FT-IR measurement and the physical properties of polyurethane adhesive prepared from the polyol, isocyanate, 2-HEMA and other acrylate monomers were examined. The softening point, viscosity, adhesion strength and mechanical properties of the PU adhesives were reviewed by Ring and Ball method, Brookfield viscometer and universal test machine, respectively. Results revealed that increment of both PPG amount and butyl acrylate content decreased softening point, adhesion strength, tensile strength and 100% modulus. However as 2-HEMA and MDI content increased the mechanical properties including tensile strength, 100% modulus increased, and also the viscosity and NCO content increased.
To investigate the influence of manufacturing environment on bonding performance of mixed cross laminated wood (CLT) using polyurethane (PUR) adhesive, a boiling water soak delamination test according to the temperature and relative humidity was conducted. The 5-ply mixed CLT consisted of Japanese Larch for external and middle layer and yellow poplar for internal layer. The PUR adhesives with different opening times of 10 and 30 minutes were used. The mixed CLT was manufactured according to pressing times of PUR and manufacturing environments of summer and winter. In case of summer environment, the delamination rate of the mixed CLT with pressing time of 4 hours using a PUR adhesive with open time of 10 minutes met the requirements of KS F 2081. In case of winter environment, the delamination rate of the mixed CLT didn't meet the requirements of KS standard. However, it was possible to confirm the effect of improving the adhesive performance by adjusting the pressing time according to the open time of the adhesive under the manufacturing conditions. The delamination rate of CLT with open time 30 minutes PUR, manufactured by indirect moisture supply methods was 11.2% better than direct moisture supply methods. As a result of delamination test in the same condition of relative humidity and adhesive, it was found that the temperature of manufacturing environment influences the adhesive performance.
In this study, the polyurethane acrylates (PUA) resin with good adhesive and flexibility for adhesive for shoes and clothing were synthesized using that poly(tetramethylene adiphate glycol) (PTAd), poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) (PTMG) as polyester polyol and polyether polyol respectively, including 4,4'-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), 1,4-butandiol (1,4-BD), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA) and dibutyl amine (DBA). The effect of polyol blend in the polyurethane acrylate on thermal and mechanical properties, adhesion strength and flexural strength were studied. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of PUA was confirmed in range of -70~-40 ℃. In addition, the glass transition temperature (Tg), decomposition temperature (Td), tensile strength adhesion strength and heat resistance were increased as increasing of PTAd amount while the elongation, water resistance and flexural properties were decreased. The synthesized polyurethane acrylate with 5:5 ratio of PTAd and PTMG indicated the highest adhesion strength and flexural properties.
The surfaces of injection and pressure-molded sheets of poly(ethylene-covulylacetate)(EVA) foams used for shoe mid-sole were treated with low temperature plasma to improve adhesion with a water-based polyurethane adhesives. Several experimental variables were considered, such as radio frequency power, treating time, type of gas. gas flow, and distance between electrode and sample. The modificated surface by plasma treatment were characterized using contact angle meter, scanning electron microscopy(SEM), universal testing machine(UTM). Adhesion was tested by T-peel tests of treated EVA foams/polyurethane adhesive joints. The treatment in the low temperature plasma produced a noticeable decrease in contact angle. The peel strength of EVA foams treated with plasma was increased with plasma treating time, and gas flow.
In this study, solvent based polyurethane (PU) adhesives were prepared with the hydrocarbon resin and the acrylic modified hydrocarbon resin contents. The solvent based PU adhesive were increased with increasing tackifier concentration. The surface state of films showed good compatibility with increasing the PX-95 concentration but A-1100 series didn't present homogeneous phase more than 10 phr. Mechanical strength and peel strength were maximum at 5 phr tackifier concentration especially PX-95 series in solvent based PU adhesive.

The field of maxillofacial prosthetics is concerned with the prosthetic reconstruction of missing head and neck tissue. Currently, facial prostheses are usually applied in cases of defects caused by the surgical removal of tumors or congenital defects. While silicone has been most widely used for the reconstruction of missing maxillofacial defects, it does not have ideal physical properties. Therefore, bonding a thin polyurethane sheet to silicone prostheses was recommended. In this case skin adhesives were used for the retention of maxillofacial prostheses. But retention of devices has always been problematic. The contributions of implants can be made to solve these problems. Implants have reduced the need for adhesive use, simplifying cleaning procedures and thus extending the life of the prostheses. For implant-retained prostheses, retentive matrix is necessary to hold attachments and/or magnets. The retentive matrix is usually fabricated with autopolymerizing acrylic resin or visible light- polymerized resin. The purpose of this study was to compare the adhesion-in-peel force of silicone adhesive to autopolymerizing acrylic resin and polyurethane sheet with two different surface textures : pumice polish only or retention groove, and three surface primers : Dow corning 1205 primer or Dow corning S-2260 primer or FactorII A-304 primer, and two polymerization methods : room temperature or dry heat oven. The t-peel bond strength of specimens was determined as described in ASTM Standard D1876-72. The results were statistically analyzed using the ANOVA test, multiple range test and t-test The results were as follows. 1. The t-peel bond strength of A-304 primer was the highest and statistically higher than that of S-2260(p<0.05). 2. The t-peel bond strength of specimens with retention groove was statistically higher than that of specimens polished with pumice(p<0.05). 3. The t-peel bond strength of specimens polymerized in dry heat oven was statistically higher than that of specimens in room temperature(p<0.01).
In this study, polyurethane hot melt adhesive containing ester groups was synthesized. Three kinds of chain extenders were used to find out the best chain extender. Results showed that adhesive containing 1,4-butanediol as a chain extender exhibited the highest peel strength among them. Also, it was found that there existed the optimum molecular weight of 1,4-butanediol containing adhesive for make the highest peel strength.. Moreover, hot melt adhesive containing 1,4-butanediol chain extender was applied to various kinds of textiles substrate such as cotton, polyester, and urethane coated polyester textiles to study the effects of different substrates on the peel strength and water resistance at $60^{\circ}C$. It was found that cotton substrate showed the highest peel strength and urethane coated polyester substrate showed the highest resistance on $60^{\circ}C$ water.
In this study, the acid polyols containing acid groups were synthesized, the novel polyurethane adhesive was developed by introducing the acid polyol by content. The acid polyols were introduced, the mechanical properties showed the maximum value when the acid content was 0.1 to 0.3 wt%, and it was confirmed that the mechanical properties and adhesive strength decreased at the content higher than 0.5 wt%. As the acid group, carboxylic acid and sulfuric acid were introduced to compare properties, and carboxylic acid showed stronger hydrogen bonding potential than sulfuric acid and improved mechanical properties. In addition, the correlation between particle size and mechanical properties was confirmed by introducing ZnO and CaCO3. When ZnO and CaCO3 were introduced, an ionic bond was formed with an acid group, and it was confirmed that mechanical properties were increased.
In order to improve the water swelling, thermal/mechanical and adhesion properties of waterborne polyurethane (WBPU), a series of the crosslinkable WBPUs containing hydrophilic ionic component, dimethylol propionic acid (20 mole%), were prepared by in-situ polymerization using a cross-linker hexakis (methoxymethyl) melamine (HMMM). Effects of the HMMM content (2, 4, and 6 wt%) and curing temperature on these properties of the crosslinked WBPUs samples were investigated. All properties were found to increase with increasing HMMM content. It was found that the optimum curing temperature of the WBPU films and adhesives was near $120^{\circ}C$, which was not dependent on the HMMM content.
This study was undertaken to evaluate the degree of the marginal leakage of composite restoration with 3 brands of dental adhesives by means of the dye penetration at the enamel and dentinal margins. 150 cavities of class V were prepared on the buccal and lingual surfaces of 75 extracted anterior and premolar teeth, which were devided into 3 groups. The cavities were filled with composite resin, Silar$^{(R)}$ (3M) and Heliosit$^{(R)}$ (Vivadent) after application of the dental adhesives, specifically Scotchbond$^{(R)}$ (3M) which is essentially composed with halophosphorus ester of Bis-GMA, Dentin Adhesit$^{(R)}$ (Vivadent) which is polyurethane resin, and Enamel Bond$^{(R)}$ (3M) which is a product of Bis-GMA with low viscosity at internal surfaces and margins of the cavities. All specimens were immersed in $37^{\circ}C$, 0.5% methylene blue solution for 24 hours after thermocycling at $4^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$, embedded in acrylic resin, and sectioned with diamond disk into two parts. The sectioned specimens observed with the light microscope. The following results were obtained: 1. The group filled with Scotchbond$^{(R)}$-Silar$^{(R)}$ the other two groups at the enamel margins. 2. No significant difference in the degree of the marginal leakage had appeared between Dentin Adhesit$^{(R)}$-Heliosit$^{(R)}$ group an d Enamel Bond$^{(R)}$-Silar$^{(R)}$ group at the enamel margins. 3. Severe marginal leakage with penetration of dye to the floor of cavity had appeared from the all three groups and no significant difference in the degree of marginal leakage existed between the three groups at the dentinal margins.
