Improved Direct Method for Computing a Closest Voltage Collapse Point (최단전압붕괴점을 계산하는 개선된 직접법)

  • This paper presents improved direct method for calculating the closest saddle node bifurcation (CSNB) point, which is also applicable to the selection of appropriate load shedding, reactive power compensation point detection. The proposed method reduced dimension of nonlinear equation compared with that of Dobson's direct method. The improved direct method, utilizing Newton Iterative method converges very quickly. But it diverges if the initial guess is not very close to CSNB. So the direct method is performed with the initial values obtained by carrying out the iterative method twice, which is considered most efficient at this time. Since sparsity techniques can be employed, this method is a good choice to a large scale system on-line application. Proposed method has been tested for 5-bus, New England 30-bus system.

  • The specifications needed for the mobile cranes are summarized as the following : 1) there may be not occured the oscillation of the cargo at unloading point. 2)the required time from departure point to destination point may be as short as possible. 3) there may be not a collapse of cargo caused by the oscillation in the course that the crago is mobilling. In this paper, the linear fractional transformation method is adopted as a method in order to improve the above mentioned problems. A design method of servo system is developed by modifying Davison's method for the case that the homogeneous differential equations of reference input and disturbance are different types. The real time control of a mobile crane system is implemented by 16bits microcomputer with A/D and D/A converters to illustrate the application of the adopted method. The experimental results for the three types of the design methods; linear fractional transformation method, servo system design method and optimal control method are shown for the comparison.

  • This paper presents an efficient method to calculate voltage collapse point and to improve static voltage stability. To evaluate static voltage stability in power systems. it is necessary to get critical loading points. For this purpose, we use linear programming to calculate efficiently voltage collapse point. And if index value becomes larger than given threshold value, vol tags stability is improved by compensation of reactive power at selected bus. This algorithm is verified by simulation on the sample system.

  • Now days, voltage stability is well recognized as an important problem. It is well known that voltage stability is influenced by the characteristics of load. Up to present, voltage stability researches were done by the static load modeling, but it is needed that the precise analysis by the view point of dynamic load modeling. In this paper, with induction motor as dynamic load, I show the voltage collapse mechanism followed by load increase. Then I propose the protective method of voltage collapse by using TCSC.

  • The distance in load parameter space to the closest voltage collapse point (CSNB) provides the worst case power margin and the left eigenvector identifies the most effective direction to steer the system to maximize voltage stability under contingency. This paper proposes a new generation redispatch algorithm, which uses left eigenvector at CSNB to enhance the voltage stability. A Newton method is used to detect CSNB point. Proposed method is applicable to the selection of appropriate reactive power compensation and load shedding point detection. But this paper make a point of voltage stability enhancement only with generation redispatch. The proposed method has been tested for Klos Kerner 11-bus system.

  • Several voltage instability/collapse problems that have occurred in the electric utility industry worldwide have gained the attention of engineers and researchers of electric power systems. This paper proposes an effective calculation scheme of the extreme loading point and nose curves(P-V curves) using modified Newton-Raphson(N-R) load flow method and the Continuation Method. This method provides detail and visual information of the power system voltage profile and operating margin ro operators and planners. In this paper, a modified load flow claculation method for ill-conditioned power systems is introduced for the purpose of seeking more precise load flow solutions and nose curves, and the Continuation Method is also used as a part of the solution algorithm for the calculation of extreme loading point and nose curves. The conventional polar coordinate based N-R load flow program is modified to avoid numerical difficulties caused by the singularity of the Jacobian matrix occuring in the vicinity of extreme loading point of heavily loaded systems. Application results of the proposed method to Klos-Kerner 11-bus system and modified IEE-30-bus system are presented to assure the usefulness of the approach.

  • In this paper there are different methods used to study the voltage stability, such as the P-V curve method. Jacobian method and the voltage collapse proximity indicator(L-index) method. The P-V curve method is to check operating margin from the maximum operating point. The Jacobian method is to check the eigenvalue or the minimum singular value of the load flow Jacobian matrix. If the power system is unstable, one of the eigenvalues, at least, has crossed the imaginary axis. The L-index method is to quantify how to close a particular operating point. This paper describes these methods to select the best location of FACTS and demonstrate the effectiveness of STATCOM of voltage stability on the IEEE 9-bus system.

  • The distance in load parameter space to the closest saddle node bifurcation (CSNB) point provides the worst case power margin to voltage instability and the left eigenvector at CSNB identifies the most effective direction to steer the system to maximize voltage stability under contingency. This paper presents an improved direct method for computing CSNB: the order of nonlinear systems equations is reduced to about twice of the size of load flow equations in contrast to about three-times in Dobson's direct method; the initial guess for the direct method is computed efficiently and robustly by combined use of continuation power flow, a pair of multiple load flow solution with Lagrange interpolation. It is also shown that voltage stability may be enhanced significantly with shift of generations in the direction of the left eigenvector at CSNB.

  • The Voltage stability problem has recently been dealt with in the literature from various points of view. The diverse theories have been established in voltage stability analysis because of the complicates of power systems and diverse phenomena of voltage collapse. Through rigorous mathematical operations, this paper shows that all the major methods used in static voltage stability, i.e - Jacobian method, voltage sensitivity method, real and reactive power loss sensitivity method and energy function method - have an identical background in theory. The results from the test in sample systems have shown the validity of this verification. (author). refs., figs., tabs.

  • This paper develops a method for reliably estimating an UEP(Unstable Equilibrium Point) which is located in the direction of SEP(Stable Equilibrium Point)'s moving as system load is getting heavy. As power systems are getting loaded heavily, the SEP which is an operable solution, and the UEP which is occurring voltage collapse, are moving toward each other linearly. The estimated UEP is used as a good initial guess for the real UEP. The proposed method is tested by 3 bus system and Stagg 5 bus system. It is demonstrated that the proposed method is very useful for assessing system voltage stability in the case of heavy loaded power system. The result solutions are often used in conjunction with energy methods and the stability margin.
