The purpose of this study is to estimate a landslide using the SLOPILE program from the slope reinforced by slope stability systems such as soil nailing and pile. To do this, cutting slope located at Donghae-Highway in Kwangwon-Do was considered. The behavior of slope was monitored for a long term by using instrumentation according to the reinforcement stages. The sequence of reinforcement stages was followed as pile installation, boring, soil nailing installation, anchoring and embankment. The result from this case study shows that the safety factor of slope depends on the reinforcement stage more or less.
Open-ended pipe piles are often used for the foundations of both land and offshore structures because of their relatively low driving resistance. In this study, load tests were performed on model pipe piles installed in calibration chamber samples in order to investigate the effects of pile installation method on soil plugging and bearing capacity. Results of the test program showed that the incremental filling ratio (IFR), which is used to indicate the degree of soil plugging in open-ended piles, decreased (i) with increasing hammer weight for the same driving energy and (ii) with increasing hammer weight at the same fall height. The base and shaft resistance of the piles were observed to increase (i) with increasing hammer weight for the same driving energy and (ii) with increasing hammer weight at the given same fa11 height. The jacked pile was found to be have higher bearing capacity than an identical driven pile under similar conditions, mostly due to the more effective development of a soil plug in jacking than in driving.
This paper performs a study on the influences of shape and installation method on the ultimate uplift capacity of model piles in sand. Several model piles of different shape, such as straight sided, single-underreamed, multi-underreamed and anchor plate are used. The effects of installation method are studied with buried, driven and vibrotriven piles. Based on model test results, it has been found that when the foundation is subjected to atrial up- lift and compressive load as well, a single-underreamed pile is most effective. When the loading is axial uplipt only, it is likely that anchor plate would be most efficient. Installation method and tip configuration of pile have significant influnce on uplift resistance.
Micro-piles have been used to increase the bearing capacity or to restrain settlement of existing shallow foundation. Recently, micro-piles are used to support the shallow foundation, to stabilize the slope and to resist the sliding of retaining wall. Using the micro-piles in geotechnical engineering, some investigators have studied the effective installing method by model test or field test. But most of previous studies are chiefly focused on the micro-piles in sand or clay layer. If a rock layer exists in soil, the installing length of micro-piles may be determined by the depth of rock layer. In this case, the stiffness of pile may be changed by the installing length of pile, and so the installing method has to be altered by the changed stiffness of pile. Model tests have been conducted to study the installation method of micro-pile in soil with rock layer. As a result, when the ratio of length of pile is below 50 ($L/d{\leq}50$), installing of micro-piles in vertical position is effective regardless of the depth of rock layer. If the depth of rock layer is deeper than soil failure zone and the ratio of the length of pile exceeds 50 (L/d>50), installing of the micro-piles in sloped position is effective.
Although a number of static pile load tests have been performed in this country, re-consideration on the interpretation and loading method is needed, because of their less usefulness in practice. For this study, a static loading testing was performed for a long instrumented PHC pile, which was installed in sand layer overlying thick soft clay. The shaft resistance of the pile had been monitored for a long time after installation, and then the static load testing was performed by the quick load test, unlike the recent Korean practice. Using the measured data, the elastic modulus of pile, residual stress and true resistance on the pile were determined. In the event, it was found that the residual stress on the pile, which remained prior to the static loading, significantly affects the shaft and toe resistances. Also, it was realized that the setup effect for the long pile is significant.

The embedded suction anchor(ESA) is and anchor that is driven by a suction pile. The cross-sectional shape of the ESA anchor is circle. Its diameter is the same as that of the suction pile that is used to drive it into the seafloor. For the installation, the anchor is attached to the tip of the suction pile and then driven as a unit with the pile by and applied suction pressure. Once the ESA anchor reaches the desired depth, the pile is retrieved by applying a positive pressure. Finally, only the ESA anchor remains in the soil layer. This paper presents the results of centrifuge model tests to investigate ESA pullout capacity. The main parameters that have effects on the pullout capacity of ESA may include g-level, embedded depth, direction of loading, and loading point. The results of tests show that the pullout loading capacities increase as the loading point shift toward the tip of the anchors for a given loading direction. They also indicate that the loading point associated with the maximum pullout loading capacity is located at approximately 67 percent of the anchor length from the top for the horizontal load.

Ocean monitoring facilities are divided into two types, fixed type and floating type. This paper deals with wane load calculation and mooring system for a floating monitoring facility. Wave load and drift forces are calculated for an example case of floating monitoring buoy To enlarge holding power of anchor, circular pile model test was performed. A program for horizontal force of circular pile in sand was made and the calculated result showed fairy good agreement with the result of model test. It is expected that this method will provide good estimation for the holding power of the prototype of circular pile anchor which is relied upon SCUBA activity for installation.
With an increasing demand of a renewable energy, new offshore wind turbine farms are being planned in some parts of the world. Foundation installation asks a significant cost of the total budget of offshore wind turbine (OWT) projects. Hence, a cost reduction from foundation parts is a key element when a cost-efficient designing of OWT budget. Mono-piles have been largely used, accounting about 78% of existing OWT foundations, because they are considered as a most economical alternative with a relatively shallow-water, less than 30 m of seawater depth. OWT design standards such as IEC, GL, DNV, API, and Eurocode are being developed in a form of reliability based limit state design method. In this paper, reliability analysis using the response surface method (RSM) and numerical simulation technique for an OWT mono-pile foundation were performed to investigate the sensitivities of mono-pile design parameters, and to find practical implications of RSM reliability analysis.

The suction method is the substructure installation using the water pressure difference generated by discharging water inside the pile by the pumping operation, after the intrusion by the self-weights of a large hollow steel pipe or a concrete structure. It is known as the low-noise and low-vibration method against the general pile driven method and eco-friendly, also. Most current design and safety assessment of the support structure and considering only the static load, however, the importance of dynamic behavior becomes magnified as the size of wind power generator increases. This study measures the natural frequency of the suction pile prototype about the penetration depth as a part of basic research and analyzed the interaction between the soil and the structure.
The results obtained by elasto-plastic analysis method about the displacement, deformation and stability on the soft ground excavation using sheet pile were summarized as follows ; 1. In the case of strut 1 step, the maximum wall displacement value in the first and the second excavation was small, but it increase remarkably after the third excavation and when the excavation depth was 8m, the point of maximum wall displacement was shown 0.75H~0.8H. 2. The value of safety factor(Fs) was increased with increasing of the penetration depth of sheet pile, cohesion and internal friction angle of ground. Safety factor was mostly effected by penetration depth of sheet pile and more effected by cohesion than internal friction angle of ground. 3. Since the deformation of sheet pile of this ground from the results of analysis and measurement increased remarkabaly after 6m excavation depth, it was desirable that the point of strut installation was GL-6m. 4. Safe excavation depth on ground by analysis considered penetration depth, cohesion and internal friction was shown at the table 3.
