Recently there have been great interest in the street landscapes, and numerous studies have been investigating shaping processes of urban landscapes, legal systems for scenery management, landscape preference and evaluation techniques. However, there are only few studies investigating how planting types influence on street landscape evaluation and how the relationships among street landscapes are. This study aims to make a guidelines which can be used for securing afforestation in urban settings and improving urban environment. In specific, the results of this study can provide guidelines for urban street design and the base knowledge for identifying appropriate requirements for better street landscapes. We identify factors which make shape certain images of street landscape, and draw physical factors influencing on visual appropriateness through visual landscapes evaluation process. To evaluate landscapes according to planting types, on-the-spot survey at 14 streets in Gang-Nam district were made. The district is under executing street improving projects and shows the most satisfying planting types. To evaluate street landscapes which people experience during their walking, 100m of continuous streets are chosen. The survey sites exclude streets with irregular pattern, are adjacent to large urban parks or are used as parking spaces in part. We evaluated 9 street landscapes classified into 1-line-planting, 2-line-planting and 3-line-planting on the basis of the location of planting and the planting methods.

This study, as a purpose of base study for landscape redevelopement of Seowon, pointed out problems of planting patterns in each sector and suggested an alternative through analyzing old literature, complete enumeration survey in each sector and taking aerial images. the conclusions drawn from this study are as follows. A Pilam Seowon(historic site no 242) is located in a Pyungya-Sanrok(plain and mountain) district in Jangsung-gun and has Junhak-Humyo(Study room in the front and Shirne in the back) type. 23 taxonomic group of arbor, 6 taxonomic group of shrub and 5 taxonomic group of flowers are planted high-densitily in limited flat surface. It can be classified into being planted by family and being planted through landscape redevelopement in 1980s. Korean traditional trees are planted in this area like Pinus densiflora, Juniperus chinensis L., Thuja orientalis L., Zelkova serrato Makino, Sophora japonica L., Lagerstroemia indica, Prunus mume include Ginkgo biloba which is old big tree and is registered in Jangsung-gun as protected trees. The tea tree in this area was introduced from wild tea plantation in Yonhwa moutain and was planted. From now on, we have to pay consideration a form management of planted trees in the historical area, rearrangement of plant density due to over planting, removal of alien trees like Pinus bungeana and Canna generalisa, prevention a dwarfishness of main area due to over planting in outside facilities, recovery a alienation among each planting area, and planting concept from plants drawings on wall of buildings can be suggested. The implications of this case study is that introduction of over planting can make more problems like losing sense of place. Therefore, we must do a actual state survey on traditional landscape area like Seowon from preservation point of view.

This study aimed to identify the optimal street tree planting method to improve the summer thermal environment in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The effects of road direction and street tree planting patterns on urban thermal environments using ENVI-met simulations were analyzed. The 68 scenarios were analyzed based on four road directions and 17 planting patterns. The results showed that tree planting had a reducing air temperature, mean radiant temperature, human thermal sensation (PET and UTCI). The most effective planting pattern among all scenarios was low tree height (6m), wide crown width (9m), high leaf area index (3.0), and narrow planting interval (8m). The largest improvement in the thermal environment was the northern sidewalk of the east-west road. Since this study used computer simulations, the difference from real urban spaces should be considered, and further research is needed through field measurement and consideration of more variables.

The soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.], an edible legume, has a high protein content in both its hay and grain, so it is often used as a supplement for other forages that have a deficient protein concentration. Therefore, this study investigated the forage quality and yield in the case of mixed planting of soybean and corn. The forage yield and quality were assessed for three cropping patterns: soybean mono planting, corn mono planting, and mixed planting of soybean and corn. For planting, this study used a forage corn cultivar, Kwangpyeongok, and three recombinant inbreed lines, W2, W4, and W11, selected from Glycine soja (PI483463)${\times}$G. max (Hutcheson). The mixed planting of soybean and corn produced a higher forage yield than the corn mono cropping. The crude protein and crude fat content were also increased with the mixed planting of soybean and corn when compared with the corn mono cropping. Some decrease of ADF and NDF, and increase for RFV in mixed planting of soybean and corn than corn mono cropping. Therefore, the results show that mixed planting of soybean and corn is an effective cropping system to improve the forage quality.
In Asian countries, paddy field is indispensable for our lives not only as a source of food but also ecosystem, hydrology, landscape, culture and global warming. In this sense it is necessary to get the detailed spatial distribution of paddy field in Asian region. Remote sensing seems to be the most appropriate tool to estimate paddy field. In this study, two Terra/ASTER images acquired on different date were used to get a map of paddy field with different planting. ASTER's 15-m resolution was found to be enough to be recognize individual paddy field . Paddies with different planting stages were divided into five types using their spectral patterns. As a result a map of paddies with different planting was obtained with tolerably high accuracy.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data of the growth characteristics of the landscape trees for better landscape planting design, construction and maintenance through the prediction of landscape change as time passes fly the analysis of survival rate, distribution patterns & increment percent of tree height, width, stem diameter (breast or surface) of widely used six tree species in Seongnam-si Eunhang-jugong apartment housing areas (8 years have passed after landsape alanting work). The main results can be summarized as followed. The tree survival rate of Pinus parviflora was the highest rate 89.2% than any other species, but Acer buergerianum showed the lowest survival rate at that of it 35.0%, & that of Picea abies 70.5 %, Metasequoia glyptostroboides 71.6%, Maknolia denudata 38.9%, Acer paimatum was 71.7%, As a whole, the tree survival rate of coniferous trees were relatively high. The tree height increment percent of the deciduous species wert relatively high. And that of Metasequoia glyptostroboides was the highest rate 11.61% than any other species, but that of Magnolia denudata was the lowest rate 5.59% than any other species. According to this results, the increment percent of trees in this apartment areas were comparatively lower than that of each related species planted in nursery area. And this results would be considered when landscape experts do landscape planting design, construction & maintenance. The distribution patterns of present tree size showed a Normal Distribution like any other biological features.

This is an empirical study to investigate the types of plants used in Gertrude Jekyll's wild gardens, identify relationships between plants, and analyze the planting patterns. Four sites were chosen for the study: the Cotswold Cottage, the Dryton Wood, the Little Aston, and the Frant Court. To find direct relationships between plants from the planting patterns shown in these gardens, the social network analysis program R was used to analyze degree centrality, which resulted in the identification of top three plants, followed by looking into their characteristics and meanings. The summary of the results is: Azaleas(Rhododendron spp.) showed the highest degree centrality, followed by wild roses (Rosa spp.). Cold-resistant crossbreed azaleas were used as underplanting connected to many different plants, creating the feeling of an atypical woodland garden. As an indigene, wild roses showed high degree centrality in terms of ecology and aesthetics, forming multiple layer planting. Also, plants with small white flowers, for example rowans(Sorbus commixta), shadbush(Amelanchier asiatica), sealwort(Polygonatum odoratum), and American columbines(Aquilegia vulgaris) were planted in these wild gardens as plant colonies to make natural connections with other plants through drifts.
A comparison was made the differences of growth and some yield components of two soybean ecotypes (summer and two autumn types) at different planting dates (15 April, 15 May, and 15 June) and also made the different patterns of dry matter accumulation of one summer type and two autumn types of soybeans at Agricultural Experiment Farm, College of Agriculture, Dankook University, Cheonan City, in 1987. [Planting date experiment] Days to emergence of four varieties were observed no difference. and, therefore, it was speculated that field observation of the difference of cold tolerence between varieties was difficult. Shortening rate of flowering clays as planting dates delayed was no different between two ecotypes, summer vs. autumn types of soybean. Summer types, DN82029-3 and ES18085-1, were observed not greater difference of days to maturity between early and late planting dates as compared with that of autumn types, Changyeobkong and Paldalkong. At late planting, summer types were observed more to hasten days to ripening due to high temperature in late growing season than that of autumn types. This caused to decrease somewhat greater rate of some yield componments, and finally yield as planting date delayed. As compared to autumn types, summer types, DN82029-3 and ES18085-1 showed longer stem height and lower airdry weight at late planting. [Dry matter accumulation pattern] Stem elongation after flowering of three varieties, DN82029-3, Changyeobkong and Danyeobkong, ranged 17 to 32 cm and increment of leaf area index 0.83-1.53. DN82029-3 reached 49 days faster in maximum total dry weight than that of autumn types, Changyeobkong and Danyeobkong. However. maximum total dry weight of DN82029-3 showed 50% to autumn types. At 15 May planting, summer type, day-neutrality, transfered faster into reproductive growth phase without enough growth of vegetative growth and also hastened ripening days, and thus lower dry matter accumulation and finally lower yield.

The purpose of this study is to create a planting design for progressive realization. For this, visual preferences as measured via questionnaire were evaluated by the Scenic Beauty Estimation(SBE) and paired comparison methods. The results can be summarized as follows. Through photo observation, the average visual blockage ratio was 38% and the range of degree of the visual blockage ratio was $30{\sim}50%$. The sketch simulation and filtered pattern received the highest preference score and fumed out to be the most practical pattern out of all the patterns evaluated. Also, in the sketch simulation, the high preference values were observed for a distance of 9 to 12m from the view point to the blockage tree with a D/H ratio of 2. The preference score significantly decreased with the increase of the visual blockage ratio having a turning point at $30{\sim}35%$ of the visual blockage ratio, even though the distance parameters were more important than the visual blockage ratio in the scores. An outstanding view must be handled properly to be preserved or accentuated. Framed, open, enclosed, screened or filtered pattern views should be completely revealed only from their best vantage point, not given away at first glimpse. It this sense, parallax spatial beauty with trees could be improved through the visual aspects of plan arrangements and seems to be an effective design technique for landscape planning and planting design.

This study was carried out to analyze the vertical and horizontal distribution of fine root biomass of Pinus thunbergii transplanted in reclaimed land from the sea near Gwangyang Bay. The fine-root biomass according to 6 planting ground types were as follows: 98.5 g DM/$m^2$ for P2, 51.1 g DM/$m^2$ for P6, 47.8 g DM$m^2$ for P5, 44.6 g DM/$m^2$ for P3, 38.2 g DM/$m^2$ for P4, 31.8 g DM/$m^2$ for Pl, respectively. The vertical distribution of fine root biomass decreased at descending soil depths of the 6 mounding types. Fine root biomass was 31∼55% in the topsoil of 20cm depth. Fine root biomass that were related to the Spatial distance from the nearest tree were unevenly distributed horizontally in 6 stands. distribution patterns of fine root biomass were closely related to soil hardness and alkalic cation (Ca++, Mg++, Na+, K+) concentrations. Therefore, in order to have good condition for the growth of landscaping plants, we suggest that there is a need for the construction of planting grounds as well as a need for soil improvement in bad soil environments.
