Structural and Optical Properties of Yellow-Emitting CaGd2ZrSc(AlO4)3:Ce3+ Phosphor for Solid-State Lighting

  • Single-phase yellow phosphor, $CaGd_{2-x}ZrSc(AlO_4)_3:xCe^{3+}$ ($CGZSA:Ce^{3+}$), possessing cubic symmetry with varied $Ce^{3+}$ concentrations, was synthesized using the solid-state reaction method. The samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), excitation spectra, emission spectra, thermal quenching, and decay curves. The cubic phase of $CGZSA:Ce^{3+}$ phosphor was confirmed via XRD analysis. The photoluminescence spectra of $CGZSA:Ce^{3+}$ phosphor demonstrated that the phosphor could be excited at the wavelength of 440 nm; a broad yellow emission band was centered at 541 nm. These results indicate that the phosphors are adequately excited by blue light and have the potential to function as yellow-emitting phosphors for applications in white light-emitting diodes.

Branched DNA-based Synthesis of Fluorescent Silver Nanocluster

  • While single strand DNAs have been widely used for the scaffold of brightly fluorescent silver nanoclusters (Ag NCs), double strand DNAs have not been as successful. Herein, we report a novel synthetic approach for bright Ag NCs using branched double strand DNAs as the scaffolds for synthesis. X-shaped DNA (X-DNA) and Y-shaped DNA (Y-DNA) effectively stabilized Ag NCs, and both X-DNA and Y-DNA resulted in brightly fluorescent Ag NCs. The concentration and molar ratio of silver and DNA were found important for the fluorescence efficiency. The brightest Ag NC with the photoluminescence quantum efficiency of 19.8% was obtained for the reaction condition of 10 ${\mu}M$ X-DNA, 70 ${\mu}M$ silver, and the reaction time of 48 h. The fluorescence lifetime was about 2 ns for the Ag NCs and was also slightly dependent on the synthetic condition. Addition of Cu ions at the Ag NC preparations resulted in the quenching of Ag NC fluorescence, which was different to the brightening cases of single strand DNA stabilized Ag NCs.

A Carbazole-Attached NO2S2-Macrocycle Exhibiting Hg2+ and Cu2+ Selectivity

  • A synthesis and cation-induced fluorescent behavior of the carbazole-attached $NO_2S_2$-macrocycle (L) is described and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray analysis. The photoluminescence spectrum of L in 80% $CH_3CN/CH_2Cl_2$ displays a peak maximum at 431 nm (blue emission). In the metal-induced fluorometric experiment, L showed a drastic chelation-enhanced fluorescence quenching (CHEQ) effect only with $Hg^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$. In ESI-mass study, a 1:1 stoichiometry for complexation of L with $Hg^{2+}$ was confirmed, suggesting the unique sensing behavior of the proposed ligand L due to the selective complexation affinity for $Hg^{2+}$. The observed results indicate that L is a promising turn-off type fluoroionophore for $Hg^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ detections. Additionally, the $Ag^+$ complex of the precursor macrocycle was prepared and its solid structure was crystallographically characterized.

  • Organometal halide perovskite materials have attracted much attention in the photovoltaic and light emitting devices due to the compositional flexibility with AMX3 formula (A is an organic amine cation; M is a metal ion; X is a halogen atom). The addition of homovalent or heterovalent metal cations to the bulk organohalide perovskites has been performed to modify their energy band structure and the relevant optoelectronic properties by ligand-assisted ball milling. Here, we report CH3NH3Pb1-xMxBr3 nanocrystals substituted by metallic cations (M is Sn2+, In3+, Bi3+; x = 0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2). Photoluminescence and quantum yield was significantly reduced with increasing metallic cations content. These quenching effect could be resulted from the metal cations that behave as a non-radiative recombination center.

  • We have synthesized $Eu^{3+}$-doped $YVO_4$ phosphors by using a hydrothermal method and investigated their luminescent properties. Aqueous solutions of $Y_2O_3,\;V_2O_5,\;Eu_2O_3$, and nitric acid with various pH values were used as the precursors. The crystallinity, surface condition, and emission characteristics were examined using XRD, FT-IR, and photo-excited spectrometer. $Eu^{3+}$ incorporation followed by the efficient red emission strongly depends on the acidity of solution media. The emission intensity becomes stronger as the pH values increase to 7 and then gradually decreases. This phenomenon might be related to the hydroxyl quenching effect, which is induced by surface bound OH-groups.

$PbWO_{4}:Nb$ 단결정의 성장과 그 광학적 특성 (The $PbWO_{4}:Nb$ single crystal growth and its optical properties)

  • Ir 도가니에서 PbO와 $WO_{3}$를 50 %~50 % 혼합한 시료로 부터 쵸코랄스키 성장방법에 의해 고품질의 순수한 $PbWO_{4}$와 Nb 도핑한 $PbWO_{4}$를 성장 시켰다. 결정은 성분의 선택적 결손에 부합하는 화학양론적 변화는 $PbWO_{4}$의 노란색 형성에 원인이 되었다. X선 회절 실험을 통해서 각 $PbWO_{4}$ 결정의 격자상수 변화를 조사하였으며 광발광, 광흡수 및 라만 스펙트럼에 대한 특성들에 대해 조사를 하였다. 광발광은 10 K~300 K 온도 영역에서 측정 되었으며 낮은 온도 영역에서는 미흡한 온도의존성을 보였으며 200 K 온도 이상에서는 열적소광에 의한 광발광 강도의 감소를 보였다. PL 강도와 반치폭의 온도 의존성으로 부터 각 PWO 시료에 대한 활성화 에너지, Huang-Rhys 결합상수, 비균질선폭계수를 구하였다.

고온 안정성이 우수한 자동차 LED용 Red CaAlSiN3:Eu2+ 형광체/Glass 세라믹 복합체 개발 (Development of Red CaAlSiN3:Eu2+ Phosphor in Glass Ceramic Composite for Automobile LED with High Temperature Stability)

  • Red phosphor in glasses (PiGs) for automotive light-emitting diode (LED) applications were fabricated with 620-nm $CaAlSiN_3:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor and Pb-free silicate glass. PiGs were synthesized and mounted on high-power blue LED to make a monochromatic red LED. PiGs were simple mixtures of red phosphor and transparent glass powder. After being fabricated with uniaxial press and CIP at 300 MPa for 20 min, the green bodies were thermally treated at $550^{\circ}C$ for 30 min to produce high dense PiGs. As the phosphor content increased, the density of the sintered body decreased and PiGs containing 30% phosphor had a full sintered density. Changes in photoluminescence spectra and color coordination were studied by varying the thickness of plates that were mounted after optical polishing. As a result of the optical spectrum and color coordinates, PiG plate with $210{\mu}m$ thickness showed a color purity of 99.7%. In order to evaluate the thermal stability, the thermal quenching characteristics were measured at temperatures of $30{\sim}150^{\circ}C$. The results showed that the red PIG plates were 30% more thermally stable compared to the AlGaInP red chip.

Eu2+/Dy3+ 이온이 도핑된 Sr2MgSi2O7 분말 합성 및 발광 특성 (Synthesis and Luminescent Characterization of Eu2+/Dy3+-Doped Sr2MgSi2O7 Powders)

  • $Eu^{2+}/Dy^{3+}$-doped $Sr_2MgSi_2O_7$ powders were synthesized using a solid-state reaction method with flux ($NH_4Cl$). The broad photoluminescence (PL) excitation spectra of $Sr_2MgSi_2O_7:Eu^{2+}$ were assigned to the $4f^7-4f^65d$ transition of the $Eu^{2+}$ ions, showing strong intensities in the range of 375 to 425 nm. A single emission band was observed at 470 nm, which was the result of two overlapping subbands at 468 and 507 nm owing to Eu(I) and Eu(II) sites. The strongest emission intensity of $Sr_2MgSi_2O_7:Eu^{2+}$ was obtained at the Eu concentration of 3 mol%. This concentration quenching mechanism was attributable to dipole-dipole interaction. The $Ba^{2+}$ substitution for $Sr^{2+}$ caused a blue-shift of the emission band; this behavior was discussed by considering the differences in ionic size and covalence between $Ba^{2+}$ and $Sr^{2+}$. The effects of the Eu/Dy ratios on the phosphorescence of $Sr_2MgSi_2O_7:Eu^{2+}/Dy^{3+}$ were investigated by measuring the decay time; the longest afterglow was obtained for $0.01Eu^{2+}/0.03Dy^{3+}$.

다공성 실리콘위에 증착된 Cu 박막의 구조적 물리적 특성 (Structuyal and physical properties of thin copper films deposited on porous silicon)

  • 다공질 실리콘(PS)기판 위에 rf-스퍼터링법으로 10~40 nm의 두께의 반 투과성 구리박막을 증착하였다. PS는 p형 (100) 실리콘 웨이퍼를 기판으로 50㎃/$\textrm{cm}^2$의 전류밀도를 사용하여 전해 에칭법으로 양극 산화하여 제작하였다. PS층과 Cu박막의 미세구조를 분석하기 위하여 SEM, AFM 그리고 XRD 분석을 시행하였다. AFM 분석결과 Cu 박막의 RMS roughness 값은 약 1.47nm로 Volmer-Weber 유형의 결정립 성장을 보였으며, 결정립의 성장은 (111) 배향성을 나타냈다. PS층의 PL 스펙트럼은 blue green 영역에서 관찰되었고, Cu 박막 증착 후 0.05eV의 blue shift가 나타났으며, 약간의 강도저하를 보였다. PS/Cu접합구조의 FTIR스펙트럼은 주 피크변화는 없으나 전반적인 강도의 감소를 보였다. I-V 특성곡선으로 본 PS/Cu 접합구조는 ideality factor가 2.77이고 barrier의 높이가 0.678eV인 Schottky 유형의 다이오드 특성을 보였다. PS/Cu 접합구조로 만든 다이오드 제조로 EL특성을 관찰할 수 있었다.

에너지전달을 이용한 가시광 Light Source의 발광특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Emission Properties of Visible Light Source using Energy Transfer)

  • Red organic electroluminescent (EL) devices based on tris(8-hydroxyquinorine aluminum) (Alq$_3$) doped with red emissive materials, 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-t-butyl -6-(l,1,7,7-tetramethyljulolidyl-9-enyl)4H-pyran (DCJTB). poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT). rubrene and 4-dicyanomethylene-2-methyl-6[2-(2,3.6.7-tetrahydro-lH,5H-benzo-[i,j]quinolizin-8yl)vinyl]-4H-pyran (DCM2) were fabricated for applying to the red light source, The photoluminescence (pL) intensities of red emissive materials doped in Alq$_3$ are limited by the concentration quenching with increasing the doping ratio and the doping concentration of DCJTB, DCM2, P3HT and rubrene measured at the maximum intensity showed 5, 1, 0.5 and 2 wt%, respectively. Time-resolved PL dynamic results showed that the PL lifetime of red emissive materials doped in Alq$_3$ were increased more than the value of material itself. It means that the efficient energy transfer occurred in the mixed state and Alq$_3$ is a suitable host materials for red emissive materials, The device which was used DCJTB as a dopant achieved the best result of the maximum luminance of 594 cd/$m^2$ at 15 V and showed the chromaticity coordinates of x=0,624, y=0,371.
