  • Muscle tone is the force with which a muscle resists being lengthened. Muscle tone is often tested clinically by passively extending and flexing a relaxed patient's limbs and feeling the resistance offered by the muscle. Both nonneural and neural mechanism contribute to muscle tone. Muscle tone is the mechanisms that contribute to the generation of tone in individual muscles when a person is in a relaxed state. This background level of activity changes in a certain antigravity posture muscle when we stand upright, thus counteracting the force of gravity. This increased level of activity in antigravity muscles is known as postural tone. The evidence from experiments showing that lesions of the dorsal(sensory) roots of the spinal cord reduced muscle(postural) tone is influenced by inputs from the somatosensory system. Patients with neurological damage have several state of muscle(postural) tone, which display from flaccidity to rigidity. This review article deal with muscle tone and somatosensory system acting on this. The understanding about this contribute to a better therapeutic approach for the rehabilitation of patients to have an abnormal muscle(postural) tone due to neurological damage.

  • This study was carried out to determine the mechanical and physical properties of particle boards glued with condensed tannin (Wattle Tannin) powder that was single-molecule phenolic compounds like powdered phenolic resin. Our findings are; 1) It is necessary to spray water on the chip surfaces for effective application of powdered -form tannin resin. It shows that the best and optimum mat moisture increase is 14% of water spray on the surface of chips for developing PB properties. 2) In general, for both liquid and powdered tannin adhesives, their physical and mechanical properties has been proportional to the increase of resin level. But, the most efficient addition ratio is 16% of resin on dry basis. Specially, it is found that the resin level influences on the amount of free formaldehyde emission. The higher the resin level is, the lower the emission is. These phenomena seem to result from the increase of hexamine or formaline in the adhesives used as a hardener, that reduce the free-formaldehyde amount by reaction of tannin of poly-molecule and water. 3) The optimum condition for manufacturing PBs is the condition of hexamine of 5% and formaline of 6% in mechanical and physical properties. Hexamine is superior to formaline in mechanical and physical properties along with the control of the free formaldehyde emission amount. The result of NaOH's addition is insignificant in all experiments of both mechanical and physical properties.

  • Recently, interest in and use of drones is increasing. In this study, to provide accurate wind prediction at ultra low altitudes of 150 meters or below, the sensitivity of the physical process parameterization and initial conditions was assessed to select the optimal physical process and initial conditions. For this purpose, GFS and LDAPS data were used as initial and boundary conditions, and 7 experiments were constructed using a combination of PBL schemes such as YSU, RUC, ACM2, and LSM such as Noah, RUC, and Pleim. The experiment conducted for 1 month in April 2018. As a result, the RUC-YSU physical process combination using the GFS initial data showed the best performance. This study is meaningful in establishing an optimal modeling method for ultra low altitude wind prediction through experiments using different initial conditions and combination of physical processes.

  • These experiments were designed to use typical makers from behaviors and molecular basis in addicted animals of morphine and cocaine. Morphine has been widely abused with a high physical dependence liability. Morphine withdrawal activates the intracellular cAMP signaling pathway and further leads to changes in the expression of the cAMP response element binding protein (CREB), which may be important to the development and expression of morphine dependence. From these experiments, repeated morphine (10 mg/kg, twice per day for 7 days) developed physical dependence. Withdrawal signs were precipitated by naloxone and also increased the expression of the CREB. In addition, repeated exposure of cocaine (15 mg/kg) to mice develops locomotor sensitization and produced lasting behavioral sensitivity. Cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript peptide (CART) peptide was up-regulated by repeated administration of cocaine in the striatum. Therefore, repeated morphine induced the development of physical dependence and increased pCREB. In addition, repeated cocaine induced locomotor sensitization and over-expressed CART peptide. In conclusion, the development of physical dependence and pCREB for morphine, and locomotor sensitization and CART peptide over-expression for cocaine would be useful markers to predict the abuse potential of opioid analgesics and pychostimulant drugs in animals, respectively.

  • The intent of this study is to propose a method for appraisal of the indoor thermal environment of apartment housing by measuring physical factors and residents' response to questionnaire survey. The experiments were performed on eight houses each in summer (August 18 through 31,1995) and winer (february 16 through 20,1996). It included measurements of indoor air temperature, globe temperature, relative humidity, and CO2 concentration. The questionnaire surveys were performed each in summer (July 16 through 20, 1996) and winer (February 13 through 16, 1996). And 248 cases in summer and 297 cases in winter were used in analysis. These questionnaire surveys asked residents' response about thermal sensation, humidity sensation, sense of air freshness regarding the indoor thermal environment. data acquired through the experiments and questionnaire surveys were then transferred to scales that allowed relative comparison, and measured to an appraisal standard chart. Appraisal tools included appraisal charts and radar charts. Indoor thermal environment was judged to be positive according to experiments, but residents appraised the thermal environment to be average. This difference between the two can be found in the strict standards by which residents judge the thermal environment of their apartments.

  • Laboratory settling experiments (column, recirculating flume) were conducted for further understanding of the physical processes of cohesive sediment transport. \In still water experiments, the growth rate of flocculation is dependent upon the initial suspended concentration. Consequently, the settling velocity increases with concentration of flees. In flocculation settling regime, the exponent n in the settling velocity, $w_s=kC^n$, for Nakdong estuary mud was obtained empirically. The exponents were found to be 1.33, and 1.06 for the initial suspended concentrations of 1 g/i and 3 g/t, respectively. In flowing water, experiments for the median settling velocity with Nakdong mud in a recirculating flume were conducted. Settling velocity was found to depend much more strongly on the current velocity than initial concentrations. The temporal variation of suspended concentration increases as current velocity decreases.

  • Many papers have studied computer simulations of elastic bodies undergoing large deflections and large deformations. But there have not been many attempts to check the validity of the numerical formulations because the simulation results could not be matched without correct input data such as material properties and damping effects. In this paper, these values are obtained from real experiment with a high-speed camera and a data acquisition system. The simulation results with the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) are compared with the results of real experiments. Two examples, a thin cantilever beam and a thin plate, are studied to verify whether the simulation results are well matched to experimental results.
