  • In this paper, we propose a method to design and implement a smart pipeline information management system that can provide visualization information linked to GIS and roadmap based on the construction of precise pipeline buried information. The smart pipeline information management system consists of a positioning device for high-precision pipeline location measurement and surround view image data recording, a database for data storage and management, and a mobile app for remote monitoring and management. It connects surrounding image data and location data with GIS and roadmap. Convenience and accessibility of management can be improved.

  • Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has been applied to the construction industry for improving the efficiency of material and process management. Most RFID-related studies have focused on building or plant construction. The application of RFID has been limited in pipeline construction projects where materials are stored and stacked across a large construction site. This paper investigates practical issues in pipeline construction, improves the read rates of RFID tags, and tests their utility by putting them into practice. This paper demonstrates the benefits that may be expected with the use of improved RFID tags and the development of an automated pipeline construction management system. As a result, pipeline construction management time decreased by 28 hours per month compared to the conventional method. Cost decreased by about 26%.

  • Since the G20 summit in 2011, South Korea who was dependent on foreign energy needs of 97% receives natural gas from Russia from 2015 to 30 years, but South Korea is a situation of scarce experience and skills of pipeline project in permafrost area. In this study, we kept the target for analyzing the data and information flow of the pipeline projects in permafrost area, and the ultimate goal is set to developing the hierarchy structure of design and construction data for an efficient administration of the project. In order to develop that structure, Configuration Management was introduced and through this method, it is expected to be used to build the overall information management system in O&M phase.

  • As issued the development of energy resources, EPC work process through the IT technology is essential for efficient business management, and systematic management of data generated in this process is needed. In domestic, the research related to system development for the collection and management of construction data detected in the field has been done continuously, but pipeline business target the long-distance in extreme cold weather, almost no cases have been studied up to now. Therefore, this research is aimed to derive the data item for efficient management in EPC Stage of pipeline business in extreme cold weather. WBS system of EPC work are classified easily at two levels, data items can be divided based on the type of document. In the future I will be expected to be the foundation of the systematic management of data generated in the EPC step-by-step of pipeline business.

  • Recently, Russia decided to export an annual 7.5 million tons of natural gas to Korea over 30 years from 2015, as also deal with China, planed to build a pipeline connecting Siberia to Shandong Peninsula about 4000km. Risk management is required depending on the project in extreme cold weather, because it is concerned about the behavior of the seasonal changes in soil temperature and the strain of pipe according to the long-distance pipeline construction. The plan of data management shall be prepared in parallel for a sophisticated risk management, because a data is massive scale and it is generated/accumulated in real time. Therefore, this research is aimed to classify a data items in engineering stage of pipeline by previous studies for managing a generated data depending on the detail works in extreme cold weather. We expect to be provided the foundation of an efficient classification system of a generated data from the pipeline project life cycle.

  • The study was aimed to extract the improvement measures for the problem on GIS application GIS for water supply and sewerage pipeline facility management in the Jechon city. For this, it performed of analysis of their working and modeling with other relational contents of the water and sewer facility management. As the results, the implementation of water and sewer facility management system by use of GIS has to applying development through relational analysis not only pipeline facility and leaking water protection, pipeline network analysis but also digital topography, drawing data, water user's information.

  • Recently risk management based on a quantitative assessment is considered to improve the level of safety in Korea. This paper focuses on the procedure of the quantitative risk assessment for natural gas pipelines. For that purpose, the methods to estimate failure frequency based on failure causes from European Gas Pipeline Incident Data Group and BG Transco, to analyze consequence caused by fire, and to calculate individual risk and societal risk have been proposed systematically in this paper. Risk criteria of individual risk and societal risk have been proposed by considering the environment of pipeline route in Korea. The proposed procedure of quantitative risk assessment may be useful for risk management during the planning and building stages of a new pipeline, and modification of buried pipeline.

  • The Underground pipeline facility is a general but most important facility in modern world, but its maintainability has been left behind. An automated and intelligent management technology is needed to prevent the wast of social resource and security. In this paper, we introduce Pipeline Health Monitoring(PHM) with Ubiquitous Sensor Network(USN) for inexpensive structure safety monitoring system, and improve its utility by inventing the advanced impedance converter.

  • Purpose: This paper introduces the technology of prognostics for Industry 4.0 and presents its application procedure for fitness-for-service assessment of natural gas pipelines according to ISO 13374 framework. Methods: Combining data-driven approach with pipe failure models, we present a hybrid scheme for the gas pipeline prognostics. The probability of pipe failure is obtained by using the PCORRC burst pressure model and First Order Second Moment (FOSM) method. A fuzzy inference system is also employed to accommodate uncertainty due to corrosion growth and defect occurrence. Results: With a modified field dataset, the probability of failure on the pipeline is calculated. Then, its residual useful life (RUL) is predicted according to ISO 16708 standard. As a result, the fitness-for-service of the test pipeline is well-confirmed. Conclusion: The framework described in ISO 13374 is applicable to the RUL prediction and the fitness-for-service assessment for gas pipelines. Therefore, the technology of prognostics is helpful for safe and efficient management of gas pipelines in Industry 4.0.
