Many sentiment categorization systems based on machine learning methods use morphological analyzers in order to extract linguistic features from sentences. However, the morphological analyzers do not generally perform well in a customer review domain because online customer reviews include many spacing errors and spelling errors. These low performances of the underlying systems lead to performance decreases of the sentiment categorization systems. To resolve this problem, we propose a feature extraction method based on simple longest matching of Eojeol (a Korean spacing unit) and phoneme patterns. The two kinds of patterns are automatically constructed from a large amount of POS (part-of-speech) tagged corpus. Eojeol patterns consist of Eojeols including content words such as nouns and verbs. Phoneme patterns consist of leading consonant and vowel pairs of predicate words such as verbs and adjectives because spelling errors seldom occur in leading consonants and vowels. To evaluate the proposed method, we implemented a sentiment categorization system using a SVM (Support Vector Machine) as a machine learner. In the experiment with Korean customer reviews, the sentiment categorization system using the proposed method outperformed that using a morphological analyzer as a feature extractor.
We can extract spectrum of the voices and analyze those, after employing features of frequency that voices have. In the spectrum of the voices monophthongs are thought to be stable, but when a consonant(s) meet a vowel(s) in a syllable or a word, there is a lot of changes. This becomes the biggest obstacle to phoneme speech recognition. In this study, using Mel Cepstrum and Mel Band that count Frequency Band and auditory information, we analyze the spectrums that each and every consonant and vowel has and the changes in the voices reftects auditory features and make it a system. Finally we are going to present the basis that can segment the voices by an unit of phoneme.
General CHMM vocabulary recognition system is model observation probability for vocabulary recognition of recognition rate's low. Used as the limiting unit is applied only to some problem in the phoneme model. Also, they have a problem that does not conform to the needs of the search range to meaning of the words in the vocabulary. Performs a phoneme recognition using GMM to improve these problems. We solve the problem according to the limited search words characterized by an improved k-means algorithm. Measure the effectiveness represented by the accuracy and reproducibility as compared to conventional system performance experiments. Performance test results accuracy is 83%p, and recall is 67%p.

In this paper, speech units appropriate for recognition of Korean language have been studied. For better speech recognition, co-articulatory effects within an utterance should be considered in the selection of a recognition unit. One way to model such effects is to use larger units of speech. It has been found that diphone is a good recognition unit because it can model transitional legions explicitly. When diphone is used, stationary phoneme models may be inserted between diphones. Computer simulation for isolated word recognition was done with 7 word database spoken by seven male speakers. Best performance was obtained when transition regions between phonemes were modeled by two-state HMM's and stationary phoneme regions by one-state HMM's excluding /b/, /d/, and /g/. By merging rarely occurring diphone units, the recognition rate was increased from $93.98\%$ to $96.29\%$. In addition, a local interpolation technique was used to smooth a poorly-modeled HMM with a well-trained HMM. With this technique we could get the recognition rate of $97.22\%$ after merging some diphone units.
As the presence of background noise in acoustic signal degrades the performance of speech or acoustic event recognition, it is still challenging to extract noise-robust acoustic features from noisy signal. In this paper, we propose a combined structure of Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Network (WGAN) and MultiTask AutoEncoder (MTAE) as deep learning architecture that integrates the strength of MTAE and WGAN respectively such that it estimates not only noise but also speech features from noisy acoustic source. The proposed MTAE-WGAN structure is used to estimate speech signal and the residual noise by employing a gradient penalty and a weight initialization method for Leaky Rectified Linear Unit (LReLU) and Parametric ReLU (PReLU). The proposed MTAE-WGAN structure with the adopted gradient penalty loss function enhances the speech features and subsequently achieve substantial Phoneme Error Rate (PER) improvements over the stand-alone Deep Denoising Autoencoder (DDAE), MTAE, Redundant Convolutional Encoder-Decoder (R-CED) and Recurrent MTAE (RMTAE) models for robust speech recognition.
It was shown in speech production studies that the preparation unit of spoken word production is language particular, such as onset phonemes for English and Dutch, syllables for Mandarin Chinese, and morae for Japanese. However, there have been inconsistent results on whether the onset phoneme is a planning unit of spoken word production in Korean. In this study, two sets of experiments investigated possible influences of task demands on the phonological preparation in native Korean adults, namely, implicit priming and word naming with the form preparation paradigm. Only the word naming task, but not the implicit priming task, showed a significant onset priming effect, even though there were significant syllable priming effects in both tasks. Following the attentional theory ($O^{\prime}S{\acute{e}}aghdha$ & Frazer, 2014), these results suggest that task demands might play a role in the absence/presence of onset priming effects in Korean. Native Korean speakers could maintain their attention to the shared onset phonemes in word naming, which is not very demanding, while they have difficulties in allocating their attention to such units in a more cognitive-demanding implicit priming, even though both tasks involve accessing phonological codes. These findings demonstrate that there are cross-linguistic differences in the first selectable unit in preparation of spoken word production, but within a single language, the preparation unit might not be immutable.
Recently attempts to we the syllable as the recognition unit to enhance performance in continuous speech recognition hate been reported. However, syllables are worse in their trainability than phones and the former have a disadvantage in that contort-dependent modeling is difficult across the syllable boundary since the number of models is much larger for syllables than for phones. In this paper, we propose a method to enhance the trainability for the syllables in Korean and phoneme-context dependent syllable modeling across the syllable boundary. An experiment in which the proposed method is applied to word recognition shows average 46.23% error reduction in comparison with the common syllable modeling. The right phone dependent syllable model showed 16.7% error reduction compared with a triphone model.
The purpose of this paper is to assess the psychological status of the phoneme, syllable, and various postulated subsyllabic units in Korean by applying the Sound Similarity Judgment (SSJ) task, to compare the results with those in English, and to discuss the advantage and disadvantage of the SSJ task as a tool for linguistic research. In Experiment 1, 30 subjects listened to pairs of 56 eve words which were systematically varied from 'totally different' (e.g., pan-met) to 'identical' (e.g., pan-pan). Subjects were then asked to rate sound similarity of each pair on a 10-point scale. Not very surprisingly, there was a strong correlation between the number of phonemic segments matched and the similarity score provided by the subjects. This result was in accord with the previous results from English (e.g., Vitz & Winkler, 1973; Derwing & Nearey, 1986) and supported the assumption that the phoneme is the basic phonological unit in Korean and English. However, there were sharply contrasting results between the two languages. When the pairs shared two phonemes (e.g., pan-pat; pan-pen; pan-man), the pairs sharing the fIrst two phonemes were judged significantly more similar than the other two types of pairs. Quite to the contrary, in the comparable English experiments, the pairs sharing the last two phonemes were judged significantly more similar than the other two types of pairs. Experiment 2 was designed to conflrm the results of Experiment 1 by controlling the 'degree' of similarity between phonemes. For example, the pair pan-pam can be judged more similar than the pair pan-nan, although both pairs share the same number of phonemes. This could be interpreted either as confirming the result of Experiment 1 or as the fact that /n/ is more similar to /m/ than /p/ is to /n/ in terms of shared number of distinctive features. The results of Experiment 2 supported the former interpretation. Thus, the results of both experiments clearly showed that, although the 'number' of matched phonemes is the important predictor in judging sound similarity of monosyllabic pairs of both languages, the 'position' of the matched phonemes exerts a different influence in judging sound similarity in the two languages. This contrasting set of results may provide interesting implications for the internal structure of the syllable in the two languages.
In recent years, computing and networking technologies have been developed, and the communication equipments have become smaller and the mobility has increased. In addition, the demand for easily-operated speech recognition has increased. This paper proposes method of recognizing the Korean phoneme 'ㅏ'. A phoneme is the smallest unit of sound, and it plays a significant role in speech recognition. However, the precise recognition of the phonemes has many obstacles since it has many variations in its pronunciation. This paper proposes a simple and efficient method that can be used to recognize a Korean vowel 'ㅏ'. The proposed method is based on the common features that are extracted from the 'ㅏ' waveform sequences, and this is simpler than when using the previous complex methods. The experimental results indicate that this method has a more than 90 percent accuracy in recognizing 'ㅏ'.
In this paper, we propose a correction method using phoneme unit segmentation to solve misrecognition of Korean Texts in signboard images using weighted Disassemble Levenshtein Distance. The proposed method calculates distances of recognized texts which are segmented into phoneme units and detects the best matched texts from signboard text database. For verifying the efficiency of the proposed method, a database dictionary is built using 1.3 million words of nationwide signboard through removing duplicated words. We compared the proposed method to Levenshtein Distance and Disassemble Levenshtein Distance which are common representative text string comparison algorithms. As a result, the proposed method based on weighted Disassemble Levenshtein Distance represents an improvement in recognition rates 29.85% and 6% on average compared to that of conventional methods, respectively.
