Aseismic designs of pile-supported wharves are commonly performed utilizing simplified dynamic analyses, such as multi-mode spectral analyses. Simplified analyses can be useful for evaluating the limit state of structures. However, several pile-supported wharves, that have been damaged during past earthquakes, have shown that soil deformation and soil-pile dynamic interaction significantly affect the entire behavior of structures. Such behavior can be captured by performing nonlinear effective stress analyses, which can properly consider the dynamic interactions among the soil-pile-structure. The present study attempts to investigate the earthquake performance of a pile-supported wharf utilizing a three-dimensional numerical method. The damaged pile-supported wharf at the Kobe Port during the Hyogo-ken Nambu earthquake (1995) is selected to verify the applicability of the numerical modeling. Analysis results showed a suitable agreement with the observations on the damaged wharf, and the significant effect of excess pore pressure development and pile-soil dynamic interaction on the seismic performance of the wharf.

For a long time, evaluation of soundness and strength in concrete has been performed through ultrasonic velocity(UV), which is essential work in field assessment. Porosity in concrete is a major parameter indicating durability and strength, and UV passing concrete depends on porosity variation. In this paper, a modeling on UV through concrete is carried out considering porosity and the results are verified with those from test. Additionally UV in concrete under compression/tension loading condition is measured and UV modeling with loading condition is performed. Up to 50% of loading ratio, UV slightly increases and greatly drops at peak load in compression region, however it fluctuates in tensile region due to micro cracking in matrix. The proposed model shows a reasonable agreement with test results in control and compression region, and needs modification for tensile region considering micro cracks and local aggregate interlocking.

Geosynthetics are generally utilized to restrain the leakage of leachate and other contaminants during the construction of offshore waste landfill. Therefore, geosynthetic-soil interface is formed inevitably. In this study, 2 dimensional numerical analysis is performed to assess the dynamic behaviour of the offshore waste landfill including geosynthetic-soil interface. Offshore waste landfill can be divided into rubble mound revetment and retaining wall types and analyzed on each type. Effective stress analysis is conducted to consider the variation of pore water pressure and axial force and shear displacement of the interface are compared based on the characteristics of seismic frequency. Consequently, retaining wall type demonstrates more stable behavior against liquefaction potential and favorable forces and shear displacement.
This study is performed for the development of a field monitoring and test technique both of self-weight and hydraulic consolidation by which the soil parameters of dredge-reclaimed clay can be obtained effectively. The field monitoring development and tests mentioned above make it possible to reproduce the process of the self-weight consolidation from settling to reclaimed soft ground. The experimental research is mainly focussed on the characteristics of self-weight consolidation of dredged clayey soil. And theoretical study has pointed out the limits in the application of Terzaghi's one dimensional consolidation theory in interpreting reclaimed clayey ground. Furthermore, a finite difference analysis has been made on the basis of Mikasa s self-weight consolidation theory which takes the problems of Terzaghi's theory into consideration. The relationships between specific volume, effective stress, and the coefficient of permeability of Kunsan reclaimed clayey soil have been obtained by laboratory tests. On the other hand, through the field monitoring, pore pressure, total pressure, and water levels have been measured after pouring. The results of these experiments have been analyzed, and compared with those from Terzaghi's method and the finite difference analysis of Mikasa's self-weight consolidation theory. In conclusion, the measured settlements is comparatively consistent with Mikasa's self-weight consolidation theory rather than Terzaghi's consolidation theory.
This paper investigated the strength and stiffness of composite truss unit structures. The model used is a core-filled model combining the Kagome model and the cube truss model. The material properties used for the analysis are 304 stainless steel with elastic modulus of 193 GPa and yield stress of 215 MPa. The theoretical equation is derived from the relative elasticity relation of Gibson - Ashby ratio, the analysis was performed using Deform 3D, a commercial tool. In conclusion, the relative elasticity for this unit model correlates with 1.25 times the relative density and constant coefficient, elasticity is inversely proportional to pore size. The relative compressive strength has a correlation with relative density of 1.25 times. Proof of this is a real experiment, the derived theoretical relationship should further consider mechanical behavior such as bending and buckling. In the future, it is hoped that the research on the elasticity and the stress according to the structure of the three-dimensional space will be continued.

Triaxial tests at isotropic confining pressure of 200 kPa were carried out to show the undrained shear behavior of artificially cemented sands, which were cemented by gypsum, and the influences of relative density and DOC (degree of cementation) were investigated from the results. The yield strength, the elastic secant modulus at yield point and the peak frictional angle of cemented sands increased abruptly compared to uncemented sands, and it was checked that cementation exerts more influence on the behavior of sand than the relative density. But after breakage of the cementation bonds, the relative density was more important factor on the behavior of sand than the cementation. Because the compressibility md the excess pore pressure of cemented sands were reduced due to the cementation bonds, the effective stress path of cemented sands was going toward to the total stress path of uncemented sands. The cementation of sand restricted the dialtion of sand at the pre-yield condition, but induced more dilation in the post-yield condition.
In this study, artificial cemented sand made of a few portland cement and Nak-Dong river sand was researched closely to investigate cementing effect quantitatively through unconfined tests and triaxial tests. The peak strength and elastic modulus increased and dilation of cemented sand was restricted by the cementation, but after breakage of the cementation, dilation and negative excess pore water pressure increased. In stress-strain curve, strain-softening behavior appeared in drained condition but strain-hardening behavior was appeared in undrained condition as a result of the increase of effective stress. The test was quantitatively analyzed by multiple regression models, correlating each response variable with input variable. The equations are valid only over the range investigated. Its adjusted coefficient of determination was $0.81{\sim}0.91$, and dry density is important factor for estimating strength of cemented sand.

Advanced nonlinear effective stress constitutive models are started to be frequently used in one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) site response analysis for assessment of porewater generation and liquefaction potential in soft soil deposits. The emphasis of this research is on the assessment of the implementation of this category of models at the element stage. Initially, the performance of a coupled porewater pressure (PWP) and constitutive models were evaluated employing a catalogue of 40 unidirectional cyclic simple shear tests with a variety of relative densities between 35% and 80% and effective vertical stresses between 40 and 80 kPa. The authors evaluated three coupled constitutive models (PDMY02, PM4SAND and PDMY03) using cyclic direct simple shear tests and for decide input parameters used in the model, procedures are recommended. The ability of the coupled model to capture dilation as strength is valuable because the studied models reasonably capture the cyclic performance noted in the experiments and should be utilized to conduct effective stress-based 1D and 2D site response analysis. Sandy soils may become softer and liquefy during earthquakes as a result of pore-water pressure (PWP) development, which may have an impact on seismic design and site response. The tested constitutive models are mathematically coupled with a cyclic strain-based PWP generation model and can capture small-strain stiffness and large-strain shear strength. Results show that there are minor discrepancies between measured and computed excess PWP ratios, indicating that the tested constitutive models provide reasonable estimations of PWP increase during cyclic shear (ru) and the banana shape is reproduced in a proper way indicating that dilation and shear- strain behavior is well captured by the models.
This study identified degradation properties by temperature stress with Araldite$^{(R)}$ AY103-1/HY956 used for ceramics. Tensile and compressive strength of durability increased for 6,480 hours at temperature of $34{\sim}45^{\circ}C$. In stability of external stress and temperature, compressive strength is superior to tensile strength, it requires conservation plans considering strength properties and stress of restoration materials. The tensile shear strength of adhesion properties decreased for 4,320 hours at temperature of $40{\sim}60^{\circ}C$. In ceramics with porosity, environments under isothermal-isohumidity are important because interfacial properties of adherend are concerned with performance variation. Glossiness decreased for 6,480 hours at temperature of $34{\sim}45^{\circ}C$ and color difference increased. Gloss stability was superior and color stability was weak, which requires improvement of optical properties. In artifacts on display in museums, there is concern about temperature rise on restoration materials by lighting therefore, it needs to minimize change in physical properties by exposure environments.
$CO_2$ sequestration for alleviating global warming is a hot issue in the world. In this study, TOUGH2 and FLAC3D were combined for analyzing the hyro-mechanical coupling behaviors expected in $CO_2$ sequestration and applied it to Sleipner project carried out in Norway. In the analysis, the influence of pore pressure on in situ stress was considered and the influence of caprock permeability on hydro-mechanical behaviors was analyzed. In the condition of constant injection rate, pressure and saturation at the injection well, liquid and gas saturation in rock, major and minor stress variations with time and distance from the injection well, and horizontal and vertical displacements after injection could be investigated. The major principal stress was quickly increased in the early stage and then slowly decreased to a stable value, which was higher than the initial value. In contrast, the minor principal stress returned to initial value after some increase in the early stage. Surface upheaval was steadily increased and it was up to 15mm in 2 years after injection. When the caprock's permeability was changed from $3e-15m^2{\sim}3e-18m^2$, it was found that the injection well pressure and surface upheaval were inversely propotional to the permeability.
