STEM II를 이용한 한국과 중국동부 지역의 대기오염물질 이동/화학/침착 모사에 관한 연구 (Application of the STEM II to air pollutant transport/chemistry/ deposition in the Korea and Eastern China Area)

  • The STEM II(Sulfur Transport Eulerian Model II) was adapted to investigate air pollutant transport phenomena between Eastern China and Korea. The movement of the high concentration region was clearly identified for the sulfate but was mot visible for SO$_{2}$. The 10.sim. 16 times more amount of SO$_{2}$ is transported to Korea compared to that of the local emission while the amount of the sulfate transported to Korea is 1 .sim. 1.3 times more than that of the sulfate produced by photo-chemical reaction in Korea. APTIs(Air Pollutant Transport Indices) for SO$_{2}$ and sulfate are approximately 0.85, which implies that the most of the SO$_{2}$ and sulfate existed in Korea are transported from Eastern China.

  • Using lobed burner, flame visualization and measurements of NOx and CO concentration in the combustor exit were carried out to evaluate the relation between the lobed structure in a burner and pollutant emission characteristics. The flame stability is enhanced by the lobed burner compared to conventional circular one. The correlation on fuel discharge velocity for flame blowout should be included on a variable related to the wall effect of the burner, because the flame blowout is observed at the burner having large perimeter. The burner having lobed structure in fuel discharge side compared to conventional burner reduces by 5% NOx emission due to lower flame intensity through flame elongation. Meanwhile the burner having lobed structure in air discharge side and both fuel and air discharge side increase the NOx emission.

  • Experimental studies have been carried out to find out the characteristics of the heat transfer, combustion emission and noise in the boilers without any extra firing zone for complete combustion of fuel. For the experiments a burner of premixed type and some heat exchangers were designed and manufactured. Also test facilities including a data acquisition system and various measuring devices were set up in order to measure automatically the various temperatures and flow rates of water and combustion gas. Various experiments were performed to find out the heat transfer characteristics as well as combustion emission and noise. In general, the burner which has uniform holes in the burner nozzle plate generates big combustion noise . whistling. The noise reduction method is discussed in this study. Many experimental data such as noise level, the amount of pollutant emission and heat transfer rate for different combination of heat exchangers are given as comparison bases for numerical studies.

  • We propose a prediction method of the pollutant and a synchronous classification of the current state of SOx emission in the power plant. We use the auto-regressive with exogeneous (ARX) model as a predictor of SOx emission and use a radial basis function network (RBFN) as a pattem classifier. The ARX modeling scheme is implemented using recursive least squares (RLS) method to update the model parameters adaptively. The capability of SOx emission monitoring is utilized with the application of the RBFN classifier. Experimental results show that the ARX model can predict the SOx emission concentration well and ARX modeling parameters can be a good feature for the state monitoring. in addition, its validity has been verified through the power spectrum analysis. Consequently, the RBFN classifier in combination with ARX model is shown to be quite adequate for monitoring the state of SOx emission.

신축 공동주택 및 건축자재에서의 오염물질 방출 특성 (A Study on the Emission Characteristics of Gaseous Organic Contaminants from Building Materials and Newly Constructed Apartments)

  • We investigated the emission characteristics of gaseous organic contaminants from building materials and newly constructed apartments. The emission test for building materials was done with small chamber method, and field measurements in newly constructed apartment were carried out by Korea Standard Test Method for Indoor Air Quality. First, the emission test by small chamber showed that the TVOC emission from building materials was much higher than formaldehyde. On the other hand, as expected, considerably high concentration of both TVOC and HCHO was detected in the new apartment.

  • The air pollutant emission from the railroad diesel locomotive is still a significant environmental concern in many countries including Korea and Unites States. The emission characteristics of the railroad diesel locomotive were extensively studied in this study. Particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$) emitted from a large locomotive engine (2-cycle, 16-cylinder, and 3,000-horsepower) under various engine-rating conditions was analyzed with a scanning mobility particle sizer and a gas stack sampler by using a dilution tunnel. We could gain the emission values of 2.1 g/horsepower-hour for PM and 42.7 g/horsepower-hour for $NO_x$. We proposed the emission reduction goal of the railroad diesel locomotive for Korea in comparison with the regulation of United States.

화력발전소의 대기오염물질 배출계수 산정 연구 (A Study on the Estimation of Air Pollutants Emission Factors in Electric Power Plants)

  • The main purpose of this study was to characterize the air pollutants emission factors in electric power plant (EPP) using fossil fuels. The electric power plant is a major air pollution source, thus knowing the emission characteristics of electric power plant is very important to develop a control strategy. The major air pollutants of concern from EPP slacks are particulate matter (PM), sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and heavy metals. Throughout the study, the following results are estimated - PM : 8.671E-05 ∼ 8.724E+01 PM emission (kg) per fuel burned (ton) - SOx : 4.149E-04∼7.877E+01 SOx emission (kg) per fuel burned (ton) - NOx 1.578E-02∼9.857E+00 NOx emission (kg) per fuel burned (ton) - CO : 3.800E-04∼1.291E+00 CO emission (kg) per fuel burned (ton) - Hg : 1.220E+01∼3.108E+02 Hg emission (mg) per fuel burned(ton) From the statistical analysis by Wilcoxon signed ranks test between the emission factors of ours and U.S. EPA's, we can yielded that : p 〉0.05.

예혼합 화염후류에서 열전달이 CO 및 NOx 생성 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Heat Loss on CO and NOx Emission Characteristics in the Postflame Region of Premixed Flames)

  • Strict pollutant regulations of NOx emission and increasing awareness of the environmental damage stimulated interest in research to obtain useful information regarding CO and NOx reductions at the same time. In this study, $CH_4$/air premixed flame was examined numerically to reduce CO and NOx emission level simultaneously in the post-flame region by the heat loss models in which radiative and combined conductive and convective heat losses were included. To reduce the NOx emission, first heat exchanger location was decided near the flame. After first heat exchanger was decided for the optimal NOx emission(about 30 ppm), in order to decide the optimal CO emission(about 30ppm), seocond heat exchanger location was tested and decided for several cases. Finally, the optimal location of heat exchanger for minimal CO and NOx emission simultaneously were determined and suggested.

갈참나무로부터 발생되는 이소프렌의 배출속도 비교 연구 (A Comparison Study on Isoprene Emission Rates from White Oak)

  • In order to investigate the NVOC (Natural Volatile Organic Compound) emissions from White Oak, the emission rates of isoprene were measured according to season, weather conditions, and the age of the tree. The analysis of seasonal emission rates showed that the emission rates were the highest during summer followed by spring and fall. The emission rates during summer were found to be nearly 8 times greater than those during fall. In addition, it was observed that the emission rates of isoprene depends on PAR and temperature. Moreover, the effect of age on the emission rates was studied, and the White Oak in the age range of $21{\sim}30$ had higher emission rates than that in the range of $41{\sim}50$. Accordingly, the current result indicates that the isoprene emissions are affected by both meteorological parameter and the age of a tree.

고속도로 강우 유출수내 오염물질의 EMC 및 부하량 원단위 산정 (Determination of Event Mean Concentrations and Pollutant Loadings in Highway Storm Runoff)

  • This research was conducted to understand the magnitude and nature of the stormwater emissions with the goal of quantifying stormwater pollutant concentrations and mass emission rates of pollutants. Eight highway sites in Southern California area were monitored for three years with collecting of grab and flow-weighted composite samples, rainfall and runoff flow. Generally the EMCs cannot be determined by simple statistical averaging of measured pollutant concentrations because of random characteristics of runoff quality and quantity. Therefore, this manuscripts will show a new EMC determination method. The EMC ranges of 95% confidence intervals are 102.78-216.37mg/L for TSS, 104.53-251.79mg/L for COD, 5.42-10.58mg/L for oil & grease and 2.42-10.18mg/L for TKN. The ranges of washed-off mass loading are determined to $0.06g/m^2-17.27g/m^2$ for TSS and $0.1-3.23g/m^2$for COD.
