This study analyzed the efficiency and uniformity by measuring the temperature change depending on the position in the chamber with the use of QRD (quadratic residue diffusor) microwave capable of inducing even sterilization by changing wavelength phase difference and enhancing the effect on low power. The results are summarized as follows: When irradiating 7 kW of QRD microwave, the highest efficiency was obtained at 35 cm height and in the center of the chamber. When irradiating 5 kW of QRD microwave, high efficiency was obtained on the sides of the chamber. When irradiating 3 kW of QRD microwave to Magnetrons 1, 2 and 3, the temperature uniformity according to the position of the bars was similar in the position of Bar 1 and 2. When irradiating 3 kW of QRD microwave to Magnetrons 3, 4 and 5, the temperature increased by approximately 10 to 20% in Bar 3. When irradiating 5, 7 and 9 kW of magnetron, the average temperature during the irradiation time increased in a similar form independently of the position of the bars. On the other hand, the efficiency of the chamber's proper internal volume was not necessarily proportional to the irradiation dose. When irradiating 3 kW of magnetron for 60 120 and 180 seconds, the temperature increased by approximately 5 to 10 at the edge of the chamber according to the irradiation position of magnetron. The temperature distribution for each position in the horizontal plane was relatively uniform, and the temperature had a tendency to slightly increase at the edge. When irradiating 5, 7 and 9 kW of magnetron, the temperature relatively evenly increased independently of the position of the bars. It was thought necessary to increase the irradiation dose by approximately 10 to 20% by considering the difference in temperature rise according to the position of magnetron.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of transplanting methods on the growth and yield of paprika (Capsicumannuum L. 'Veyron' and 'Coletti') in coir culture during two seasons. The summer type sowed in late winter and harvested from summer and the winter type sowed in summer and harvested from early winter. Control plants grown on the 10cm rockwool block were transplanted on coir slab when the 8 leaves of seedlings were emerged, while plants of the young seedling transplanting(YST) grown on the 7cm rockwool block was put on the slab at time of 2-3 leaves developed. Plants of the temporary transplanting(TT) on the 10cm rockwool block were moved on the slab after 2-3 weeks underpinning cultivation, while plants of the blockless transplanting(BT) were directly transplanted in the slab when the seedlings have 2-3 leaves emerged. The plant height of the control and BT treatment were longer while that of TT showed the shortest among treatments. The bigger leaf size was observed in the YST and BT treatment. Leaf number of the BT treatment was increased, while that of TT was the lowest. There were no differences in fruit size, locules and thickness among treatments. The lower fruit weight was observed in the TT of the winter culture and fruits in the control and YST of the summer culture showed higher fruit weight. The percentage of marketable fruit appeared to be slightly higher in the winter culture than in the summer culture. There were no differences in marketable fruit rate among the treatments of the winter culture but, among the summer culture, the highest marketable fruit rate was observed in the BT with 93%. The yield of the YST and BT was higher and that of the TT was the lowest.

A new form of I-type PSC bridge girder, which has hole in the web, is proposed in this paper. Three different concepts were combined and implemented in the design. First of all, a girder was precast at a manufacturing plant as divided pieces and assembled at the construction site using post-tensioning method, and the construction period at the site will be reduced dramatically. In this way, the quality of concrete can be assured at the manufacturing factory and concrete curing can be well controlled, and the spliced girder segments can be moved to the construction site without a transportation problem. Secondly, a numerous number of holes was made in the web of the girder. This reduces the self-weight of the girder. But more important thing related to the holes is that about half of the total anchorages can be moved from the girder ends into individual holes. The magnitude of negative moment developed at girder ends will be reduced. Also, since the longitudinal compressive stresses are reduced at ends, thick end diaphragm is not necessary. Thirdly, Prestressing force was introduced into the member through multiple stages. This concept of multi-stage prestressing method overcomes the prestressing force limit restrained by the allowable stresses at each loading stage, and maximizes the magnitude of applicable prestressing force. It makes the girder longer and shallower. Two 50 meter long full scale girders were fabricated and tested. One of them was non-spliced, or monolithic girder, made as one piece from the beginning, and the other one was assembled using post-tensioning method from five pieces of segments. It was found from the result that monolithic and spliced girder show similar load-deflection relationships and crack patterns. Girders satisfied specific girder design specification in flexural strength, deflection, and live load deflection control limit. Both spliced and monolithic holed web post-tensioned girders can be used to achieve span lengths of more than 50m with the girder height of 2 m.

This study was conducted to investigate optimal crop loads of 'Jinok' grape for unheated plastic house culture. The crop loads of 'Jinok' grapes were managed to be 1.3, 1.8, 2.2, 2.4, and 2.6t per 10a from 2012 to 2014. We measured vine growth and berry qualities. Crop loads were not significantly affected on plant height, trunk diameter, shoot length, and the internode length of 'Jinok'. However, the maturation of berries was delayed when the crop load was higher. And the harvest date was earlier about three weeks in an unheated plastic house compared to in an open field. The average berry weight was decreased by the higher crop load although higher crop loads made higher yields showing the lowest weight at 342g with the treatment of 2.6t per 10a and the highest weight at 363g with the treatment of 1.3t per 10a. Also, the soluble solids content showed a tendency that higher crop loads brought to lower degree Brix. The contents of P, K, Ca, and Mg in grape leaves and shoots were not significantly different by crop loads. To sum up, when crop loads were under the 2.4t per 10a, the berries were harvested as a marketable fruit having $15^{\circ}Brix$ in the cultivar 'Jinok' grape. This result could help to increase grower's benefit having improved quality of fruit for the sustainable production by the established cultivation techniques for the newly developed cultivar 'Jinok'.
This study was conducted to analysis the chemical properties of Peunggang river and investigate the effect of irrigation sources on the growth of tomato and cucumber. The salt concentration in Peunggang river was high by $3.22{\sim}3.62dS{\cdot}m^{-1}s$ from March to May and lower gradually from April to February of next year, which was also lower in upper stream than in middle or low stream of Peunggang river. The growth such as plant height, fresh weight and dry weight in tomato and cucumber was better in drain water and tap water irrigation than in PR water (Peunggang river) irrigation. Mean fruit weight was highest in the tap water, and that of cucumber was no significance in the treatments. The number of setting fruit was lower in the PR water than in the treatments, and which was no significance between rain water and tap water. The yield of tomato and cucumber was found to be highest by 10,594 and 11,826 kg/10a in tap water, respectively and also lowest in the PR water among the three treatments. The fruit quality, soluble solids of tomato shows a tendency to increase in the PR water as compared with the other treatment, and the rate of blossom-end rote was higher by 13.6% in the PR water. T-N and P content of tomato and cucumber were no significance in the treatments. Ca content was lowest, but Na content highest in the PR water. It was thought that a rain water and tap water as alternative irrigation source of a PR water were proper.
To find out the optimum application method of slow-releasing fertilizer(SRF) and conventional fertilizer(CF) with different fertilization rate under two culture methods[l0-day old seedling machine transplanting(MT) and direct-sowing on dry paddy(DS)] in the south-western region(clay loam soil) of Korea, used were Chosun slow-releasing fertilizer(silicate latex coated fertilizer: N-P$_2$O$_{5}$-K$_2$O =18-12-13) and conventional fertilizer. Plant height and number of tillers with different two culture methods were higher at MT than DS in early growth. The ratio of dry weight in heading stage was higher at CF than SRF in MT than DS and especially, SRF 80% + CF 20% than SRF 100% or CF 100%. Leaf area index (LAI) in heading stage was higher at CF in MT but higher at SRF in DS than their counterparts. Chlorophyll content was higher at SRF than in CF expect for heading stage(HS), especially in DS. It was highest at HS in CF without its difference during maximum tillering stage(MTS) and panicle formation stage(PFS), while highest at PFS in SRF with tendency of gradual increase and decrease before and after PFS, respectively. Heading was delayed 2~3 days at SRF in two cultrue methods and 4~5 days at SRF in DS in comparison with CF in MT with delay of 2 days at DS compared with MT. Culm length was longer at CF in MT and at SRF in DS than their counterparts. Panicle number per m was more at SRF and in DS. Filled grain ratio was higher at CF and in MT. Yield was obtained 101 and 100% at 100% and 80% level of SRF in DS respectively, and 96% at 80% level of CF in MT, compared with conventional application method (516kg /l0a), and increased 2~4% at DS and 0~3% at MT in SRF. Yield was high in order of 100%(SRF) =80%(SRF) + 20%(CF) > 100%(SRF) + 20%(CF) > 80%(SRF) at MT and 80%(SRF) + 20%(CF) =100%(SRF) > 80%(SRF) =100%(SRF) + 20%(CF) at DS.
A mutant for chalky endosperm and genetic male sterility (GMS) was newly developed in rice. The two characters were found to be controlled by single recessive gene which has pleiotropic effect, indicating that chalky seeds should be GMS seeds in segregating populations. Chalky seeds showed the same shape and size as normal seeds. However, starch composition of central part of endosperm was looser and shape of starch granules was rounder compared with normal endosperm, resulting in significantly lower grain weight, absolute density and grain hardness in chalky grains than in normal ones. Amylose content and gel consistency of chalky grains were much lower and harder, respectively. Male sterile plants showed much shorter plant height, poorer panicle exsertion and lesser panicle number compared with normal plants. Microspore abortion stage in pollen developmental process was observed as before meiosis. Male sterility of the mutant was stable regadless of temperature and day length. A system breeding hybrid rice using this mutant was discussed, comp ring with other systems utilizing cytoplasmic-genic male sterility(CGMS) and environment sensitive GMS(EGMS). Separation of GMS seeds in mixed seed bulks by specific gravity (1.14∼1.16g / cm3) was successful about 85∼90%. But some mixed normal plants were seemed to be easily removed by the apparent difference in growth characters at seedling stage. The highest natural outcrossing rate of this GMS line was as 17.3 % in a plot treated with 2-row pollinator, I-row GMS, and GA3 + cutting of flag leaf + pollen-scattering by rope.

This experiment was conducted to figure out the change of soil physical properties, rice growth and yield with the years of continuous cultivation in direct dry-seeding and no-tillage machine transplanting. Experiments were conducted at NHAES(National Honam Agricultural Experiment Station, RDA, Iksan, Cheon Buk Province, South Korea) with a rice variety "Dongjinbyeo" from 1995 to 2000. In no-tillage machine transplanting cultivation, organic matter in soil was higher than that on direct dry-seeding and was significantly high in topsoil. Problematic weed species were E. crus-galli B., A. keisak H., and L. japonica M. Plant height and tiller number m-2 were higher in common-tillage during the total growth duration. The highest weedy rice occurrence of 27.5% was observed in live years' continuous direct dry-seeding and followed by 6.2%, in four years', and 3.7%, in three years'. The highest yield reduction of 38% was observed in five years' continuous direct dry-seeding. The reduction may resulted from the competition between weedy rice and cultivated rice.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of water depths on seedling stand and early growth of califonia rice varieties, S201, M202, A301, Italico livorno and Korean variety, Hwaseongbyeo, and barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli) The coleoptile length of rice was longer with deep water depth while for the radicle length shorten. As water depth was increased, the percentage of seedling stand were decreased slightly in rice, while sharply increased in barnyardgrass. Plant height of rice with increasing water depth were longer, whereas that of barnyardgrass reduced significantly with weaker. Tiller number of rice and barnyardgrass were significantly reduced as water depth increased. Dry matter weight and healthy score of rice seedling at 35DAS were highest in 7.5cm water depth followed saturated moisture, 15, and 22.5cm water depth, while for barnyardgrass those were especially negatively affected by deep water depth. These results showed that the seedling stand and early growth of barnyardgrass was highly suppressed by deeper water levels compared with rice. Rice cultivars which are showes growth characteristics in deeper water levels at early growth stage were Italico livorno and S201 in Japonica / Indica.
Poor establishment of white dover (Trifolium repens L.) into grass-dominant pastures has been limited its availability. The experiment was done to clarify the effects of timing of initial defoliation, defoliation frequency on the regrowth and nodule formation of the clover cultivars during 28-day regrowing period. Individual plants of cv. Regal, Louisiana S-1 (La. S-1), Grasslands Huia (Huia) and Aberystwyth S184 (S184) were grown in containers until grown to unifoliolate, 1, 2, 4, or 8 trifoliolate stage, and then clipped to 1cm in height every 7 or 28 day for 28 days. To measure the effects, plants were sampled immediately after final harvest, and 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28 days after the harvest. Shoot, root dry weight and biomass were reduced with earlier, more frequent defoliation or shorter regrowing period. In frequent defoliation shoot dry weight and biomass were increased with delayed initial defoliation while in less frequent defoliation steeply done when initial defoliation was delayed to 4 trifoliolate stage. Shoot /Root ratio inclined with more frequent defoliation or lengthened regrowing period, and was greater in initial defoliation of unifoliolate to 2 trifoliolate than the others. Although nodules no. per plant declined with earlier or more frequent defoliation, the effect disappeared to some extent after 14-day regrowth. In comparison with the others, Regal had the highest shoot. dry weight and biomass to 2 trifoliolate stage while S184 did the most nodules regardless of defoliation timing. On 7-day after last defoliation nodule formation of Regal, Huia and S184 but on 28-day after last defoliation that of La. S-1, Huia and S184 was positively correlated to shoot and root dry weights upto 2 trifoliolate stage. On the former day, however, that was negatively correlated to Shoot /Root ratio upto 1 trifoliolate stage although on the latter day it was not, meaning that in addition to more frequent defoliation earlier defoliation was harmful in nodule formation of white clover.
