일체형 인치웜 방식 액추에이터의 설계 및 특성 (Design and Characteristics of a Monolithic Inchworm Type Actuator (MITA))

  • New inchworm type piezoelectric actuator design, which can reduce the number of the piezoelectric body for manufacturing inchworm type actuator, is suggested in this work. Inchworm type actuator consists of three or more piezoelectric bodies, on the other hand the new-designed inchworm type actuator has only one piezoelectric body. The one piezoelectric body that size is $2\;{\times}\;2\;{\times}\;4\;[mm^2]$ (DWL) has 2 clamping part and 1 extending part. The size of the new-designed actuator with one piezoelectric body is $5\;{\times}\;6\;{\times}\;9\;[mm^2]$ (DWL). The new-designed inchworm type actuator performed the operation at a cycle (6 steps) of $0.3{\mu}m$ per $33.3{\mu}s$ and a generated force of 0.6N.

  • In this paper, vibration suppression of a CD-ROM main base with piezoelectric shunt circuit is studied. Admittance is introduced to predict the performance of piezoelectric shunt damping. Numerical admittance obtained by commercial finite element code, ANSYS, correlates well with experimentally measured one. Multi-mode piezoelectric shunt damping is realized based on the target mode and frequencies obtained by the admittance analysis. Experimental results prove that admittance of the piezoelectric structure is capable of predicting the performance of piezoelectric shunt damping and the vibration of the main base with the piezoelectric patches is reduced effectively.

  • In the 4th industrial age, electronic devices are becoming smaller and lighter with a low power consumption to overcome spatial limitation. The piezoelectric energy harvesters can convert mechanical kinetic energy into electric energy; thus, enabling the operation of small electronic devices. Recently, various piezoelectric harvesters have been reported and the electric output from these harvesters could be anticipated by theoretical analysis methods. For example, COMSOL Multiphysics software provides a theoretical simulation of piezoelectric effect with a combination of mechanical and electrical phenomena in the piezoelectric materials. This article introduces a brief modeling of piezoelectric harvester to investigate mechanical stress and electrical output of harvesting devices by the COMSOL Multiphysics software.

  • This paper presents a theoretical approach to describe the vibration characteristics of a piezoelectric shell transducer. Governing equations for the motion of the piezoelectric shell are classified and simplified according to the boundary conditions. Applied mechanical and electrical boundary conditions have yielded each characteristic equation for circumferential, longitudinal, and radial motions of the piezoelectric shell transducer. Theoretical calculations of the resonance frequencies have been compared with the results obtained by the experiment and have shown a good agreement.

  • The supersonic flutter suppression of a cantilevered plate wing is studied with the finite element method and the quasi-steady aerodynamic theory. We suppress wing flutter by using piezoelectric materials and electric devices. Two approaches to flutter suppression using piezoelectric materials are presented; an energy-recycling semi-active approach and a negative capacitance approach. To assess their flutter suppression performances, we simulate flutter dynamics of the plate wing to which piezoelectric patches are attached. The critical dynamic pressure drastically increases with our flutter control using a negative capacitor.

  • In this paper, the ultra precision positioning system for piezoelectric actuator using hysteresis compensation has been developed. Piezoelectric actuators exhibit limited accuracy in tracking control due to their hysteresis nonlinearity. The main purpose of the proposed controller is to compensate the hysteresis nonlinearity of the piezoelectric actuator. The controller is composed of a PD, hysteresis compensation and neural network part in parallel manner, at first, the excellent tracking performance of the neural network controller was verified by experiments and was compared with the classical PD controller.

  • In this paper, the influence of circular void on a crack in piezoelectric materials under mechanical and electric loads is investigated by using finite element method code, ANSYS. Both ceramics and piezoelectric materials are compared with stress intensity factor and crack extension force at crack tip on arbitrary located circular void under Mode I loads. It was found that piezoelectric materials's crack extension force is larger than ceramics.

  • Dielectric breakdown in piezoelectric ceramics is analyzed by using the three dimensional J integral. The J integral is shown to be a path-independent surface integral for a conductive tubular channel in a piezoelectric material. J integrals are also numerically calculated for conductive defects and tubular channels in piezoelectric ceramics through finite element analysis.

  • In this research, modeling and analysis of an ultrasonic transducer composed of single crystal piezoelectric material(PMN-28PT) are conducted with FEM in reference with that composed of piezoelectric ceramic(PZT-4). Acoustic performances of the ultrasonic transducer are compared with magnitude, phase of impedance and trasmitting voltage response according to the type of piezoelectric materials.

  • A method to derive the constitutive relations of a piezoelectric bender actuator is developed here. The constitutive relations are derived from the geometry, material properties of the actuator. The very complicated constitutive relations can be easily calculated by use of symbolic function in Mathematica. The developed program can calculate the constitutive relations for the unimorph bender made by attaching a short piezoelectric beam on a longer metal beam. The program can also calculate the constitutive relations of a piezoelectric bender with spring at its end.
