A Study on the Additional Train Scheduling Method (열차 증편방법에 관한 연구)

  • Additional train scheduling is often required to increase the capacity of transporting passengers or freight. In most previous studies on scheduling additional trains, operation time of the added train is designated first; and then the train operation feasibility is examined. However, it is often difficult to apply this approach to domestic trains because the density of the railroad network in Korea is high and various types of trains are in use. Moreover, for freight trains, it is even more challenging because the delay is accumulated due to lower priority whenever a freight train and a passenger train contend for a common segment of rail. In this paper, we address the additional train scheduling problem which entails finding a feasible schedule for an additional train having a fixed departure time or departure time windows. The problem is modeled as a mixed integer programming and a column generation technique is used to solve it.

  • Thanks to the development of information technology and the vitalization of smart services, the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, in which various smart devices are connected to the network, has been continuously developed. In the legacy IoT architecture, data processing has been centralized based on cloud computing, but there are concerns about a single point of failure, end-to-end transmission delay, and security. To solve these problems, it is necessary to apply decentralized blockchain technology to the IoT. However, it is hard for the IoT devices with limited computing power to mine blocks, which consumes a great amount of computing resources. To overcome this difficulty, this paper proposes an IoT architecture based on the edge computing technology that can apply blockchain technology to IoT devices, which lack computing resources. This paper also presents an operaional procedure of blockchain in the edge computing-based IoT architecture.

  • This paper proposes a filter-based algorithm to adaptively adjust the contention window in IEEE 802.11 DCF. The proposed mechanism is focused on the general and realistic environments that have various conditions regarding to noise, media types and network load. For this flexible adaptation, Filter-based DCF(FDCF) takes a more realistic policy such as median filter concept in the image processing technologies. We can handle these various environments by adjusting the contention window size according to the result of filtering based on history-buffer. We can ignore temporarily and randomly occurred transmission failures due to noise errors and collisions in noisy environments. In addition, by changing the reference number and history-buffer size, FDCF can be extended as a general solution including previous proposed mechanism. We have confirmed that the proposed mechanism can achieve the better performance than those of previous researches in aspects of the throughput and the delay in the realistic environments.

Design of a Virtual Machine based on the Lua interpreter for the On-Board Control Procedure Execution Environment (탑재운영절차서 실행환경을 위한 Lua 인터프리터 기반의 가상머신 설계)

  • In this paper, we present the design, functions and performance analysis of the virtual machine (VM) based on the Lua interpreter for On-Board Control Procedure Execution Environment (OEE). The development of the OEE has been required in order to operate the lunar explorer mission autonomously which is planned by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) autonomously. The concept of On-Board Control Procedure (OBCP) is already being applied to the deep space missions with a long propagation delay and a limited data transmission capacity since it ensure he autonomy of the mission without the ground intervention. The interpreter is the execution engine in the VM and it interpreters high-level programming codes line by line and executes the VM instructions. So the execution speed is very more slower than that of natively compiled codes. In order to overcome it, we design and implement OEE using register-based Lua interpreter for execution engine in OEE. We present experimental results on a range of additional hardware configurations such as usages of cache and floating point unit. We expect those to utilized to the OBCP scheduling policy and the system with Lua interpreter.

  • Multimedia service systems should have efficient capacity to serve the growing clients and new data. In the general streaming services, users can endure the small amount of time delay at the beginning of service. But they want to have good quality of service. A streaming server tries to transfer video files to clients from a repository of files in real time. The server must guarantee concurrent and uninterrupted delivery of each video stream requested from clients. To achieve its purpose, many stream servers adopt multi-processors, sufficient memory, and RAID or SAN in their systems. In this paper, we propose a Linux-based parallel media streaming server. It is superior to the other systems in the storing structure, fault-tolerance, and service capacity. Since this system supports the web interlace, users can operate easily through the www. This system uses unique striping policy to distribute multimedia files into the parallel storage nodes. If a service request occurs, each storage node transmits striped files concurrently to the client. Its performance is better than the single media streaming service because of the parallel architecture.

  • After the joining in the WTO of China, the container throughputs have begun to increase notably and Continuous developments of China ports are influencing operation and policy of Korea ports. At this point Pyeongtaek Dangjin port which has potency as China trading port confronts with turning point of port development as new port. To this, correct need grasping of North China shippers is important strategic element of PyeongTaek Dangjin Port activation. In this study, there is purpose to present Pyeongtaek Port's activation strategy by grasping customer needs executing questionnaire to China local company about Pyeongtaek Dangjin Port. As a research result, Pyeongtaek Dangjin Port possesses high geographical strength but has problems like development delay, tribe of various route, absence of marketing strategy. To solve this problem, this paper proposes expansion of port and logistics physical distribution equipment, improvement of services, foundation of joint logistics center, establishment of marketing organization etc. Namely, it may overcome only new port's limitation though develop to port of cargo creation style that is not simple cargo dependence style port.

  • In Algeria, wastes are often stored in such conditions that do not meet standards. Today and more than ever, we really must implement an environmentally management of wastes. Recovery of waste in Algeria has a considerable delay due to the absence of a policy favorable to the development of waste management. But many researchers have shown the possibility to reuse dredged sediments in road construction. Through Europe, recent research works have been already performed on dam sediments. Present study fits into the context of the valorization of dredged sediments from Fergoug dam. They are found in considerable quantities and mainly composed of mineral phases, organic matters and water. The reservoir sedimentation poses problems for the environment and water storage, dredging becomes necessary. Civil engineering is a common way of recycling for such materials. Dredged sediments have not the required mechanical characteristics recommended by the standards as GTR guide (LCPC-SETRA 1992). So as to obtain mechanical performance, dredged sediment can be treated with cement, lime, or replaced materials like quarry sand. An experimental study has been conducted to determine physical and mechanical characteristics of sediments dredged from dam. Then different mixtures of sediment and/or quarry sand with hydraulic binders are proposed for improving the grain size distribution of the mixes. Finally, according these mixtures, different formulations have been tested as alternative materials with dredged sediments.

An Efficient Management Model of Security Policy in the Unified Threat Management System (통합 보안 시스템에서의 효율적인 보안 정책 관리 모델)

  • This paper showed that the integrated system to fortify security was much more efficient than the respective system through the analysis of problems from Firewall and IPS system in the existing security systems. The results of problem analysis revealed that there were the delay of processing time and lack of efficiency in the existing security systems. Accordingly, their performance was evaluated by using the separated Firewall, IPS system, and the integrated system. The result of evaluation shows that the integrated security system this paper suggested is five times faster than the existing one in terms of processing speed of response. This paper demonstrated the excellence of the proposed security system is also more than fivefold in session handling per second and six times process speeding in the CPU processing performance. In addition, several security policies are applied, and it provided a fact that it gave an excellent performance when it comes to protecting from harmful traffic attacks. In conclusion, this paper emphasized that fortifying the integrated security system was more efficient than fortifying the existing one considering in various respects such as cost, management, time, space and so on.

A Study on the Improvement of Inter-Terminal Transportation Using Buffer Space (완충지역을 활용한 타부두 환적 컨테이너 운송 개선 방안)

  • Competition between ports around the world is intensifying to attract transshipment cargo. However, recently, there have been concerns about the departure of transshipment cargo volume at Busan Port, such as the lifting of the cabotage policy in China's shipping sector and the implementation of a safe fare system. In terms of operation, terminal congestion and vehicle waiting time are seriously occurring due to imbalance in the transshipment volume of each terminal and vehicles concentrated in a specific time period. In this paper, we propose a method of inter-terminal transportation (ITT) using buffer space to solve the problem caused by inefficient ITT systems and presented a mixed integer programming (MIP) for the problem. The effect of using the buffer space was analyzed for various work volumes and capacity fluctuation ranges by applying the terminal congestion pattern and ITT vehicle in/out pattern based on the Busan New Port data.

An Exploratory Study on Conceptual Framework for Project-based Supply Chain Management : Focusing on Plant Engineering Firms (프로젝트형 SCM의 개념적 틀에 관한 탐색적 연구 : 플랜트 엔지니어링 기업을 중심으로)

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the issues related to the supply chain management in plant engineering industry, and propose the framework to improve the project efficiency. The preliminary case study shows that EPC's fragmented nature, lack of coordination and information sharing, and lack of proper risk and change management contribute to project delay and cost overrun. To examine the level of informatization and information sharing in supply chain, survey responses from the suppliers and subcontractors have been collected. The statistical results show that information sharing, early involvement in design process and awareness in SCM have influenced the level of collaboration, but supplier assessment and informatization have no impact on the collaboration. A conceptual model is proposed in order to facilitate the integration of design, procurement and construction functions. Implications from the study are also provided.
