  • Radiation due to accretion from an accretion disc around the intermediate polars and photoabsorption of this radiation in the accretion funnel have been taken into account as a phenomenological model to study the physics of the magnetic funnel in the magnetic compact star. The first results show that such a model scenario can be used to estimate some parameters in these systems. Some constraints of this model regarding to the observational data of one intermediate polar, EX Hya, are also discussed.

  • As part of IAEA CRP on "Compilation and evaluation of photonuclear data for applications", we evaluated photoproduction data of Mo, Zn, S and Cl isotopes for medical use and biological applications. Available experimental data were collected and their discrepancies were analyzed to select or reconstruct the representative data set. The photoabsorption cross sections were then evaluated tv applying the Giant Dipole Resonance (GDR) model for the energies below about 30 MeV and the quasi-deuteron model for energies below 140 MeV. The resulting representative photoabsorption data were given as input for the theoretical calculations for the emission process of light nuclei including neutron, proton, deuteron, triton, $^3He$, alpha particles and gamma rays by use of the Hauser-Feshbach and the preequilibrium model.

  • We present the investigation on P- and As-desorption process from the (001) InP surface in metal organic chemical vapor deposition using surface photoabsorption (SPA). The monochromatic SPA signal showed rapid initial increase to reach In-stabilized surface value after $PH_3$ was turned off, but in case of As-desorption, the signal showed clear existence of a metastable state after the $AsH_3$ was turned off. The SPA spectra at each stable surfaces were taken to confirm the interpretation. This result indicates that the As-desorption process should be understood as a two-step process, in contrast to P-desorption of one-step process.

  • Non-Lorentyian resonance is predicted to occur in two-photon photoabsorption processes due to the detuning off the intermediate levels. This type of non-Lorentzian resonance is distinct from the asymmetric resonance resulting from the effects of q uantum interference between competing indistinguishable dynamic pathways. The product distributions are shown to be constant near this type of resonance.

  • In a series of studies on the formation processes and chemical properties of humic substances from paddy soils the photoabsorption spectra of hymatomelanic and humic acids were recorded in the visible, ultraviolet and infrared regions. The spectra patterns of both fractions in the visible range were indicative of the decrease in optical density with the rise of wavelength and the UV-spectra showed the maximum peak at $235\;m{\mu}$, the minimum at $395\;m{\mu}$. The IR-spectra indicate a typical pattern showing a few sharp peaks in both fractions. The spectra of both fractions were compared and discussed.

  • $NaTa_{1-x}Fe_xO_3$ ($0{\leq}x{\leq}0.40$) nanocubes were synthesized by a relatively low temperature hydrothermal method, using $Ta_2O_5$, $FeCl_3$ and NaOH as the precursors. The UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra showed that $NaTa_{1-x}Fe_xO_3$ had significant visible-light-absorbing capability, and the absorption edge of $NaTaO_3$ shifted to longer wavelength with the increase of Fe dopants. Moreover, $NaTa_{1-x}Fe_xO_3$ exhibited room-temperature ferromagnetism when $Fe^{3+}$ occupied $Ta^{5+}$ sites in $NaTaO_3$ crystal lattice. The ferromagnetism is mainly attributed to the superexchange interactions between doped $Fe^{3+}$, rather than the contribution of oxygen vacancies caused by Fe doping. Therefore, Fe doping can simultaneously regulate the optical and magnetic properties of $NaTaO_3$ semiconductor, which will enable its potential applications in multifunctional optical-electronics and opticalspintronics devices.

  • Kim & Beuermann (1995, 1996)have developed a model for the propagation of X-rays from the accreting white dwarfthrough the infalling material and the re-emission of the energy deposited by photo-absorption in the optical (and UV) spectral range. By using this model, we calculate the profiles of the $H_{\gamma}$ emission-line spectrum of intermediate polars. Photoabsorption of X-ray by the infalling material is the dominant process in forming the observed energy-dependent rotational modulation of the X-ray flux. X-ray and optical modulations are sensitive to model parameters in different ways. In principle, these dependencies allow us to obtain improved insight into the accretion geometry of the intermediate polars. We present results of our calculations and compare them with the $H{\beta}$ line spectrum(Kim & Beuermann 1996).

  • A synchrotron light source is useful in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) regime for olecular spectroscopy, such as photo absorption, photoionization, and dissociative hotoionization. In this research, we used a double-ion chamber (DIC) to measure hotoabsorption cross sections of a NO molecule in the wavelength range from 90 to 135 nm of 3B1 beam-line of the Pohang synchrotron light source with the resolution of the onochromator being 0.06 nm. The appearance wavelength for ionization was measured to be $134.19{\pm}0.09nm$ that is placed in the middle of the reported values though they don't agree with each other within the relative error limits. The auxiliary experimental works ave been done to test if there are any systematic error sources. The resultant ross-sections agree with previous results in general.

  • Giusti-Suzor and Fano introduced translations of the scales of Lu-Fano plots by phase renormalization in order to decouple the intra- and inter-channel couplings in multichannel quantum defect theory (MQDT). Their theory was further developed by others to deal with systems involving a larger number of channels. In different directions, MQDT was reformulated into forms with a one-to-one correspondence to those in Fano's configuration mixing theory of resonance for photofragmentation processes involving one closed and many open channels. In this study, the theory was further developed to fully reveal the coupling nature, decoupling of the background and resonance scattering in physical scattering matrices as well as to further extract the dynamic parameters undiscovered by Fano and his colleagues. This theory was applied to the photoabsorption spectrum of $H_2$ observed by Herzberg's group.
