  • The analysis of the depth measurement system with multi-sensors (laser, camera, mirror) has been done and the parameter calibration technique has been proposed. In the proposed depth measurement system, the laser beam is reflected to the object by the rotating mirror and again the position of the laser beam is observed through the same mirror by the camera. The depth of the object pointed by the laser beam is computed depending on the pixel position on the CCD. There involved several number of internal and external parameters such as inter-pixel distance, focal length, position and orientation of the system components in the depth measurement error. In this paper, it is shown through the error sensitivity analysis of the parameters that the most important parameters in the sense of error sources are the angle of the laser beam and the inter pixel distance.

  • The H.264/AVC standard has adopted new coding tools such as intra-prediction, variable block size, motion estimation with quarter-pixel-accuracy, loop filter, and so on. The adoption of these tools enables an H.264/AVC-coded bitstream to have more information than was possible with previous standards. In this paper, we propose an effective spatial error concealment method with low complexity in H.264/AVC intra-frame. From information included in an H.264/AVC-coded bitstream, we use prediction modes of intra-blocks to recover a damaged block. This is because the prediction direction in each prediction mode is highly correlated to the edge direction. We first estimate the edge direction of a damaged block using the prediction modes of the intra-blocks adjacent to a damaged block and classify the area inside the damaged block into edge and flat areas. Our method then recovers pixel values in the edge area using edge-directed interpolation, and recovers pixel values in the flat area using weighted interpolation. Simulation results show that the proposed method yields better video quality than conventional approaches.

  • An adaptive bit-reduced mean absolute difference (ABRMAD) is presented as a criterion for the block-matching algorithm (BMA) to reduce the complexity of the VLSI Implementation and to improve the processing time. The ABRMAD uses the lower pixel resolution of the significant bits instead of full resolution pixel values to estimate the motion vector (MV) by examining the pixels Ina block. Simulation results show that the 4-bit ABRMAD has competitive mean square error (MSE)results and a half less hardware complexity than the MAD criterion, It has also better characteristics in terms of both MSE performance and hardware complexity than the Minimax criterion and has better MSE performance than the difference pixel counting(DPC), binary block-matching with edge-map(BBME), and bit-plane matching(BPM) with the same number of bits.

  • In low bit-rate video transmission, the payload of a single packet can often contain a whole coded frame due to the high compression ratio in both spatial and temporal domains of most modern video coders. Thus, the loss of a single packet not only causes the loss of a whole frame, but also produces error propagation into subsequent frames. In this paper, we propose a novel whole frame error concealment algorithm which reconstructs the first of the subsequent frames instead of the current lost frame to suppress the effects of error propagation. In the proposed algorithm, we impose a constraint which uses side match distortion (SMD) and overlapped region difference (ORD) to estimate motion vectors between the target reconstructed frame and its reference frame. SMD measures the spatial smoothness connection between a block and its neighboring blocks. ORD is defined as the difference between the correlated pixels which are predicted from one reference pixel. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm effectively suppresses error propagation and significantly outperforms other conventional techniques in terms of both peak signal-to-noise ratio performance and subjective visual quality.

  • In this study, we proposes the method to improve the quality of the image through the edge extraction more delicately. Our method is named ESII(Edge Sensitive Image Interpolation) and doesn't use the fixed parameter of the interpolation kernel. However, it changes the parameter of pixel which is interpolated to the high definition image using the proper information from the surrounding pixels. It reconstructs the image by using the LSE(Least Square Error) and determining the pixel values to make the CME(Camera Modelling Error) minimized. Compared to the conventional methods, suggested method shows the higher quality of subjective and objective image definition and lessons the computational complexity by separating the image into 1-D data.

  • The design of large area thin film transistor liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCDs) requires consideration of cross-talks between the data lines and pixel electrodes. These limits are imposed by the parasitic capacitive elements present in a pixel. The capacitive coupling of the data line signal onto the pixel causes a pixel voltage error. In this study semi-empirical capacitance model which is adopted from VLSI interconnection capacitance calculations was used to calculate mutual coupling capacitances. With calculated mutual coupling capacitances and given image pattern, the root mean square(RMS) voltage of pixel is calculated to see vertical cross-talk from the first to the last column. The information obtained from this study could be utilized to design the larger area and finer image quality panel.

  • Holographic Data Storage System (HDSS), one of the next generation data storage devices, is a 2-dimensional page oriented memory system using volume hologram. HDSS has many noise sources such as crosstalk, scattering and inter pixel interference, etc. The noise source is changing intensity of the light used for carrying the data signal in HDSS. The inter pixel interference results in decrease of Signal to Noise Ratio and increase of Bit Error Rate. In order to improve these problems, this paper proposes to compensate the inter pixel interference with simple interference mask.

  • Accurate calibration effect for maladjusted stereo cameras with calibrated pixel distance parameter is presented. The camera calibration is a necessary procedure for stereo vision-based depth computation. Intra and extra parameters should be obtain to determine the relation between image and world coordination through experiment. One difficulty is in camera alignment for parallel installation: placing two CCD arrays in a plane. No effective methods for such alignment have been presented before. Some amount of depth error caused from such non-parallel installation of cameras is inevitable. If the pixel distance parameter which is one of intra parameter is calibrated with known points, such error can be compensated in some amount and showed the variable experiments for accurate effects.

  • Data storage related with writing and retrieving requires high storage capacity, fast transfer rate and less access time. Today any data storage system cannot satisfy these conditions, however holographic data storage system can perform faster data transfer rate because it is a page oriented memory system using volume hologram in writing and retrieving data. System can be constructed without mechanical actuating part so fast data transfer rate and high storage capacity about 1Tb/cm3 can be realized. In this research, to correct errors of binary data stored in holographic data storage system, a new method for reduction errors is suggested. First, find cluster centers using subtractive clustering algorithm then reduce intensities of pixels around cluster centers. By using this error reduction method following results are obtained ; the effect of Inter Pixel Interference noise in the holographic data storage system is decreased and the intensity profile of data page becomes uniform therefore the better data storage system can be constructed.
