간호학문의 현상학적 연구에서의 미학적 사유 (An Aesthetical Thinking in Phenomenological Research of Nursing Science)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to illuminate the relation between the aesthetics and qualitative nursing research, and especially to consider the aesthetical characteristics of phenomenological nursing research which may reflect works of art. Method: Based on Heidegger, Merleau-ponty and Gadamer' philosophical aesthetics, this study shows how aesthetical thought can be is applied to artistic creation and aesthetical criticism in the phenomenological research of nursing. Result: The result of aesthetical characteristics of phenomenological nursing research were as follows: 1) Poetical thought of the client's experience as the living is revealed as poetic expressions in forms of listening gazing, reflection and metaphor. 2) Literature works, paintings, poetry and fiction used as sources of lived-experience help to awaken insight into the essence of lived-experience. 3) Aesthetical evaluation of phenomenological product as art is related to the harmony as a whole, especially to the ability to do vicarious lived-experience of the client. Conclusion: In order to produce creative phenomenological works in nursing research, two suggestions are made: aesthetical thought and poetic language in phenomenological reflective writing which enables researchers to transmit the essence of the lived-experience.

질적 연구를 위한 '교육학적 현상학'의 한계와 문제 (The Limits and Problems of 'Pedagogical Phenomenology' for Qualitative Research)

  • 본 연구는 국내의 교육학 분야에서 '현상학적 방법'을 활용하여 질적연구를 수행할 경우에 나타나는 연구자들의 한계와 문제를 구체적인 사례를 통해 제시해 보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 주지하다시피 '교육학적 현상학' 은 교육학 분야에서 현상학이나 현상학적 방법을 활용하여 연구를 수행하는 것으로서, 인간의 삶과 밀접한 교육의 문제를 과학주의나 실증주의의 접근방법이 아니라 그 문제 현상(사태) 자체에서 해명을 시도해보고자 하는 것이다. 그런데 국내 질적 연구자들에 의해 순수현상학(철학적 현상학)이 이러한 응용현상학(교육학적 현상학) 분야에 활용되면서 다양한 문제들이 나타나고 있다. 그 중에서 가장 대표적인 것이 바로 질적 연구의 논리를 구성하고 있는 현상학에 대한 연구자의 충분한 이해가 부족하다든가 아니면 지오르기(A. Giorgi)나 반 매넌(M. van Manen) 등 외국학자들의 연구절차나 기법들을 무조건적으로 수용하는 문제라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 '현상학적 방법'을 활용하여 질적 연구를 수행할 경우에, 연구자는 연구논리에 대한 충분한 이해를 전제로 하여 단순히 고정된 연구절차나 방법을 사용하는 것이 아니라 연구대상자에게서 나타나는 다양한 현상들을 연구자 자신의 삶과 결부시켜 그것의 본질을 분석하고 해석하는 통찰력이 필요하다고 할 수 있다.

현상학적 관점을 반영한 학교수학의 연구방법론에 대한 고찰 (A Review of Research Methodology in Mathematics Education from Phenomenological Perspective)

  • 본 연구는 수학교육 연구를 위한 다양한 관점의 제공에 기여할 수 있는 현상학(phenomenology)을 수학교육의 연구방법론적 측면에서 고찰하고자 한다. 현상학이란 현상과 경험에 대한 연구이며, 현상학적 연구는 무엇인가를 경험한 개인한테서 그가 경험한 것의 의미를 밝히고자 하는 것이다. 이렇게 함으로써 현상학이 수학교육 연구의 한 가지 새로운 질적 연구방법론으로 어떤 가능성을 열어줄 수 있는지 탐색하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 수학교육과 질적 연구방법의 동향, 현상학의 주요 개념들, 현상학적 연구를 위한 현상학적 방법, 그리고 현상학적 연구 방법과 절차에 대해 살펴보았다. 결론으로는 현상학은 수학교육이 "체험"에 초점을 두게 하고, 수학교육에서 생활세계의 인식에 대한 중요성을 부각시키며, 그리고 수학교육의 전반적인 현상에 대한 본질과 경험의 의미를 파악 가능하게 해 준다.

Husserlian Phenomenology in Korean Nursing Research: Analysis, Problems, and Suggestions

  • Purpose: This paper is a critical review of descriptive phenomenological methodology in Korean nursing research. We propose constructive suggestions for the improvement of descriptive phenomenological methodology in light of Husserl's phenomenological approaches. Methods: Using the key words of 'phenomenology,' 'experience,' and 'nursing,' we identify and analyze 64 Korean empirical phenomenological studies (selected from 282 studies) published in 14 Korean nursing journals from 2005 to 2018. The PubMed and the Korea Citation Index were used to identify the studies. Results: Our analysis shows that all the reviewed articles used Giorgi's or Colaizzi's scientific phenomenological methodology, without critical attention to Husserl's philosophical phenomenological principles. Conclusions: The use of scientific phenomenology in nursing research, which originated in North America, has become a global phenomenon, and Korean phenomenological nursing research has faithfully followed this scholarly trend. This paper argues that greater integration of Husserlian phenomenological principles into scientific phenomenological methodology in nursing research, such as participant-centered bracketing and eidetic reduction, is needed to ensure that scientific phenomenology lives up to its promise as a research methodology.

학습자의 경영예술 창작 체험이 제품-서비스 혁신 아이디어 생성에 미치는 영향에 대한 현상학적 연구 (A Phenomenological Study Defining the Fundamentals between Artistic Stimulation and the Creation of a Product-Service Innovation Idea)

  • This study investigates cognitive and emotional changes in individuals to clarify the principle between artistic stimulation and business innovation idea generation based on phenomenological research methodology. We conducted in-depth interviews with six participants who participated in the artistic creation program of business art, and derived meanings from their experience. As a result, we presented 4 essential categories, 8 main subjects, and 20 sub-subjects; 1) Optimizing rational and creative thinking, 2) Projecting oneself to the artist, finding balance, 3) Having room in mind to view the surroundings, finding insight into the world, 4) Eureka moment, crossing the boundary between business and art. We also found out participants of the program 1) Gradually expanded the criteria, 2) In chaotic directions, and 3) Leaded business creativity through from a non-form to reality throughout the project experience, The attempt to identify business phenomena by using phenomenological qualitative research methods had an academic significance regarding the unfamiliarity of the method in the business administration area. Moreover, this study broadened the possibility of promoting creativity by art in business areas. The study verified the categories and subjects of the business art, paving the way towards application in the real business situation.

알코올중독자가 경험하는 갈망에 관한 현상학적 연구 (A Phenomenological Study on the Cravings of Alcoholics)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to reveal the phenomenological meaning and experience of alcohol craving experienced by alcoholics through qualitative research. Methods: From November 8, 2020 to October 10, 2022, in-depth interviews were conducted with four recovering alcoholics within two years of a single week who were diagnosed with alcoholism in the past and had been hospitalized for alcoholism problems. The data were analyzed using phenomenological qualitative research methods. Results: The alcohol craving experienced by alcoholics worked in connection with the life of alcoholics. Alcohol intensity was not entirely determined by external factors, but varied by the individual's internal state and circumstances surrounding the individual, and cravings were found to be classified into when control and intervention were possible. Also, the power to neutralize alcohol cravings was a warm 'self-compassion' mind. Conclusion: This study presented a new perspective on alcohol craving, and based on this perspective, the necessity of developing an alcohol addiction prevention program and a recurrence prevention program was presented. In addition, the basis for emphasizing the necessity of complete abstinence in health education services for preventing alcohol and preventing recurrence in the community was presented.

이차분석 : 질적연구를 중심으로 (Secondary Analysis: Focusing on Qualitative Research)

  • Purpose: This article explored issues arising from secondary analysis of qualitative data and analyzed the results of qualitative secondary analysis studies published in English, focusing on the methodological aspects. Method: A total of 29 studies were identified as qualitative secondary analysis studies, retrieving from the CINAHL database from 1982 to 3rd week of April 2003. These studies were analyzed by publication year, research method, and type of approach to secondary analysis. Result: The year that the qualitative secondary analysis study first published was 1992 and the number of the studies using secondary analysis has increased after the middle of 1990s. Grounded theory was the one the most frequently used(n=11, 37.9%) and phenomenological study the second most(n=6, 20.7%). In terms of types of approach, fifteen studies(51.7%) focused on the specific concepts that were not explored in the primary studies. Nine(31.0%) focused on the specific types of participants. Six were aimed to integrate contexts or perspectives to generate more general and abstract analysis of qualitative data. Conclusion: The results of this article will stimulate methodological discussion of qualitative secondary analysis and activate qualitative studies using secondary analysis.

경관분석 및 평가방법에 관한 연구 - 현상학적 접근 - (A Study on the Landscape Analysis and Evaluation Method : A Phenomenological Approach)

  • 경관평가에 있어서 현상학적 접근은 분석적이고 체계적인 기존의 과학적 방법들과 대비되는 새로운 차원의 접근방법을 보여주고 있다. 기존의 과학적 접근이 정량적, 환원주의적, 폐쇄적, 실험적인 특성을 지녔다고 한다면 현상학적 접근은 정성적, 총체적, 개방적, 체험적 특성을 지녔다고 말할 수 있다. 현상학적 접근에서는 개인의 선호도, 느낌을 경관평가의 주요 기준으로 삼고 있으나, 일정 집단의 평균적 반응보다는 개개인의 다양한 반응, 느낌, 의미 등을 더욱 중요시 여긴다. 이렇게 함으로써 현상학적 방법은 기존의 계량적 혹은 과학적 방법이 지닌 단점을 보완할 수 있는 가능성을 보여준다. 즉 계량적 혹은 과학적 방법에서는 평가대상이 되는 현상을 단순화시킴으로 해서 실제 현상그대로 보지를 못하기 쉬운데 비하여, 현상학적 접근에서는 실제 그대로의 현상을 보려고 시도하며 현상의 본질을 캐내려고 노력한다. 현상학적 접근은 총체적이며 정성적인 입장을 가짐으로해서 실용적인 경관평가 기법이 되기에는 한계가 있다고 볼 수 있으나, 이를 극복할 수 있는 효율적인 방법이 모색되어야 하겠다. 최근의 연구에서는 현상학적 개념과 신뢰성, 타당성 등의 과학적 형식기준을 동시에 만족시킬 수 있는 방법이 개발되고 있음을 볼 수 있으며 이는 매우 바람직한 일이라 할 수 있다. 경관평가에서 현상학적 접근의 대두는 기존의 체계적, 계량적 방법의 타당성(content validity)을 재점검할 수 있는 계기를 만들어 주고 있다.

중년남성의 자살시도 후 삶의 체험 (Life Experience following Suicide Attempt among Middle-aged Men)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to identify the meaning of life experience following suicide attempt among middle-aged men. Methods: A qualitative research design was adopted using van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological approach. The participants were six middle-aged men who had attempted suicide at least one time. Data were collected in 2013 through in-depth interviews. Individual interviews were recorded; and literary, art works and phenomenological literature were searched to identify the meaning of the experience. Results: The five essential themes of the life experience of middle-aged men who attempted suicide were 'Bitter reality confronted again', 'Anger buried deep inside', 'Broken family, inescapable fetters', 'Blocked relationships, closed world' and 'A step towards a new life'. Conclusion: The meaning of lived experience found in this study provides deep insight into the experience following suicide attempt in middle-aged men and crucial information to give directions to appropriate support and nursing interventions.

Qualitative Research in Healthcare: Data Analysis

  • Qualitative research methodology has been applied with increasing frequency in various fields, including in healthcare research, where quantitative research methodology has traditionally dominated, with an empirically driven approach involving statistical analysis. Drawing upon artifacts and verbal data collected from in-depth interviews or participatory observations, qualitative research examines the comprehensive experiences of research participants who have experienced salient yet unappreciated phenomena. In this study, we review 6 representative qualitative research methodologies in terms of their characteristics and analysis methods: consensual qualitative research, phenomenological research, qualitative case study, grounded theory, photovoice, and content analysis. We mainly focus on specific aspects of data analysis and the description of results, while also providing a brief overview of each methodology's philosophical background. Furthermore, since quantitative researchers have criticized qualitative research methodology for its perceived lack of validity, we examine various validation methods of qualitative research. This review article intends to assist researchers in employing an ideal qualitative research methodology and in reviewing and evaluating qualitative research with proper standards and criteria.
