In this study, the model tests were conducted on the short piles installed in sands under a horizontal pullout load to investigate their behavior characteristics. From the horizontal loading tests where dimensions of the pile diameter and length, and loading point were varied, the horizontal pullout resistance and the rotational and translational movement pattern of the pile were investigated. As a result, the horizontal pullout resistance of the pile embedded in sands was dependent on the pile length, diameter, loading point, etc. The ultimate horizontal pullout load tended to increase as the loading point (h/L) moved to the bottom from the top of the pile, regardless of the ratio between the pile length and diameter (L/D), reached the maximum value at the point of h/L = 0.75, and decreased afterwards. When the horizontal pullout load acted on the upper part above the middle of the pile, the pile rotated clockwise and moved to the pullout direction, and the pivot point of the pile was located at 150-360mm depth below the ground surface. On the other hand, when the horizontal pullout load acted on the lower part of the pile, the pile rotated counterclockwise and travelled horizontally, and the rotational angle was very small.
This paper describes the results of a pile pullout test considering the confine pressure and fines content of the ground. The Pullout tests were conducted under various ground conditions using model piles. The effect of ground confine pressure on the pullout resistance and the pullout resistance parameters of the pile were evaluated based on the experimental results. The results of pullout test showed that the maximum pullout resistance occurred at a pullout displacement of about 7mm to 9mm, regardless of the fines content and the confine pressure of the ground. The maximum pullout resistance of the pile decreased as the fines content of the ground increased, and this trend became clearer as the confine pressure increased. The pullout resistance calculated by theoretical formula was compared with the experimental results in order to ensure the reliability of the pullout test results. The comparative results showed that the experimental and theoretical values showed a tendency to decrease the pullout resistance as the fines content increased, in all confine pressure conditions. The analysis result of the pullout resistance parameters confirmed that the pullout resistance was greatly influenced by the adhesion compared to the interface friction angle, as the fines content of the ground around the pile increased.
Structural experiment result showed that PHC(d=600mm) Pile used as a common compression member could resist 83.6 ~ 91.6 tonf of ultimate tension force, if the adhesion of P.C. bar of PHC pile to the concrete foundation is strengthened. Considering a proper safety factor to ultimate tension strength, PHC pile can substitute the anti-floating anchor, or reduce the number of anchors. For this purpose, pullout resistance behavior of a Bored pile embedded in real ground as well as structural tension strength of PHC pile must be evaluated. This study performed the static pullout tests to evaluate the pullout behavior of bored pile, and compared the test results with design value of side resistance. To evaluate the pullout resistance easily, static pullout test results were compared with dynamic loading test results using PDA. As a result, cement paste of the bored pile was hardened which is after 15 days, LH side resistance design value corresponded well to the Static pullout test results, also to the side resistance evaluated by dynamic loading test.

In this study, three dimensional numerical analyses were carried out to predict axial (pullout and compressive) and lateral behavior of rock-socketed steel pipe pile varying diameter, wall thickness, and length. As a result of the pile pullout analyses, it was confirmed that the pullout displacement was inversely proportional to the pile diameter for given pile length, thickness, pullout load. Load-settlement relationship of the compressive pile analyses revealed that the effect of pile thickness on pile resistance was more significant than that of pile diameter. In addition, laterally loaded pile analyses showed that pile lateral resistance is influenced above all else by pile diameter. This study showed that it is necessary to conduct numerical analyses to identify the effects of pile diameter, wall thickness, and pile length on the steel pipe pile behavior as a preliminary pile design under specified loading conditions.
This paper describes the applicability of FEA(Finite Element Analysis) to the simulation of pile pullout behavior under various soil conditions (relative density and fines content), in order to evaluate reasonably the pullout resistance of pile. That is, the results of previous research (You et al., 2018) were analyzed by FEA under the same conditions. The FEA results showed that axisymmetric analysis using virtual ground was able to evaluate the skin friction of the pile. Also, axisymmetric analysis, which can apply the shear resistance characteristics of the pile-soil interface in various soil conditions, could be used as an analytical method that can simulate a reasonable pile pullout behavior. Therefore, the analytical model proposed in this study was able to simulate appropriately the pullout behavior based on the stress-strain relationship of the pile-soil interface.
This paper describes the results of finite element analysis (FEA), in order to investigate a characteristics of pile pullout behavior according to the conditions of the relative density and fines content in original ground. In the FEA, a boundary elements and strength reduction factors ($R_{inter}$) on pile-soil interface were applied to simulate appropriately the shear behavior at the pile-soil interface, and then the reliability of numerical analysis method was verified by comparison of FEA results and previous experimental research(You et al., 2018). In addition, a the deformation characteristics at the pile-soil interface and determination method of $R_{inter}$ value was laid out. The results showed that the FEA, based on the analytical model applied in this study simulates appropriately the characteristics of the pile-soil interface by pullout model test of pile. In order to apply the suggested $R_{inter}$ value, it is necessary to consider the condition of the relative density and the fines content in ground.
Shear Connector should be used to fix the PHC pile with extension wall in order to utilize PHC-W retaining wall as permanent wall. The pullout behaviours on shear connectors anchored into PHC-W pile were observed as two modes. The first type behaviour showed that after reaching the maximum pullout resistance, the anchorage was broken and shear connector was pulled out abruptly. The second type behaviour showed that even after arriving the maximum pullout resistance, the anchorage was not destroyed and there was a progressive increase in pullout displacement. The maximum pullout resistance of the steel anchor shear connector is larger than that of deformed bar shear connector. The larger the diameter and the longer the embedment length of shear connector, the higher the maximum pullout resistance would be. The pullout displacements corresponding to the maximum pullout resistance of the shear connector showed various ranges regardless of the materials, the diameters and the anchoring lengths. A-D20 shear connectors showed a pull-out displacement of about 8~10 mm. A-D16, D-D19 and D-D16 shear connectors exhibited a pulling displacement of about 14~20 mm, but a pulling displacement of about 6~10 mm when the anchoring lengths were 50 and 80 mm.
In this study, a large-scale direct shear test was performed to evaluate the shear characteristics of the pile-soil interface according to the fines content and confining pressure conditions as a reasonable evaluation method of the pullout resistance performance of pile considering the soil conditions. It was found that the shear stress was greatly generated under the conditions of high normal stress and low fines content. In addition, the maximum shear stress was found to be rather large under the conditions of the same normal stress and fines content, when pile surface had high roughness. The internal friction angle decreased at the pile-soil interface, when the fines content in the ground increased. On the other hand, the cohesion decreased under the condition of high fines content. And the internal friction angle and cohesion were large regardless of the fines content in the model ground, when the roughness of the pile surface was high.

Recently, the construction of coastal structures and high-rise structures against the horizontal and uplift forces increases with the developing the coastal developments. Especially the application of belled tension pile as foundation type to effectively resist uplift force is increasing in coastal structures. However, research on pullout resistance of belled tension pile has been limited and not yet been fully performed. Therefore, the pullout load tests of belled tension piles in four overseas sites were performed, then the bearing capacity, characteristics on load-displacement of piles and load distribution considering skin friction were investigated in this paper. In addition, the limit pullout bearing capacity calculated by the three-dimensional finite element analysis and theoretical methods were compared with values of in-situ test.

Many recent attempts have sought accurate prediction of pile pullout resistance (Pul) using classical machine learning models. This study offers an improved methodology for this objective. Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), as a popular predictor, is trained by a capable metaheuristic strategy, namely equilibrium optimizer (EO) to predict the Pul. The used data is collected from laboratory investigations in previous literature. First, two optimal configurations of EO-ANFIS are selected after sensitivity analysis. They are next evaluated and compared with classical ANFIS and two neural-based models using well-accepted accuracy indicators. The results of all five models were in good agreement with laboratory Puls (all correlations > 0.99). However, it was shown that both EO-ANFISs not only outperform neural benchmarks but also enjoy a higher accuracy compared to the classical version. Therefore, utilizing the EO is recommended for optimizing this predictive tool. Furthermore, a comparison between the selected EO-ANFISs, where one employs a larger population, revealed that the model with the population size of 75 is more efficient than 300. In this relation, root mean square error and the optimization time for the EO-ANFIS (75) were 19.6272 and 1715.8 seconds, respectively, while these values were 23.4038 and 9298.7 seconds for EO-ANFIS (300).
