Ultra-thin Polarization Independent Absorber Using Hexagonal Interdigital Metamaterial

  • An ultra-thin hexagonal microwave metamaterial absorber is described. It can absorb any polarized transverse electromagnetic wave because of its hexagonal shape. In spite of its very thin structure, almost $0.028{\lambda}g$, the absorber achieved 99% absorptivity at 11.35 GHz in experimental results because of the increased coupling losses, showing good agreement with simulation results. In addition, this high absorbance is unchanged for any polarized waves with the same frequency.

  • 가장자리로 부터 역비례로 저항률이 변하는 반평면에 H분극 평면파가 입사되는 경우, 산란파를 Kontorovich-Lebedev 변환을 이용해서 정확한 적분식으로 얻었으며, 이로부터 모든 각도에서 쓸 수 있는 균일 근사식 및 계산된 산란파를 광선적(光線的)으로 해석할 수 있도록 해주는 비균일 근사식도 구했다. 저항율의 상수 여러 값에 대하여 가장자리 회절 패턴을 보였다. 결과들은 물리적으로 타당함을 알 수 있었다.

Theoretical Description of All-Optical Switching Phenomena Involving Coupled Gap Solitons

  • We study the propagation of two pulses with orthogonal linear polarizations in a nonlinear periodic dielectric structure with $X^{(3)}$ nonlinearity. Using an envelope- function approach, we derive the coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations governing the spatio-temporal evolutions of the two orthogonally polarized modes in a nonlinear periodic structure. We then find their solitary-wave solutions referred to as coupled gap solitons. We show that two orthogonally polarized pulses can co-propagate as a coupled gap soliton through a nonlinear periodic structure while each pulse alone will be strongly reflected due to the Bragg reflection. Based on the results, we present an all-optical switching scheme which has a novel architecture and principle. We also study the stability of coupled gap solitons to find the dragging phenomena in a nonlinear birefringent periodic medium.

  • We proposed a new radiating structure generating a circularly polarized wave. Futhermore, we show that it is possible to generate all kind of polarizations by simple variations of some schematic factors. Basically, the structure composed of a slot and a strip. The length of slot and strip, the slot-strip distance and the strip inclination are the crucial factors to determine the polarization form. In this paper, we investigated the effects on polarization and other radiation characteristics by varying the factors.

  • The scattering problem by E-polarized plane wave with oblique incidence on a tapered resistive strip grating with infinite resistivity at strip-edges is analyzed by the method of moments in the spectral domain. Then the induced surface current density is expanded in a series of Ultraspherical polynomials of the zeroth order. The expansion coefficients are calculated numerically in the spectral domain, the numerical results of the geometricoptical reflection coefficient for the tapered resistivity in this paper are compared with those for the existing uniform resistivity. And the position of sharp variation points in the magnitude of the geometric-optical reflection coefficient can be moved by varying the incident angle and the strip spacing. It is found out that these sharp variation points are due to the transition of higher modes between the propagation mode and the evanescent mode.

  • Chalcogenide glasses are suggested as a candidate for optical recording. In this study, we have investigated the holography recording and reconstruction of the polarization state in chalcogenide As$_{40}$ Ge$_{10}$Se$_{15}$ S$_{35}$ thin films. We have used a He-Ne laser light(633nm) to probe and record of the grating. Also the polarization state of object beam was modulated with a λ/4 wave plate. The polarization state of the +1st order diffracted beam was generated by readout of the grating with a linearly polarized reference beam. It was the same-handed polarization state as the polarization state of the recording beam. The result is shown that the diffraction efficiency of circularly polarized recording represents higher than other polarization state.ate.e.

  • This paper presents a high-performance dual-circularly polarized feed employing a dielectric-filled circular waveguide. Novel features are incorporated in the proposed feed, such as a dielectric rod radiator for high gain and good impedance matching; dual quarter-wave chokes for low axial ratio over wide angles and for low back radiation; an integrated septum polarizer; and two end-launch-type coaxial-to-waveguide transitions. The proposed feed shows excellent performance at 5.0 GHz to 5.2 GHz.

  • The present paper proposes the method which improves a record and remaking efficiency of the optical pickup as applying the mirror where Phase Shift(PS) principle is applied to optical pickup. Plan to get a circularly polarized light quality above quality which is embodied through Existing Quater Wave Plate(QWP) and a function of total reflection mirror as applying PS mirror which integrates QWP with the function of the total reflection to optical pickup. In the present paper, embody circularly polarized light quality through applying PS mirror to optical pickup, and it through, plan to propose to come true the optimization of recording and remaking CD/DVD disc.
