The study was carried out to develop nursery soil for rice seedling of phyllite. First of all, physico-chemical properties of used phyllite in the study through the analysis for agricultural utilization evaluation are as following. Bulk density(BD) of phyllite was $1.31g/cm^3$ each other and porosity had 65% of entire pore size. Also, the water holding capacity(WHC) was 43% at 1/3bar pressure, which phyllite has high WHC. According to, the results the experiments for nursery soil were conducted by mixing the materials such as phyllite, zeolite and hill soil. The mixing ratios were 30, 50, and 70% for zeolite and hill soil into phyllite. These mixed materials were packed in a box by adding 0, 1 and 2g of N-fertilizer. At seedling test, there were increases in the growth of shoot and root of rice for phyllite to zeolite and phyllite to hill soil, respectively. On the other hand, the length of leaf increased with increasing application rate of phyllite, while length and a number of root increased with increasing application rate of hill soil. The growth in the plots of phyllite to zeolite and phyllite to hill soil was better than in control plot. Finally, phyllite plot had efficient results when it compared with others and the study used with phyllite will have to more research and effort for agricultural useful material.

The study was executed to evaluate the agricultural utilization of phyllite as composting bulking agent in pig manure. The effects of the composted pig manure were verified by adopting the mixture of 10% phyllite and 20% saw dust(PSPC 10) and 20% phyllite and 10% saw dust(PSPC 20). The pig manure mixed with 30% saw dust was used as a control(PSC). However C/N ratio was very decreased because humus was rapidly progressed at PSPC 20 plot during the composting. Also, $NH_4{^+}-N$, $NO_3{^-}-N$, pH and EC were quickly changed from after one week and CEC was the highest as $92cmol_c/kg$. And Total-N was hardly changed during the composting but total carbon was rapidly declined as processing compost. Therefore, the phyllite has positively showed comparing with others in the street as compost bulking agent and go ahead, it is concerned that this material should have to research and investigating, constantly.

BACKGROUND: Clay mineral is well known to improve physico-chemical of soil. The objective of this study was to investigate the growth characteristics and inorganic nutrient contents of crops with application levels of phyllite.METHODS AND RESULTS: Both young radish and lettuce were selected as target crops for this study. The experiment was conducted in a wagner pot(1/5000a) in glass house at Sunchon National University. Treatment conditions were divided P0NPK(No phyllite + NPK), P5NPK(phyllite 5 Mg/ha + NPK), P10NPK(phyllite 10 Mg/ha + NPK) and P15NPK(phyllite 15 Mg/ha + NPK) by crops, respectively. Bulk density and porosity of soil in control without treatment conditions were ranged from 1.02 ∼1.04 g/cm3 and 56.5∼57.0%, respectively, and those for treatments with phyllite were in the ranged from 0.94∼1.00 g/cm3 and 58.4∼63.5%, respectively. Dry weights of young radish and lettuce were higher in P15NPK treatment than those in other treatments. The amounts of T-N, T-P and K uptake in young radish with phyllite application treatments were increased 36∼115, 18∼67 and 20∼76% than without phyllite application treatment, respectively. In lettuce treatments, amounts of T-N, T-P and K uptake were intended to all tested treatments similar with result of young radish treatment.CONCLUSION: Therefore, these results confirm that phyllite application to the soil improves physico-chemical of soil in addition to improving growth of young radish and lettuce.

The study was conducted to investigate the changes of soil properties and evaluation of plant utilization according to the application of compost used with phyllite. At this experiment, the plant cultivation test(lettuce and radish plant) was carried out to know about physico-chemical properties of compost, humus degradarion and stabilization degree, and some effects among rhe treatments were best at 20Mg/ha in PSPC 10(Phyllite, Saw dust, Pig manure Compost) plots and ar 10Mg/ha in PSPC 20 treatments, respectively. The EC value was high in the compost. Therefore the EC was appeared more than 2ds/m at the applied 40Mg/ha with compost. And in case of lettuce, Avail.-$P_2O_5$ and EC were more increased than in the radish plots, highly. In contrast, in case of radish, Toral-N, Total-C, and EC contents were decreased after plant cultivation. That is, it could know that radish was fond of absorprion of nitrogen. Also, BD values of soil physical properties were decreased according to increasing of phyllite addition ratio, however water holding capacity(WHC) was increased. The plant test had not been darnaged through the application of compost used with phyllite in soil and there had not been worse on changing of soil physico-chemical properties. Consequently, phyllite composts have been thought on agricultural utilized possibility.
Flame retardant synergism of phyllite was studied in ABS resins containing brominated flame retardant(tetrabromobisphenol A(TBBA) or brominated epoxy oligomer(BEO)) and antimony trioxide($Sb_2O_3)$. Talc was used for the comparison purpose. ABS compounds were manufactured by a twin-screw co-rotating extruder and subsequently injection molded into several specimen for mechanical and thermal properties. Flame retardancy of ABS compounds measured by UL 94 vertical test with 1.6 mm thick bar specimen was enhanced by the replacement of antimony trioxide into phyllite or talc in the range of 12.5%(0.5 wt%) to 37.5%(1.5 wt%). Phyllite showed better synergistic effect comparing with talc especially for BEO. Only phyllite enhanced the flowability of ABS compounds. Notched Izod impact strength decreased with the proportion of phyllite or talc content. Phyllite could replace the antimony trioxide up to the content of 25%(1 wt%) to give better flame retardancy and flowability without darkening problem.

This study is for know chemistry of the representative soils from Keumsan, its relationships with dissolved compositions, and its absorption relationships within the flora. It has been done for two comparisons: 1) phyllite, shale and granite(PSG), and 2) granite and coal bearing shale(GC). Among the soil leachate of the PSG, cations are mainly low in the phyllite area while anions are mainly low in the granite area. In the soil compositions, Ca and Mg of the beans are high and Na is high in the granite area while Ca and Na of the perilla are high in the granite area and Mg is high in the phyllite area. In th both species, Na for the granite area and Mg for the phyllite area are high while Ca for the shale area is low. Among the flora, shale area shows low Ca and Mg contents while granite area shows slightly high Na contents, regardless the species. Compared with beans, perilla is low in the Mg and high in the Na contents. These relationships show that the contents of the soil leachate do not reflect absorption within the flora. Among the soil leachate of the GC, shale area is high in the most of the elements. Especially, SO$_4$ is over 15 times high In the phyllite area. In the soil, granite area shows high Ca, Na and low Mg contents. In the flora, the Miscanthus sinensis shows high Ca and Mg contents in the granite area while the Artemisia vulgaris shows high Ca, Ca and Mg contents in the shale area. These relationships for contents of the flora and soil leachate suggest that the flora has a different absorption according different species.
This study is for geochemical relationships between ginsengs and soils from three representative soil types from Keumsan, shale, phyllite and granite areas. For this study, ginsengs (2, 3 and 4 years), with the soils and their host rock, are collected and are analysed for the transitional elements. In the weathered soils, the shale area is high in the most of elements, but low in the granite area. High correlation relationships are shown in the shale area. In the field soils, the shale area is mainly high, but low in the granite area. Comparing with ages, most of elements are high in the 2 year soils, but low in the 4 year soils. Regardless of the localities, positive and negative correlations are dominant in the shale area. In the host rocks, high element contents are shown in the phyllite and shale areas. Positive and negative correlations are found in the shale and phyllite areas for large numbers of the element pairs. In the ginsengs, differences of the element contents with ages are not clear, but show high element contents in the 2 year ginsengs of the shale and phyllite areas, and low contents in the 4 year ginsengs of the granite area. Positive correlations are shown in the Cu-Zn pair in the shale and phyllite areas, and Co-Cu pair in the granite area. In the relative ratios(weathered soil/field soil), most of elements from the shale area are high, above I, suggesting high element contents in the weathered soils of the shale area relative to the granite and phyllite areas. In the relative ratios(weathered soil/host rock), most of elements are above 1, suggesting the high element contents in the weathered soils relative to the host rocks. Relative ratios (soil/ginseng) of the element contents are several to ten times. Regardless of the areas, big differences of the relative ratios are found in the Co and small differences are in the Cu and Zn, which suggest that differences between soils and ginsengs are big in the Co contents and small in the Cu and Zn contents. Regardless of the ages, differences among relative ratios are small in granite area relative to the shale area, which suggest more similar contents between ginsengs and soils in the granite areas.

The research was conducted to determine a seed germination and seedling establishment of rice plant under seed coating materials such as iron, silicate, and phyllite and under covered with silicate and iron coated & silicate covered in the puddled wet hill seeding and wet line seeding methods. The seedling establishment was high in silicate and untreated control of 100%>phyllite coating of 91.5%>silicate coating of 88%>iron coating and silicate covered of 86%>silicate covered of 75.5% in the puddled wet hill seeding method, respectively. At 35days after treatment there was high in seedling height at silicate covered of 23.8cm>control of 23.6cm>silicate coating of 21.4cm>phyllite coating of 20.2cm>iron coating and silicate covered of 16.8cm>iron coating of 15.4cm. In puddle wet line seeding method rice seedling establishment was high at control and silicate covered of 100%>iron coating and silicate covered by 97.5%>phyllite coating by 94.8%>iron coating by 86%. Seedling height was high in silicate covered of 22.1cm>control of 21.2cm>silicate coating of 20.0cm>phyllite coating of 19.0cm>iron coating of 17.7cm>iron coating and silicate covered of 17.0cm, respectively.
Different ages of the ginsengs were collected from the three soil areas, such as granite, phyllite and shale of Keumsan, with their field soils. Of the soils, phyllite and shale areas are high in the Ni, Cr, Co, Sc, V, As, Cu and Zn contents while the granite areas are low in the W, Pb, Th, U, Sn and Be contents. In the correlation coefficient of the soils, positive and negative relationships of the elements are mainly high in the shale and low in the granite area. Comparing between 2- and 3- year ginsengs, 2-year ginsengs are mainly high in most elements, especially for the granite and phyllite areas. In the regional comparisons among the same ages, the granite areas are mainly low and high in the shale area for the most of the elements. Comparisons among the parts of ginsengs suggest high contents in the most of the elements at the upper parts. In the comparisons between the top soils and ginseng compositions, top soils are mainly high and show similar increase/decrease trends between them. Following the transitional element contents, the granite area is best for the ginseng cultivation while , among the three areas, the shale area is worst.
