  • In computational study of the flow in piston engines and the flow through moving valves, the use of moving vertices is essential for modelling flows with moving boundaries. The positions of cell vertices in such cases must be allowed to vary with time. To simulate 3-dimensional port-valve and piston-cylinder of HIMSEN 6H21/32 engine, a commercially available code, STAR-CD, was used. Changes in mesh geometry was specified by PROSTAR commands.(i.e. the Change Grid operation in the EVENTS command module.) Control of the intake flow is expected to play an important role as designers seek to obtain better fuel spray characteristics, fuel mixing and mixture preparation, combustion performance, and emissions reductions to meet national standards. As a result of analysis, velocity fields indicate the presence of a structured flow comprised of one pair of counter-rotating vortices under the intake valve during the early induction process. These flow structures remain visible for most of the intake process. As the piston moves towards BDC, these vortices develops into a larger tumbling motion that dominates the flow structure.

  • Recently, the importance of variable displacement piston pump is increasing in industrial world. Especially, most consumers require various range of pressures and flow rates. Pressure compensator is a system controlling flow rate in piston pump at low cost and, therefore, satisfies the need of consumers. However, the system has serious problems, such as response and leakage. The response and leakage are affected by clearance between actuator piston and cylinder, roughness of surface, and spool overlap. In this paper, these effects are investigated experimentally, and optimal clearance and chamfer is obtained. While diameter of cylinder is fixed and diameter of actuator piston is changed in this experiment, response and leakage are measured. Also parameters such as roughness and processing accuracy are changed for piston of fixed clearance. Experimental setup modelled into several parts of actuator piston, cylinder, spool, and swash plate. Input pressure is changed by function generator and proportional valve. The result of this experiment shows that leakage increases very much in proportion to the increase of clearance, and especially leakage occurs enormously when clearance is more than 0.002. The response is not good because as clearance increases leakage increases and as clearance decreases viscous damping effect increases. Accordingly, it is found out that optimal clearance range exists for tile response, within about 0.0012∼0.0014, at this time. Futhermore, the better roughness and geometrical accuracy of actuator piston are, the smaller are leakage and friction. The paper informs that response and leakage are influenced by and geometrical accuracy of actuator piston, roughness of surface, and the clearance between actuator piston and cylinder, and that optimal design of actuator piston in the pressure compensator is possible.

자동차용(自動車用) 충격흡수기(衝擊吸收器)의 해석(解析) 및 품질향상(品質向上)을 위(爲)한 설계방안(設計方案) (Analysis shockabsorber of automobile and Design Criterion)

  • A study has been made of the damping force phenomena of the shockabsorber for automobile. The main results obtained are as follows; 1) We can neglect friction loss between cylinder and piston, as it is very small compared to other damping force. 2) Damping force due to coil spring and disc valve shows comparatively stable at various piston speed and oil temperature. 3) Theoretical and experimental values are well agreed on relatively low piston speed. 4) Theoretical value on piston speed of 600mm/sec, 900mm/sec at oil temperature $20^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$ and $80^{\circ}C$ is about 82% of experimental value. 5) Theretical value at oil temperature $-20^{\circ}C$, $0^{\circ}C$ is about 67% of experimental value.

  • In case of swash plate type axial piston hydraulic motor, hydrostatic bearing used to achieve the lubrication effect on the mechanical sliding contact areas between the following parirs ; sliooer-pad and swash plate,piston and cylinder bore,valve plate and cylinder block, etc. This study discussed the basic charateristic for the hydrostatic slipper-pad bearings with the capillary or orifice restrictor under static load condition. And, we also development of hydrostatic bearing tester for hydrostatic balancing test of pistion & slipper-pad assembly, and some experimental data on supply pressure step responce are reported.

  • The closed circuit pump is applied to control rotating speed and direction of hydraulic motor in hydrostatic transmission. To development of this pump, first of all the servo control regulator has to be designed. Mechanical-hydraulic type servo control mechanism is excellent to be compared with electronic-hydraulic type servo control valve to reliability and economy. In this paper to development positive and negative variable displacement type servo regulator, the hydro-mechanical servo control mechanism is calculated and designed with force balance of pilot piston and position feedback of servo piston.

사판식 피스톤 펌프 흡입구의 유동 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Flow Characteristics of a Swash-Plate Piston-Pump Inlet)

  • In this study, a cavitation occurrence in a piston-pump inlet was investigated by simulating the pressure distribution, according to the inlet shape of a variable-displacement swash-plate piston pump that supplies high-pressure oil to control the hydraulic system of a marine engine. Two types of pump inlets with different shapes were cast into impression models, and the models were reverse-engineered by 3D scanning. Then, the hydraulic-pressure distribution was analyzed through finite-element analysis. The results of the analysis confirmed that cavitation occurs more easily in the inlet with a steeper slope during pump operation because the inlet pressure on the valve plate is lower than that of the other pump with a gentler inlet slope.

  • Ball poppet valve type high pressure hydrogen injection valve actuated by solenoid has been developed for the feasibility of practical use of hydrogen fueled engine with direct injection and the precise control of fuel injection ratio in hydrogen fueled engine with dual injection. The gas-tightness of ball poppet injection valve is improved by the introduction of ball-shaped valve face, valve end typed spherical pair, and valve stem with rotating blade. Ball poppet valve is mainly closed by differential pressure due to the area difference between valve fillet and pressure piston. So, it can be operated by solenoid actuator with small driving force. From the evaluation of ball poppet injection valve, it was found that the gastightness and controlment of this injection valve are better than those of injection valve had been developed before.

  • Hydrostatic pumps and motors occupy an important position in hydraulic system. There are a lot of researches on characteristics of hydraulic pumps, but not hydraulic motors. So in order to know the characteristics of hydraulic motors we had this research. The purpose of this study is to derive and analyze the theoretical calculation of hydraulic axial piston motor torque and torque ripples. Then, analyzed the differences between torque ripples with dead place and without dead place on the valve plate, and modeling a hydraulic motor with AMESim software. Finally, theoretical calculation of hydraulic motor torque ripples was verified from the viewpoint of simulation.

변위감응형 충격흡수기의 차량 동력학적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Vehicle Dynamic Characteristic of Displacement Sensitive Shock Absorber)

  • The performance of shock absorber is directly related to the car behaviour and performance, both for handling and ride comfort. The displacement sensitive shock absorber has two modes of damping force (i.e. soft and hard) according to the position of piston. In this study, a mathematical nonlinear dynamic model is introduced to predict the performance of displacement sensitive shock absorber. Especially in this paper, the transient zone is considered and the simulation result is well fit with experimental data. And the vehicle dynamic characteristic of displacement sensitive shock absorber is presented using quarter car simulation model. The simulation results of frequency response are compared with passive shock absorber.

피스톤 냉각용 오일제트 비정상 유동 해석 (Unsteady Flow Analysis of Oil Jet for Cooling the Piston)

  • In order to enhance the performance of an automotive engine, many researchers have been carried out. An oil jet cooling a piston is one of important parts for engine performance. Therefore, the efficient cooling system of an oil jet is needed. In this paper, unsteady flow analysis of the oil jet which consists of a check valve and a nozzle has been accomplished. And the reaction between mass flow rate and ball movement was also investigated.
