  • When the product is removed from the mold after molding during the sheet metal molding process, elastic recovery causes a springback phenomenon. Much research has been done to minimize this phenomenon. In this study, V-bending experiments were conducted using galvanized steel sheets, stainless steel, and aluminum sheet materials, using a total of nine types of thin sheet materials of 1.0t, 1.5t, and 2.0t, respectively. Molding analysis and experimental data were compared and analyzed. In the case of galvanized steel sheets, it was considered that the springback phenomenon occurs more frequently in molding analysis than in experiments. It was considered that the springback phenomenon occurs greatly in the experiment, not the interpretation of the molding of the stainless steel plate and the aluminum plate. It was considered that the springback occurrence tendency of the molding analysis and the experiment was the same, and the springback occurrence error rate of the molding analysis and the experimental result was about 4.0%.

  • In this research, the size-dependent impact of an embedded piezoelectric nanoplate subjected to in-plane loading on free vibration characteristic is studied. The foundation is two-parameter viscoelastic. The nonlocal elasticity is employed in order to capture the influence of size of the plate. By utilizing Hamilton's principle as well as the first- order shear deformation theory, the governing equation and boundary conditions are achieved. Then, using Navier method the equations associated with the free vibration of a plate constructed piezoelectric material under in-plane loads are solved analytically. The presented formulation and solution procedure are validated using other papers. Also, the impacts of nonlocal parameter, mode number, constant of spring, electric potential, and geometry of the nanoplate on the vibrational frequency are examined. As this paper is the first research in which the vibration associated with piezoelectric nanoplate on the basis of FSDT and nonlocal elasticity is investigated analytically, this results can be used in future investigation in this area.

  • In this study, modeling of the CD stud welding system was conducted considering mechanical and electrical components. The electrical components such as arc resistance, cable resistance, capacitance, internal resistance and cable inductance were found to affect the output waveform significantly. The calculated results showed food agreements with the experiment results within 20% error. The main defect of CD stud welding with 1010 steel stud and SS400 steel plate was the void trapped between stud and base metal. The effect of the spring force and stud tip size on void formation was investigated.

  • The wave washer springs are expected to behave non-linearly between forces and displace¬ments due to contractions of the height and due to expansions in radial direction. To find out the non -linearity of wave washer springs, the three dimensional plate analysis theory using the finite element method is adopted in this paper. The wave washer springs are considered to be three dimensional plate structures rather than frame structures, because their thickness is normally much smaller than their width. The displacements of nodal points due to small increment of force are calculated by the finite element method and the calculated nodal displacements are added to X - Y Z coordinates of nodal points. The new stiffness matrix of the system using the new coordinates of nodal points is adopted to calculate the another nodal displacements, that is, the step by step method is used in this paper. The relations between the increments of forces and displacements in each step are recorded and plotted in chart. The experimental results are compared with the calculated chart and it is shown that there are good coincidences between measured values and calculated ones.

  • The Power Flow Finite Element Method(PFFEM) offers very promising results in predicting the vibration responses of system structures, and the first PFFEM software, PFADS has been developed in Seoul National University for the vibration predictions and analysis of coupled system structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. PFFEM is numerical method which solves energy governing equation using finite element technique for complicated structures where the exact solutions are not available. Through the upgrades, the current version PFADS R3 could cover the general beam and plate structures including various kinds of beam-plate rigid joints, spring-damper connection and rigid body connection within beam and plate in addition. This software is composed of three parts; translator, model converter and solver. The translator makes its own FE-model from bulk data of commercial FE software, and the model converter is used to convert FE-model to PFFE-model automatically. The solver calculates vibrational energy density and intensity for PFFE-model by solving global matrix equations of PFFEM. For the applications of PFADS R3, two vehicle models and a container model are examined with respect to major parameters, and reliable results are obtained.

  • A flexible forming apparatus is composed a number of punches which have spherical pin tip shape instead of conventional solid die. The flexible forming tool consisted of punch array in a matrix form was proposed as an alternative forming method to substitute the conventional line heating method which use heat source to induce residual stress along specified heating lines. In this study, application of the flexible forming process to the small scale curved plate forming was conducted. Numerical simulations for both solid and flexible die forming process were carried out to compare the shape of the products between flexible and conventional die forming process. In addition, spring-back analysis was conducted to figure out the feasibility of the flexible forming process comparing with the die forming process in view of final configuration of the specimens. Moreover, experiment was also carried out to confirm the formability of the process. Consequently, it was confirmed that the flexible die forming method has capability and feasibility to manufacture the curved plates for shipbuilding.

  • Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) is used to estimate friction and spring characteristics on the swash plate of a variable displacement pump. In earlier studies, the feasibility of the approach was established using simulation studies to establish limits of accuracy for the EKF approach when it was applied to an ideal situation. In this study, the EKF is applied to an experimental system and the issue of re liability in estimation of certain pump parameters is addressed. In addition, an approach to assign values to accommodate convergence of the EKF is considered. A special experimental system was set up to facilitate the measurement of certain states to enhance the EKF approach. Estimated parameters show ed some scatter about a specified operating point but in general, were reasonably repeatable. The study also showed that changes in the system parameters could be accurately tracked.

  • In the present study, the isolation of selenium (Se)-enriched bacteria from rumen fluid and hot spring water was carried out. Rumen fluid samples were taken from cannulated goats fed a basal diet and the water samples were collected from Selayang hot spring, Selangor-Malaysia. A total number of 140 Se-tolerant isolates were obtained aerobically using an Se-enriched medium and spread plate technique. All the isolates were initially screened for the ability to transform the Se-containing medium to a red-orange culture using a spectrophotometer. Twenty isolates of dark red-orange medium were selected for a screening of the highest Se-containing protein accumulating strains using the dialysis technique and icp.ms to measure the Se content. Four isolates, identified as Enterobacter cloacae (ADS1, ADS7, and ADS11), and Klebsiella pneumoniae (ADS2) from rumen fluid origin, as well as, one isolate from hot spring water (Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (ADS18)), were associated with the highest biomass organic Se-containing protein when grown in a medium enriched with $10{\mu}g/ml$ sodium selenite. In addition, around $50{\mu}g/100{\mu}g$ of the absorbed inorganic Se was accumulated as an organic form. Organic Se-containing protein in all the selected strains showed antioxidant properties in the range of 0.306 to 0.353 Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) mg/ml. Therefore, these strains may offer a potential source of organic Se due to their Se-tolerant nature and higher biomass organic to inorganic Se ratio.

  • This paper investigates the vibrational damping characteristics of laminated plates composed of elastic, viscoelastic and elastic layers by theoretical and experimental methods. Laminated plates are in cylindrical bending and visco-elastic adhesive layer is assumed as the visco-elastic spring which takes damping effect through both shear and normal deformations. Governing equations oof laminated plates are derived in the form of simultaneous first order differential equations, which account for the longitudinal displacements, rotary inertia and shear deformations of elastic base plate and elastic constraining plate. The numerical calculations of the equations are illustrated by the applications to the cantilever beam in transverse vibration. The results of the solutions agree well with the experimental measurements in general. The damping effects due to the shear and thickness deformations in the adhesives are analyzed and it is shown that for thicker adhesives, the damping effect due to thickness deformation becomes significant and for thinner adhesives, due to shear deformation.
