Recently, the development of a new class of anti-fouling paint resin which has excellent anti-fouling performance and no persistence in the marine ecology is necessary. In this study, we first polymerized polyurethanes (PUs) as the other type of matrix which have carboxylic acid groups by using poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI), and 2,2'-bis(hydroxyl methyl)-propionic acid (DMPA). And next, we synthesized final resins having quaternary ammonium salts on pendant acid groups of PUs. After synthesis, the physical self-polishing property of resin by the measurement of reduced thickness in sea water was tested. The mechanical property of antifouling paint resin was good when the molecular weight of PEG was 600 or less. It was confirmed that the adhesion of PU resin was deteriorated when the content of quaternary ammonium salt was incorporated over specific value.

This study was conducted to develop a thin paving technique using polymer epoxy resin materials which is considered as a durable pavement materials. The mechanical performance characteristics of the polymer epoxy resin materials were also evaluated to confirm the validity as a pavement materials. To estimate the performance properties of the materials, bending tests and bonding tests were performed using freeze-thaw and ultra-violet rays to accelerate the aging of materials. In addition, HYUNStay, a commercial structural analysis program for cable-stayed bridges, was used to compare the effect of paving materials between the polymer epoxy resin materials and the conventional ones on the reduction of cable tension and on the stability of the main tower. According to the test results, it is noted that the thin paving technique using polymer epoxy resin materials can improve the performance and durability of pavement compared to the conventional one.

We synthesized peptide-resin conjugates (1 and 2) by immobilizing ${\beta}$-sheet antibacterial peptide and ${\alpha}$ helical antibacterial peptide on PEG-PS resin, respectively. Conjugate 1 showed considerable antibacterial activity in various conditions, whereas conjugate 2 did not exhibit antibacterial activity. The growths of various bacteria were inhibited by conjugate 1 even at lower concentrations than MIC. Conjugate 1 killed bacteria at MIC and had a potent synergistic effect with current antibacterial agents such as vancomycin and tetracycline, respectively. Overall results indicate that polymer surface modification using antibacterial ${\beta}$ sheet peptide is a powerful way to prevent microbial contamination on polymer surfaces.
To prevent environmental pollution caused by leakage of leachate from waste landfill, vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) resin is applied to liner and cover materials to improve their performance. Styrene, styrene butadiene rubber, and VAE are widely used as polymer resins that have excellent water resistance and durability. Further, VAE resin is known to have additional advantages such as adhesion to nonpolar materials and resistance to saponification as a copolymer. In this study, the effect of VAE content on the properties of liner and cover materials was studied. The water and air content ratios, bending and compressive strengths, water absorption ratio, and coefficient of permeability of these materials were measured. The liner and cover materials with 4 wt% VAE showed good properties.
A methodology for the syntheses of carboxanilides using solid support of 4-chloro-3-nitorbenzophenone oxime resin 5 was developed. Condensation of 4-chloro-3-nitorbenzophenone resin 6 with hydroxylamine hydrochloride salt gave oxime resin 5. The reaction of oxime resin 5 with dioxin and oxathiin derivatives 7a-d afforded the corresponding polymer-bound dioxin and oxathiin derivatives 9a-d. These polymer-bound resins 9a-d were treated respectively with aniline in the presence of acetic acid resulted in the corresponding dioxin carboxanilides 10a-d (yield, 5%-quantitative).

In nano-imprint lithography (NIL) process, which has shown to be a good method to fabricate polymeric patterns, several kinds of pattern defects due to thermal effects during polymer flow and mold release operation have been reported. A typical defect in NIL process with high aspect ratio and low resist thickness pattern is a resist fracture during the mold release operation. It seems due to interfacial adhesion between polymer and mold. However, in the present investigation, FEM simulation of NIL molding process was carried out to predict the defects of the polymer pattern and to optimize the process by FEA. The embossing operation in NIL process was investigated in detail by FEM. From the analytical results, it was found that the lateral flow of polymer resin and the applied pressure in the embossing operation induce the weld line and the drastic lateral strain at the edge of pattern. It was also shown that the low polymer-thickness result in the delamination of polymer from the substrate. It seems that the above phenomena cause the defects of the final polymer pattern. To reduce the defect, it is important to check the initial resin thickness.

The steel slag, a by-product which is produced by refining pig iron during the manufacture of steel, is mainly used as road materials after aging. It is necessary to age steel slag for long time in air because the reaction with water and free-CaO in steel slag could make the expansion of volume. This problem prevents steel slag from being used as aggregate for concrete. However, steel slag used in this study was controled by a air-jet method which rapidly cools substance melted at a high temperature. The rapidly-chilled method would prevent from generation of free-CaO in steel slag. Also, Molten steel slag rapidly-chilled by air in high speed becomes a fine aggregate of nearly spherical shape. This study dealt with the influence of the using rate of rapidly-chilled steel slag and polymer resin on fluidity of polymer concrete, as a results Since RCSS has spherical shape and high density, up to replacement ratio of 100%, increases concrete fluidity under same polymer content and decrease polymer content in order to secure the same fluidity

This paper investigates the effect of curing conditions on the strength improvement of polymer-modified mortars using epoxy resin with various curing methods. The polymer-modified mortars using epoxy resin are prepared with various polymer-cement ratios, and subjected to standard, hot water, heat cure and autoclave cures. The epoxy-modified mortars are tested for flexural and compressive strengths at desired curing methods. From the test results, the flexural and compressive strengths of the epoxy-modified mortars are hardly improved by the autoclave and hot water cures compared to the ideal cure of $20^{\circ}C$. Among the four types of curing methods, the strengths of the heat cured epoxy-modified mortars is largely improved. Especially, it is obtained in the mortars sealed with PVDC film.
A metal complex, copper (II) L-proline was chemically bound to ethylene glycol dimethacrylate and divinylbenzene crosslinked chloromethylated polystyrene and they were used as chiral chelate resin matrix for column chromatography to resolve enantiomers of DL-amino acids. The L-enantiomers eluted first and the degree of resolution on the polymer crosslinked with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate was superior to the polymer crosslinked with divinylbenzene.

Electrically conducting polyaniline/cyanoethyl resin (PANI/Cyan) blends were prepared by in situ polymerization. The mechanical properties of the blend films increased with increasing cyanoethyl resin and the blend films have moderate conductivity.
