circular braided preform is calculated by solving a boundary problem of a periodic unit cell. Flow field through the unit cell is obtained by using a 3-D finite volume method (FVM) and Darcy's law is utilized to obtain permeability tensor. Flow analysis for two cases that a fiber tow is regarded as impermeable solid and permeable porous medium is carried out respectively. It is found that the flow within the intra-tow region of the braided preform is negligible if inter-tow porosity is relatively high but the flow through the tow must be considered when the porosity is low. To avoid checkerboard pressure field and improve the efficiency of numerical computation, a new interpolation function for velocity variation is proposed on the basis of analytic solutions. Permeability of the braided preform is measured through a radial flow experiment and compared with the permeability predicted numerically.
In this study, the internal flow field of SCR Denitrification Plant was simulated by using Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD). In order to analyze the uniformity of flow field, an interpretation on the pre-existing facilities was performed, and some moot points were identified and compensated through this analysis. The compensatory methods include the installation of the Porous Plate below the bottom of the Baffle to create uniform flow and also, and the Guide Vane was also placed in the bend of pipe to guide the flow uniformly. Lastly, the Baffle was installed to deduct equalized space distribution of the air flow, initially flowed into the SCR Plant.
The unsteady Hartmann flow of an electrically conducting, viscous, incompressible fluid bounded by two parallel non-conducting porous plates is studied with heat transfer. An external uniform magnetic field and a uniform suction and injection are applied perpendicular to the plates while the fluid motion is subjected to a constant pressure gradient. The two plates are kept at different but constant temperatures while the Joule and viscous dissipations are included in the energy equation. The effect of the magnetic field and the uniform suction and injection on both the velocity and temperature distributions is examined.
In the present study, the unsteady Couette flow with heat transfer of a dusty viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid under the influence of an exponential decaying pressure gradient is studied without neglecting the Hall effect. The parallel plates are assumed to be porous and subjected to a uniform suction from above and injection from below while the fluid is acted upon by an external uniform magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the plates. The governing equations are solved numerically using finite differences to yield the velocity and temperature distributions for both the fluid and dust particles.
In the field of yarn dyeing, the most generally employed method is a type of package dyeing which uses a package cheesesstacked on a spindle made of a perforated tube. Spindles up to now, have been designed without considering the characteristics of dyeing liquid, focusing only on the geometric configuration which cause many problems such as lack of level dyeing. To improve the level dyeing and find the appropriate spindle configuration for the most effective dyeing process, this study examines the spindle flow-field in detail, using a computational method. Flow characteristics inside the spindle have been investigated with varying in porosity, porous diameter and the velocity of the flow. The results show that the total pressure of the flow through the spindle is used to overcome body force. The characteristics of the flow from the porous spindle could also be observed. Based on the results from this study, an effective spindle configuration for level-dyeing has been proposed.
In the field of yarn dyeing, the most generally employed method is a type of package dyeing which uses a package of cheeses stacked on a spindle made of a perforated tube. In order to understand the process of level dyeing, it is essential to perform a study of the porous flow through the spindle for the cheese dyeing method. In this paper, the axisymmetric, incompressible, Navier-Stokes equations are solved for several spindle configurations using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. For investigating the flow patterns through the spindle, porous diameter and porosity is varied in the present study. The computational results show that the total pressure loss depends only on the velocity of inflow regardless of porous diameter and porosity and a large percentage of the mass flow rate through the spindle is discharged at the upside of the spindle. Therefore, it is required to design a new spindle to obtain the level dyeing.

The plume interference is a complex phenomenon, consisting of plume-induced boundary layer separation, separated shear layer, multiple shock waves, and their interactions. The base knowledge of plume interference effect on powered missiles and flight vehicles is not yet adequate to get an overall insight of the flow physics in plume-freestream flow field. Computational studies are performed to better understand the flow physics of the plume-induced shock and separation for Simple, Rounded, Porous-extension test model configurations. The present study simulates highly underexpanded exhaust plume effect on missile body at the transoni $c^ersonic speeds. In order to investigate the plume-induced separation phenomenon, Simple, Rounded and Porous-extension plate are attacked to the missile afterbody. The computational result shows that the rounded afterbody and the porous-extension wall attached at the missile base can alleviate the plume-induced shock wave and separation phenomenon and improve the control of the missile body.dy.

The cementless fixation of bone ingrowth by porous coatings on artificial hip joint prostheses are replacing polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) bone cement fixations. However, the major interests in the field of porous metal coating are environmental corrosivity accelerated by metal ion release, deterioration in the mechanical property of the coating, and the mechanical failure of the coatings as well as the substrate. Therefore, the selection of right materials for coatings and the development of porous coating techniques must be accomplished. Because of the existing problems in Ti and Ti alloys which are used extensively, this study is focused on the plasma spraying technique for coating on super stainless steel substrate. In order to determine the optimum conditions which satisfy the requirement for the porous coatings, under the plasma spraying, we selected the experimental parameters which extensively influenced on the characteristics of the coating through the pre-examination. Spray distance has been selected among 120, 160, and 200mm and primary gas flow rate among 70, 100, and 130 SCFH. Current and secondary gas($H_2$) flow rate was fixed at 400A, and 15 SCFH respectively. To understand the characteristics of the coatings, surface morphology, cross-sectional micro-structure, surface roughness, residual stress, and corrosion resistance were elucidated and the best conditions for the bone ingrowth improvement on artificial hip joint prostheses were found.

Finite element method has been applied to solve the fundamental governing equations of natural convective, electrically conducting, incompressible fluid flow past an infinite vertical plate surrounded by porous medium in presence of thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, Soret and Dufour effects. In this research work, the results of coupled partial differential equations are found numerically by applying finite element technique. The sway of significant parameters such as Soret number, Dufour number, Grashof number for heat and mass transfer, Magnetic field parameter, Thermal radiation parameter, Permeability parameter on velocity, temperature and concentration evaluations in the boundary layer region are examined in detail and the results are shown in graphically. Furthermore, the effect of these parameters on local skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number and Sherwood numbers is also investigated. A very good agreement is noticed between the present results and previous published works in some limiting cases.

The objective of the present study is to investigate thermal diffusion and radiation effects on unsteady MHD flow past a linearly accelerated vertical porous plate with variable temperature and also with variable mass diffusion in presence of heat source or sink under the influence of applied transverse magnetic field. The fluid considered here is a gray, absorbing/emitting radiation but a non-scattering medium. At time t > 0, the plate is linearly accelerated with a velocity $u=u_0t$ in its own plane. And at the same time, plate temperature and concentration levels near the plate raised linearly with time t. The dimensionless governing equations involved in the present analysis are solved using the closed analytical method. The velocity, temperature, concentration, skin-friction, the rate or heat transfer and the rate of mass transfer are studied through graphs in terms of different physical parameters like magnetic field parameter (M), radiation parameter (R), Schmidt parameter (Sc), Soret number (So), Heat source parameter (S), Prandtl number (Pr), thermal Grashof number (Gr), mass Grashof number (Gm) and time (t).
