This paper investigates the time dependent behaviour of Haarajoki test embankment on soft structured clay deposit. Half of the embankment is constructed on an area improved with prefabricated vertical drains, while the other half is constructed on the natural deposit without any ground improvement. To analyse the PVD-improved subsoil, axisymmetric vertical drains were converted into equivalent plane strain conditions using three different approaches. The construction and consolidation of the embankment are analysed with the finite element method using a recently developed anisotropic model for time-dependent behaviour of soft clays. The constitutive model, namely ACM-S accounts for combined effects of plastic anisotropy, interparticle bonding and degradation of bonds and creep. For comparison, the problem is also analysed with isotropic Soft Soil Creep and Modified Cam Clay models. The results of the numerical analyses are compared with the field measurements. The results show that neglecting effects of anisotropy, destructuration and creep may lead to inaccurate predictions of soft clay response. Additionally, the numerical results show that the matching methods accurately predict the consolidation behaviour of the embankment on PVD improved soft clays and provide a useful tool for engineering practice.
The appropriate description of the stress-anisotropy and time-dependent behavior of cohesive soils is very important in representing the real soil behavior. In this study, two constitutive relations have been incorporated based on the generalized viscous theory: one is the plastic constitutive relation adopted to capture the stress-anisotropy with a few model parameters; the other is the rate-dependent constitutive relation adopted to describe the strain rate-dependent behavior, an important time-dependent behavior in cohesive soils. The incorporated and proposed constitutive model has relatively a few model parameters and their values need not to be re-evaluated at different strain rates. The proposed model has been verified and investigated with the anisotropic triaxial test results obtained by using the artificial homogeneous specimens.

To enhance the CAE accuracy, the definition of material behavior is one of key influence on the result. In case of plastic material with fiber reinforcement, the anisotropic material behavior should be taken into account to increase of CAE accuracy. BASF has developed an innovative CAE tool, ULTRASIM$^R$, which is capable of generating material models of thermoplastic materials for structural simulation. ULTRASIM$^R$, not only the glass fiber orientation effect, but also the weld line effect, tensile-compression anisotropy, strain rate effect are combined in a non-linear material law, which will be evaluated in a unique failure criterion, thus resulting in an highly accurate CAE approach.
Wrinkling is one of the major defects in sheet metal products and may be also attributable to the wear of the tool. The initiation and growth of wrinkles are influenced by many factors such as stress state, mechanical properties of the sheet material, geometry of the body, and contact condition. It is difficult to analyze the wrinkling initiation and growth considering the factors because the effects of the factors are very complex and the wrinkling behavior may show a wide variation for small deviations of the factors. In this study, the bifurcation theory is introduced for the finite element analysis of wrinkling initiation and growth. All the above mentioned factors are conveniently considered by the finite element method. The finite element formulation is based on the incremental deformation theory and elastic-plastic elements considering the planar anisotropy of the sheet metal. The proposed method is verified by employing a column buckling problem. And then, the initiation and growth of wrinkling in deep drawing of cylindrical cup are analyzed.
Zr addition is known as effective method to improve the anisotropy of steel due to the elongated MnS inclusions which are observed in hot forged steels. The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of Zr addition on the mechanical properties and manganese sulphide morphology of 0.27%C-Cr-Mo plastic mold steel. The ingots were prepared by vacuum induction melting and forged to ${\Phi}35mm$ round bar. Forged bars were quenched and tempered at $560{\sim}640^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. Jominy test, microstructual observation, tensile test and Charpy impact test were conducted. The morphology of MnS inclusions was changed by Zr addition. The shape of MnS inclusions was not so much lengthened and controlled not to be elongated by Zr inclusions which surround the MnS inclusions. Tensile strength and yield strength of the tempered steels were not nearly affected by the addition of Zr, but elongation and reduction of area were decreased. Especially, the toughness of Zr added steels was deteriorated with increasing of Zr content. From the results of this study, it is assumed that anisotropy of steels was improved by the addition of Zr. However, impact toughness of the steel was significantly decreased by the excessive Zr addition (over 0.066%).

A mathematical formulation is presented to model anisotropy from the deformation textures developed in a forming process. In this work, a micro-mechanical-based polycrystalline analysis is implemented into a consistent finite element method for the anisotropic, viscoplastic deformation of polycrystalline metals. As suggested by Taylor, the deformation of each grain in an aggregate is assumed to be same as the macroscopic deformation of an aggregate or a macro-continuum point. Algorithms are developed to represent the plastic anisotropy, such as the anisotropic yield surface and R-value, from the predicted deformation texture. As applications, the evolution of texture in rolling, upsetting and drawing/extrusion processes are simulated and the corresponding changes of mechanical properties such as yield surface and R-value are predicted.
This paper investigates the effect of strain rate on the anisotropic deformation behavior of advanced high strength steel sheets. Uniaxial tensile tests were carried out on TRIP590 and DP780 steel sheets at strain rates ranging from 0.001/sec to 100/sec to determine yield stresses and r-values at various loading angles from the reference rolling direction. R-values were determined by the digital image correlation technique. Hill48 and Yld2000-2d yield functions were tested for their capability to describe the plastic deformation anisotropy of the materials. Initial yield loci were constructed using the Yld2000-2d yield function, which adequately described the anisotropic behavior of the materials. The shape of the initial yield loci was found to change with different strain rate, and the anisotropic behavior decreased with increasing strain rate.

The anisotropic mechanical properties were measured for the three orthogonal orientations of plain weave glass fabric reinforced epoxy resin laminate. In tensile and flexural tests, axial and edge type specimens failed by pull-out of warp and fill yarns, respectively. In contrast, the thickness type specimens failed by adhesive failure process. Longitudinal cracking occurred in several of the edge type specimens during tensile test. That cracking caused pop-in in the stress-strain curve. Defects induced by improper coupon machining caused that cracking.

A variational formulation and the associated finite elemet equations have been derived for general three-dimensional deformation of a planar anisotropic rigid-plastic sheet metal which obeys the strain-rate potential proposed by BARLAT et al [13]. By using the natural convected coordinate system, the effect of geometric change and the rotation of planar anisotropic axes are considered efficiently. In order to check the validity of present formulation, a cylindrical cup and a square cup deep drawing test was modeled. good agreement was found between the FE simulation and the experiment. The results have shown that the present formulation for planar anisotropic deformation can be efficiently applied to the analysis of sheet metal working processes for planar anisotropic nonferrous metals.
This study analyzed the mechanical behavior of lithium-ion battery pouch material and predicted its formability. A homogenization method was used to evaluate the physical properties of the pouch, and a new hardening model was developed. The yield function for the plastic model was optimized, and the anisotropic property was determined. Also, the forming limits were measured and predicted using the M-K forming limit diagram. Finally, a square cup drawing experiment confirmed the accuracy of the measured mechanical properties and the formability calculation.
